My car is due its fourth service, but I've been care of some items such as spark plugs and coil packs,etc outside of the usual schedule. So i am considering having my local vw independent completing the oil and filter change and fuel filter replaced, but am wondering if keeping the service book updated with vw stamps would be worth it in the long run. What do you guys reckon?

Personally as long as a car has fsh I don't mind too much

Depends how long you plan to keep the car as I assume for resale reasons.
I saw an edition 30 with 70k go for £8200 on friday if that helps an indication of the current market.

All that a VW stamp tells you is that your car has been serviced by a load of incompetents for a lot of money. In my experience.

I personally agree with you but using an.Indie does rely on any prospective buyer knowing of them. But i do intend on keeping the car for a couple more years yet

I've always kept a full history of any parts I buy for my cars. Parts for servicing once out of warranty on those that didn't need the clock spanner removing I did myself, noting the mileage but anything that needs a VAGCom type device I've taken to an indie. Although I'm starting to find that they can be more expensive than going to the dealers.

I personally have found the local dealer more than accomadating and happy to price match anything local, even independants.
Also then get a courtesy car and foun dit easier to go back to with any further issues later on.

i think a full main dealer service history is important because:
1. chances are when you come to sell you won't be selling to an enthusiast, and a full MD history looks better to them
2. with fixed price servicing it doesn't cost that much more compared to the added value when considering point 1
3. if you have an out-of-warranty fault claim VW will only consider it if you have a full main dealer service history
(4. not all dealers are bad and going to the same dealer every time will mean they are nice to you later when you buy a car, want something doing they might do for free etc.)
for the record i don't work for a dealer, and if it wasn't for the above i'd love to save a few quid and go to a specialist but hey-ho

I'm in the same predicament as mine has had long life FVWSH, wanted for nothing, and I don't want to be the owner that 'runs it on the cheap!' Going to switch to time distance for 1st service with me in the summer just trying to decide whether to go to Volkscraft where I live or local dealer Mann Egerton. :scared:
Incidentally is there a thread listing 'good' dealers and 'bad' as they seem to vary quite a bit?
