I recently bought a 07 GT 170 and I am thinking about the dpf removal. I have a couple of questions which I'm hoping you guys can shed some light on.
I'm thinking of removing the insides of the dpf and having a software map to delete all the dpf data, as this is cheaper than having a Milltek fitted. Is this fine to do? This wouldn't cause any problems to my car would it?
I'm thinking of going to fr&r tuning in Bradford, anybody have any experience with them? Any other tuners I should consider?
Thanks.

where are you based?

think matto has just had this done on his golf with good results,
i am looking to have this done to mine soon with the above as only down the road from telford.

Huddersfield!

Knocking internals out of dpf is cheapest way of dpf removal as the main part of the cost is labour (no parts req)

I little info on the 170DPF delete and mapping

DPF removal with full DPF delete (not patch) with a full custom remap session = £550 all inc. You should end up with 200-210bhp 300-320lbft and a huge grin.

Newbie question what's a DPF?
And could this be done to my 140tdi golf?
Thanks
-
A Dpf is a diesel partical filter and it's fitted as standard on the 170 tdi's but was an optional extra on the 140bhp tdi's so 99% of 140's won't have it,
So one less thing to worry about

I have indeed. Had DPF delete (just internals removed) and EGR delete also with no issues.

Iv also been having thoughts about doing this, but my only concern is smoke. How much will it smoke?
I hady MK4 pd130 mapped to 180 and it smoked like a bitch which really got to me.
Cheers

Black smoke is unburned fuel (too much being injected against the amount of air) . A quality custom map should smoke very little (or not at all) :happy2: (R-Tech Nick will do you a proper map :notworthy:)

Mines a Shark map with DPF removed and it does smoke a fair bit but only when you give it some toe. Normal driving and cruising speeds its pretty clean. I was shocked at the amount when I first saw it on the dyno but have learnt to live with it. Passes MOT no problems.

Iv always seen diesel smoke as normal, which is why we have these DPF's.
R-Tech did do my MK4 and i was very pleased with it. Im up that way at the end of the month again so might fly in for a chat.
ANther question is MPG, with my previous car it was improved a lot, will i also see this on the new car?
I average around 45mpg to the tank at the mo....
cheers

I thought that petrol cars mapped should smoke a bit when given 'the beans' as they generally run rich to protect the engine?

My petrol GTI chucks a small amount out as it's mapped to run a lil rich at WOT to protect the components.
Lots of generic diesel maps smoke as they aren't custom to the car, also diesel engines aren't as fussy about air /fuel ratio like petrol cars are so diesel maps are generally mapped a bit rich as protection for the engine (without affecting power)
