Title: Last minute advice....
Post by: Boothy on May 13, 2009, 06:17:37 pm
Right. Finally bought myself a luuuurvley red GTi which I'm collecting tomorrow. I'm about to purchase some rims over the net but thought I'd check they'll fit before I part with my hard earned cash.

They are:
18x8.0"
PCD/Offset: 5x112 ET45

Can anyone give me the benefit of there experience and let me know. Also whats the ET45 bit?

Cheers guys.

Yes they will fit perfect  :happy2: The ET is the offset of the face of the wheel from the centre of the wheel. In our case the lower that number the further the wheels will protrude.  :happy2:

I fancied 19's but it'll look stupid if I don't lower it (which I can't afford) and then theres buying tires the next time around. Boo hoo.

Gonna go for a TSW Croft in gunmetal with a polished face...........i think! I'm very indecisive.

Are you getting the 'performance  tyres' or upgrading?

Going for the Falken 452's. They seem to be well respected as a tire by some of the members on here and a few other review sites. Plus they don't break the bank.

Then I need to find somewhere local that can refurbish the original 18" Monzas to the way they should be. Seems to be plenty of places that will powder coat/spray them but not many who can do them to the original style with polished face.

unlucky mate, i liked the look of those!

how much does your budget stretch to? is your car on 17" or 18" as standard?

maybe you could get a cheaper wheel and then spank it withe the lowering stick with the cash left over?

Wanna stick with the 18" rims I think. The cars currently on 18" Monza's which need a bit of a refurb. I really like the Monza's but wanted to make the car more individual with some new rims. The last car I bought wheels for I skimped on the price and bought a make I had never heard of before. Within a year they were all bent and one had even cracked! This time round I want a well known, established make. As for budget I can go to 1k for rims and tires but the more I save on them the more I'll have for the other bits.

Going in a week on Sat for the REVO stage 1 too!

Has anyone heard of a company called 'MAM' or has anyone had experience with them? Not a manufacturer I'm familiar with I want to know if they are any good?

i've had 2 sets of MAM rims, very good rep, very well made. in fact i still have a set of MAM porsche turbo twist replicas in the shed

and i was seconds away from ordering the nuvo 7's for mine a few weeks back, with the black face they are LUSH.....

but.. i think i'm right in saying you'll be waiting about 6 weeks for a set
