Guys,
Having thought that I had fixed one side now the other side is playing up and after the downpour this morning it seems both sides are on the blink.
I noticed on the drive home tonight that the Passat and the Golf Plus :ashamed:both have this style of lights. Is it a common fault?
I know Weston has had this issue but does anyone know a "fix"?
Cheers
:happy2:

.
I've driven through some extremely heavy downpours and even a flood but never had this problem.

Thanks for that Robin but I'm not sure it helps

....Yep but I was responding to your thread title: "Have yours failed?"
I'm sure I'm not the only one with Valeo tails who will be interested to know how common this is or isn't and how you solve the problem.

I'm just jealous that you seem to have had them longer than anyone and yours haven't missed a beat! :P

I've had some contact cleaner arrive today, gonna try that later or tomorrow. I'll let you know how I get on. Are your faulty ones the same each time? Is the fault intermittent?

it sounds like moisture is gettin in somewhere to me lads
where are you based ??

Yeah Weston they are the same LEDs but now I've got it on the other side. It's an intermittent fault but damn annoying.
I think lukejenkins on here also has the fault.
One explaination is that it's a dry solder joint....or my theory that water is running down the boot hatch onto the sponge gasket that is part of the light cluster..

Well I have decided to sell mine on and look to get a new set but them lasting only 18months is no good for me. So I have been doing some research on the net and it appears the flashing start up sequence is bad for the LEDs and should be switched off via vcds. Can anyone verify if this is complete rubbish or valid info?
It's apparently linked to the time the LEDs are lit when they flash on start up????

I've heard the startup flashing sequence isn't good for them so that could be an issue

I've added a video (above) that shows the issue. It is a bit misleading as only two LED's are out here. The angle makes it look like the bottom half is out which it is not.
Sorry to link to another forum but the issue is obviously widespread

I need to see if I can find a solution to this before I splash out for another set

Hmm interesting that over-tightening was mentioned, compromising the seal. That's another possibility I guess

I have had mine for 3 years and they were fitted by previous owner and no problems here.

I've had mine for 3 years as well - no problems so far.. touch wood!

noticed today that I have 3x LEDs out on the passenger side indicator ring.
Not sure how long this has been or could have been there sometime
