Title: 312mm disk and pad recommendations
Post by: Trekmeister on April 20, 2012, 05:23:22 pm
Slightly different post; can anyone recommend where to buy 312mm GTI disks and pads (excluding main dealer) and what make of pads to go for.

Thanks

Just in the process of upgrading my TDI (288mm) to 312mm. From what i have read the VW Std discs and pads (ATE iirc) are a really good option unless you want something more i.e grooved / drilled.
Have a look at Euro Car Parts they always have deals on and many forum members can use a discount code  :happy2:

Personally I would look at Eurocarparts for pagid discs/pads, they were doing 25% a few weeks ago.

Sadly the Pagid discs and pads from ECP now seem to be cheap generic Chinese sourced ones, ECP own the brand rights to the Pagid name in the UK and have whored it out on everything from air fresheners to screenwash..
I had a set of pagids from ECP and they were noticeably worse for fade and wear than the previous oem discs, chungster on here had the same problem with a set on his rocco r, I wouldn't buy them again tbh..

TPS have oem discs on special offer till the end of June and I only paid £109 +vat for a set of 345s, proudly made in Germany too  :happy2:

Been saying this about pagids ages ago. No one believed that mine started to spark after over heating on a drive that wasn't overly spirited. OEM do the job fine imo

Does anyone have any views on Bosch dics and pads?

They`re available from places like ECP and Andrew Page and seem resonably priced but as for quality / usability I`m not too sure.

Also interested in opinions, I usually use Mintex as I just use my car for normal road use.

^^ Mintex are made by the same people that make Pagid.

I bought pagid from ECP and am 100% sure they are from the 'genuine' pagid source.  They behave just like the OEM discs and pads with no issues so perhaps its a bit of a lottery what you get from ECP.  There are a few different price options, maybe the cheaper ones are the generic copies?

Read about the shade of the blue box denoting old or new Pagid.

Never had any issue with Mintex so unless they've recently changed for the worse I guess I'll keep using them?

Last time i changed my pads i paid extra for mintex. and found them to be the worst brake pads i had ever had on my leon. constant fade even after very little hard braking and terrible initial bite.

I can highly recommend the OEM Brembo set up that I have just bought for my Ed30 from 'Next Day Brakes'.  I think the bill came to about £220 for discs and pads all round and I paid a friend £60 for fitting  :happy2:

I can't compare against many other set ups like other guys on here (I have only has the car three months) but I certainly cannot complain for the price.....

Interesting comments regarding ECP's, personally I have their pagid pads and find them absolutely fine.
