Just as title says, just enquiring if anyone has done this before, and how hard it was? or am I best trying to find a local proffessional to do it?
Thanks in advance for any info :happy2:

Thought about this myself so have tried and failed, twice. Bought some Black Gloss vinyl from eBay (couple of metres for about £20) and gave it a go. Vinyl needs to be wrappped around a painted surface (thats my understanding) so on my ED30 not a problem, on a standard GTi, not sure. Nearly got the front right but just not really good enough for me, 2 hours of sticking, stretching, unsticking blah blah blah and gave up after overhating the wife's hair dryer and "burning" the vinyl.
Did not even try the rear as it looks quite hard with lots of little turns, ridges etc.
Give it a go as you have nothing to lose and will no doubt be a lot better at it than i was, good luck!
Oh and today i had a professional person vinyl wrap the front splitter and rear valance. He is in Sussex :-

Chap called Marc, cracking fella! Based in Burgess Hill.
Did mine today (over the B/H weekend no less) at his home as we could not coordinate a time/day during weekdays. Emailed him my requirements and he got back to me straight away unlike Racoon Wrapping or It's A Wrap, both of whom never replied. Much rather put business the way of an independent any day!
:happy2:

well after visiting 3 local companies who all wouldnt do it for me, that last one sold me a big strip of vinyl and told me to try it myslef. After an hour trying to do the front splitter myself, I finally conceded in the fact its never going to look the way I want it!
Back on the hunt again then......

Found two places in north east if anyone interested, Radecal designs in washington, and ascension signs in sunderland. both want £120 for the job, they reckon 3-4hrs labour
-
I carbon wrapped my rear diffuser took a hour with the hair dryer just cut it big stick it on smooth air out shove it in2 corners where diffuser meets bumper then run knife round mine looks good just have a go I prob got half way and started again 4/5 times but did it in the end just have a go!! :happy2:
-
I did try with the cheap vinyl I was given, Both places said I need to use 'cast' vinyl for the shapes of the bumpers as it has higher pvc content than the cheaper stuff, maybe the 3m dinoc stuff fits the bill compared to the stuff I tried?

That's about the price I paid and it took the chap that did mine about 3 hours all told. I watched while he did iT and in my opinion it is pretty hard to do by yourself (I did try twice myself) and he used 3M gloss vinyl. You really need to use a temp gauge to make sure the vinyl reaches the correct temperature and will then take on it's new shape. :happy2:

Bought some plastidip, did it myself

That looks excellent. I'm thinking about doing my front splitter. How difficult is this plastidip malarkey?

My god that's a good finish. Is that the Plastidip stuff the Americans go on about. Saw that stuff on another thread where the chap spayed an entire Audi with the stuff. Did you paint or spray it on? Lot cheaper than vinyl wrap as well, looks v good.
:happy2:

Wow, looks really good. :happy2:
Is it possible to remove it or is it a permanent thing?

I bought 4 rattle cans, but only used 1.5.
It peels off when you get sick of it. People with 6 months use say it still looks fresh.
Simply clean surface and spray on! Use about 5 coats. Very forgiving paint stuff I must say, easiest I've ever used. Was quoted £120 for vinyl. Cost £27 for 2 tins delivered

Youve inspired me I think I might give it a go. Knowing me I'll cock it up no doubt!

Is that matt black that you used on the front splitter?
-
Its more of a satin finish, you can buy a glossifier from them if you want gloss.

To be honest, I've messed up everything I've tried to spray paint in the past, this is the first time it has looked spot on :happy2:

Where did you get the stuff from mate? Also how difficult was it to mask up The gap inbetween the splitter bit your spraying and the top part?
