Title: Cam Belt on BYD Engine

Just checking in with the experts on here just had a quote for a cam belt and water pump and tensioner for a BYD engine 3.5hrs plus parts £618.45  Major service £259 plus mot £54.85 total off £932.30 minus 10%  a grand total off £839.07

The good news is the DSG service isn't required because when they replaced the Mechatronics unit 18 months ago they replaced the oil and filter so the service Manager quoted not until 2014   :jump move:

I forgot to ask about new engine mounting bolts or would they just do it with the Cam belt kit .TIA

£What? For a timing belt and tensioner??

I was quoted £380 for timing belt, tensioner, water pump, coolant and labour from my local VW specialist!

Western VW wanted £419

Four hours labour is about right but i got my cambelt kit and water pump over the counter for £128.50.

My engine is the AXX one right enough

I got the fixed price servicing menu up and thought wtf ,but the service guy was  adamant the price for the ED30 BYD engine was different ,I don't get how the Cam belt kit and water pump could be 50% more than on the Service price list ,I called VW Customer service and they was just about useless ..


I would like it done at the VW Main dealer but don't want to be a victim off the greedy stealer happy to pay the right money just want someone to confirm what they said ,


I see major service and MOT was £299  , he quoted £259.00 plus £54.85= £313.85 minus 10%  is £282.47  so that seams about right , Also he could have tried it on and had me have the oil and filter changed on the DSG gearbox but he went through the repair invoice and said it was done then so would not be required until 2014 or 53k miles .

You should be able to get a cam belt and water pump  change for about 300-350. 600 quid is a joke.

This has been bugging me a little so called VW Caffyns and asked for a explanation on pricing ,It  seams they haven't signed up to the fixed price deal from VW UK . They are considered a smaller outlet with only 4 VW garages so are free to charge what ever they seam fit .

Work on the fixed price menu is £733. VW  Caffyns price is £932.30  but a good will gesture of 10% off it comes out @£839.07 ,I thought this was ok  but then second thoughts are why  would I accept this so I will ask them to price match VW Fixed price menu. or find a VW dealer who signed up to the offer.

I'm sure I paid around £600 all in for cambelt and service.
