Title: Adding factory options
Post by: Baz300 on April 14, 2012, 05:34:37 pm
Hi

I am on the look out for a mk5 gti. (reason for joining this site)
But I am struggling to find one with the spec I want with low enough miles.
Are the following options expensive to retro fit?

Cruise control
Xeon headlights
iPod cable
DVD/sat nav with highline dash

And do any of them require vw to activate?

And also I beleive the cambelt should be done at 60k OR 4 years, but I have asked a few sellers including garages and they say it doesn't matter about the length of time as long as its done at the mileage.

Am I best not to go back to the ones that haven't replaced the belt even though the cars are up to 7 years old?

I would say about 14-1500 for all that lot before fitting, but you need someone to code it all. Eddie nl on here knows his stuff or Steve p

Cruise control - £100 retro fitted

Xeon headlights - no idea.

iPod cable - cheap as chips if you run it through the glove box our you can get the MDI unit for under the armrest kit for £100 and fitted for free or max charge should be around £50.00

DVD/sat nav - RNS can be grabbed for £400 and upwards pendent on version.

Highline dash - cluster for about £120 with some sourcing and then you need to code it to your car.

Thanks

I think I might have to do a bit of traveling to get the right car as there is not a lot up here in Aberdeenshire with the right spec. basic ones are well overpriced compared to further south, most private sales are asking more than the dealers.

I could probably handle the cruise control and iPod cable.

If I found one with the sat nav etc would the iPod cable work and charge an iPhone?

it would depend on the navi unit mate, for the OEM nav unit RNS510 you would need an ipod lead conbatiple for the unit, such as kufatec.

Zenons (if fitted properly) will cost a lot, complete pair of lights inc bulbs go for about £450/£500, then you will need the plug adaptors £38 then you will need level sensors (i paid £60 for the sensors and a CCM) then you can either make your own looms for the sensors (say £15) or buy a kufatec loom £80 then you will need the height control module £40ish on ebay, and then last of all headlight washer system

Prob about £800 to fit them so they will pass an MOT, the MOT laws changed on 1 april, if you have xenon headlights you must have level senors and headlight washers fitted
