Title: 19" Monza alloys
Post by: Wolf Burger on April 07, 2012, 02:12:23 pm
Been looking ages at wheels as I may have mentioned on the wheel thread.
I love the look of the standard wheels but think 19's would be so much better.

See a couple have 19 inch Monza types on here but wheres the best place to source them.

Seen this on Ebay [ebay]http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/19-NEW-VW-GOLF-MK5-GTi-HORSE-SHOE-GLOSS-BLACK-POLISHED-ALLOY-WHEELS?item=251029129507&cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D7552143544087857152[/ebay]

Any thoughts?

They look really good , the price seems TOO cheap though?

My thought exactly dmac!
At that price though would be worth being a spare set.

Anyone else have 19" Monza details?

Be careful with aftermarket alloys that are not well known for the durability. At my old work they sold a few cars with 'cheap' aftermarket alloys and they have cracked and under law had to replace them costing a few £££.

Some 19" Rims on a BMW split on the rears and all 4 22" rims on a Q7 split

Very True.  :happy2:

There are so many many cheap chinese replica alloys on eBay.co.uk  :scared:

If you want a quality set you will have to spend a bit more than £400.

These ones on eBay.de (german eBay) are more expensive but High quality Italian ones that are TuV certified and they won't buckle or crack when whisper pothole to em

I am still in search for some of these. The UK seller that I mentioned in the OP no longer does the ones a gave the link for.
(Typical if you required a replacement!!!)

The ones above you provide the link would be the ones that you had on your Sig I presume?
Did you buy them from Ebay in Germany?

Anyone have any details of a UK distributor?

Thanks for the help in the past Monte  :congrats:

My Monza's are now my winter wheels  :signLOL:

The ones on eBay.de from LS CarDesigns are the only italian made Monza's I've seen for years.
They are TuV certified and have a 2yr guarantee.

I personally wouldn't buy the £400 Chinese reps.

^^^^ been looking at these 19" for a while, can't decide on these or TD's  for my red mistress as her other set.  The red one on their for sale page has a very similar stance to yours Carlo.  :happy2:

So Monte are they actual LS CarDesign wheels that are on your car? They look good,

Would you recommend these wheels?  I'm looking for 18" Shadow style,

LS CarDesign are 8 rather the 7 1/2,  Does this make any difference? As in tires or anything like that?

Cheers

I had the Italian 19" Monzas on a previous MK5 GTI that I had.  They were on for 3 years without any problems. :happy2:

I'm pretty certain The Bruce has/had a set of these Italian reps on his car. I'm well tempted with a set of 19" Monza Shadows for my car too as I've had my BBS CKs on for a couple of years now and have got a bit bored of them! (Plus they attract just a little bit too much attention).

The 19" Monzas/Detroits are really popular in Germany

Looking at £750.00 for a set delivered then which is not too bad!
Also my cars in black magic and the wheels look like shadows with black painted inners exactly what I need!
Offset is correct at 45 for a 8 x 19 I believe.

Yeah, I was running them and they look exacly as OEM Volkswagen in every detail, just they're 19".  :happy2:

I got them from SAT-Autosport, but LS-Cardesign sell exactly the same.

There's only two things:

1. they're heavy: about 14.X kgs
2. the mounting surface is also clear coated

The weight isn't as heavy as the A6 20-spoke BBS/Speedline are (about 16 kg), but close to 11 kg
would be nice even if they would be more expensive.
The clear coated mounting surface (where it is bolted to the disc bell) needs to be sheer metallic,
but of course no issue to sand it.

19" was not an option. Postage (according to the ebay link) is €99. To organise a group buy someone would need to contact the seller on ebay or find someone else that will sell them as a large bulk (unlikely) a quick google search has told me there is no seller of 19" monzas in the uk! Remember the best price isnt allways the one to go for, theyll be cheap because theyre made cheaply, which as thats your contact with the road you dont want. Most of this has been mentioned in the thread.  :happy2:

Heres what can happen with fakes

In future I'll be avoiding reps. Nevertheless Detroit 19" should be stronger than
those crappy chinese BBS reps. They're just a bit heavy.
The Italian 19" detroits also come with a TÜV certificate which make them road
legal. Chinese reps don't.
