Title: Engine belt rubbing on air con pipe
Post by: Weston on April 12, 2012, 08:29:02 pm
Driving back from work I heard a loud bang & a rattle so pulled over to check what it was. Nothing obvious. I set off again noticing the vibration from the engine when under load felt different and stronger.

I took the car straight to the mechanic I use. Upon inspection there's an air con pipe touching the belt that's on the left of the engine (looking from front) So its off the road for now, but I don't understand what could've happened? Either the engine moved, mounts were fitted a couple of months back, or the pipe moved.

Has anyone experienced this or got any ideas as to what may be going on?

Cheers Phil I thought it would be, especially as they're a recent addition. The engine seems solidly in place though

Is your dog bone mount ok as it's been known to break causing the engine to move forward.

It'll be checked tomorrow, could well have broken but I hope not  :sad1:

Turns out a bracket holding the air con pipe work failed allowing one of the pipes to move towards the belt. So now I just need to work out which piece of pipe needs replacing before the warm weather comes
