very true, hmm may just keep my diesel and go from 140bhp to 300 odd in one hit, grin factor at its best, and will prob make me forget the price tag :driver:

Just need details of a MK7 GTD RS now, keep the diseasal fans happy (probably 240bhp would do it)  :happy2:

They would just need to use a tweaked version of the twin turbo engine found in the VW Transporter, that currently runs 180BHP - I have one, they are great, and really surprise a few rep mobiles on the road

.....Yes but it will never sound as glorious as a 2.5 turbo'd RS engine. Sound is very very big factor in an enthusiast's choice of car.

Saw this article in that mag the other day too at work and it looks very promising..... worded as though the GTI and R versions are definites but the RS with the 2.5L is yet to be signed off on by VW so is 50/50 if it will ever even be made  :sad1:

Just checking to see if you can sell body parts on e-bay  :signLOL: surely one kidney and lung would be enough

I was reading it today as well , I love the Mk7 GTI! I wonder how much lighter it will be compared to the 5 and 6 now thers aluminum involved in the body , and with the new MQB platform? Aparrently theres going to be a GTI Bluemotion as well?

Oh yeah forgot about the bluemotion version mentioned too  :signLOL: kind of a weird combo being a GTI but hunting for higher mpg etc?  :stupid:

Maybe its just for efficiency and help with aero stuff?

I thoght that when I read it as the Bluemotion GTI with have an aero package for economy and tyres with less rolling resistance and probably start atop technology etc, which is the exact opposite to what you want if buying that type of car

It will probably have a few bits that that new Polo Blue GT (petrol) has , stop start , brake regen , alternator decouple, maybe even cylinder deactivation etc.

217 bhp? If this is real, and it really is 300 kilo's lighter than the MK6, fair play to VW for not just chasing big bhp numbers and concentrating on power to weight ratio.

Might be a pea roast, but just been reading this months Car magazine in Morrisons and its comparing the MK7 GTI with 215hp with the new ST and VXR. It also mentions not only will there be a MK7 R with 291bhp but a MK7 RS with the 2.5l engine from the RS3 with 365bhp which is 30BHP more thn an RS3

I hope they do an 'RS' but it would be nice if VW called it something else instead of just copying Audi.  :indifferent:

How about R+, with the plus in red, or RR, or R365, to signify the power? Any other suggestions other than RS?

Its still just speculation at this point though, and IF VW even release it (normally they play it safe, and leave the big power models to Audi these days) then i dont think any of us can guess what it will be called. I would be in line to order one though should it be announced.

I don't think a bluemotion gti is all that strange, a number of people including myself have fitted the blue motion body panels to the underside of the car and as long as the stop start can be deactivated (which it will with a dsg) then I see no reason not to have those technologies on a gti with the exception of the low rolling resistance tyres, but it will all add up to lower co2 emissions so lower car tax potentially and better mpg for when you need it.

Its also a subjective view but another reason to smooth the underside of the car is speed up air flow so less lift from high air pressure and a more stable and planted car at speed (no im not suggesting down force just less lift)

My choice would be gti with 7 speed dsg the mechanical diff and blue motion, with adaptive chassis control which will hopefully be the more sophisticated version with throttle map steering and suspension control.

I don't know why so many people disagree with the stop/start technology. It's hardly intrusive, you either use it or you don't.
Title: Re: MK7 GTI and MK7 Golf RS
Post by: Richn83 on April 11, 2012, 09:17:50 pm
I've not used it but i don't like the idea I think everything else is great tech, better aero smarter charging disconnecting alternator more efficient engines and 7 spd for over drive gear for motorway.  My understanding of the stop start you have to manually deactivate it every time before you start, what I would rather is switch it on when in very heavy traffic not normal day to day driving, its not much of a worry as i would only have a dsg which I don't think it can support yet.
Title: Re: MK7 GTI and MK7 Golf RS
Post by: andrewparker on April 11, 2012, 09:51:02 pm
It only works when you come to a complete halt and take the car out of gear. I never do that, even in heavy traffic I'll sit with the clutch in, with the car in first gear.
Title: Re: MK7 GTI and MK7 Golf RS
Post by: stealthwolf on April 11, 2012, 10:03:11 pm
Won't that just knacker the clutch?

By the way, I'm not suggesting I sit at traffic lights with the clutch depressed, just that in stop/start traffic I don't continually put the car in and out of gear.
