What a fecking useless piece of crap. :fighting:
Unless a program is on at the same time, same day every week then it doesn't set a recording.
Case in point - I always record all the F1 Practices, Qualifying and Races in case I have to miss them live for some reason. However despite me setting a series link it never sets them to record unless they have, by chance, fallen to the same time as the previous week.
I used to think this was due to the BBC and ignored it, making sure i always checked it was set with the Sky Remote App. But now it's doing it with the Sky F1 channel it's obviously the software.
Surely it can't be that hard to sort out  But the lady in New Delhi that I spoke to earlier said there was nothing that could be done.
Murdoch you're a cnut :fighting:
No doubt someone is going to point out I'm being a Mong now and tell me to alter something in the settings
-
Ummmm... It's working fine for me and everyone else I know who's series linked the F1 on SKY ...
You sure you've not done something daft?!
-
Do you have any other things recording at the same time ? What's the status saying ? Possible program clash.
-
Works on my Vermin Media Tivo box. :happy2:
-
Nope no recording clashes.
I highlight, for example, the race, presse record, get the option box pop up saying "record once" or "record series" so I select record series.
Then I check in the planner and it's listed with the green arrow next to it for the series link.
When it then comes to the next race I have to do the same process all over again. :fighting:
-
http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/tv/sky-plus/recording/guide-to-performing-a-planner-rebuild/
if you google the issue, your not the only one. The above link has fixed for a few people last year.
-
Ta. I'll try that later :happy2:
-
Are you deleting the recording before the programme starts? For example, if you know you will be watching it? This will then asse that you no longer want the series linking.
-
No I only delete it once it's finished
-
I've noticed this on occasion - found a program moved or a special/extra show and it doesnt record it. Oh and before it hasnt because the name of the show changed even though part of the series.
Is annoying.

Carl I did post a while ago about not setting up series link on remote record as sky are sorting the issue out. record it via your planner and not be lazy using your mobile :signLOL:
untill sky have sorted the bug in the EPG, then if you do as I said, then you won't have any issues for the time being.
-
I'm not using Remote Record
This happens doing it through the planner
To make it clear:
I press TV Guide
Select program in the planner I want to record
Press record button on Sky Remote Control
Select series link in the pop up that appears
Press select
Press Sky button
Press play button
Scroll through planner to find program I have just set
Check it has green arrow next to it.
Works fine for the first set of Practice/Quali/Race
Next race I have to manually set it all again unless they happen to fall on the same times.

can you record two program's at the same time Carl? what Is the model number in the details page bud?
-
Yup I can record 2 progs at same time.
Hang on I'm having a dump. I'll look in a minute for model details.

How long have had that box Carl??
-
Since March 2010 when I first got Sky HD
Why is it fooked?
-
Was gonna say that's about 2 years old from the version number. I'm guessing you've done the pull the plug reset? And this keeps happening?
what manufacturer is your Tv? We are having some issues with failed recordings with certain tv's currently..
pm if you prefer. :happy2:
-
Why would the TV affect the Sky Box Steve?
-
TV is a Sony KDL-40NX803U
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/tv-102-40-lcd/kdl-40nx803
But as Ian says i can't see how that would affect the recording
I've done the reset, Rebuild, Housekeeping (the one that wipes everything), Forced upgrade using Power and Backup button and it still happens.
-
Will it blend?
-
Probably  but it may meet my friend Mr PE7 if it carries on :fighting:
-
Orsum. Video it if it does.
-
Why would the TV affect the Sky Box Steve?
There are 3 tv makes/ models currently that if left on standby, it's causing failed recordings currently on our platform Ian.
currently being investigated by the tech heads, and the temporary fix is that if the customer isn't using the tv, to disconnect the 240volt supply rather then on standby.
Sony is not one of them affected.
sounds like your box is fecked Carl.. Your 1st version 890 box has been superseded since with a lot of improvements shall we say .

Any chance of a new 1TB box falling off the back of your van outside my house :innocent:
-
Lol.. I'd be a very rich man Carl if I could mate. :sad1:
2tb is out ;-)

Surely that would damage it.

2tb is out ;-)
Really? Where?
I've spoken to Sky about upgrading to a 1TB box this morning and they want £149 for the box and £15 to allow me to fit it myself, I'm only swapping 4 cables over :fighting:
I think i will be switching to Vermin Media when i move (if there is Fibre Optic) as i can get everything i get now (120mb BB, Unlimited anytime calls,) plus a 1TB TIVO Box, all the same channels with all the Sky Sports channels extra for £2 less a month  The only channel i will miss out on is Sky Atlantic.
I pointed all this out to them including that since i've had Sky+ HD they have had over £1500 off me and all they offered me was a new normal Sky+ HD box for £49 and half price engineer installation.
I stand by my original point - Murdoch is a Cnut :fighting:

Fair do's mate. But Murdoch has nowt to do with the cost of a hd box.We don't Rent boxes like Virgin do. These cost sky £187 each to make and supply,so subs are there to part cover costs. We cannot hand over free boxes left right and centre, or things like Sky sports F1 hd wouldnt exist ... We are a successful business , not a charity.
-
I don't expect to get an upgrade for free. But as an existing customer i would expect to have some discount for loyalty. If i was to cancel i would be able to take out my existing package, pay £149 for the 1TB box AND get £25 worth of M&S Vouchers as a new customer.
It seems "your successful business" is more interested in getting new customers than rewarding existing customers for loyalty.
I also find it hard to believe it costs sky £187 per box. It doesn't cost that to make an iPhone which is far more complex. If it does cost Sky that they need to have a word with there suppliers. It's not as if the 1TB drives in them are SSD or anything fancy.

how big is an iPhone compared with a Sky HD box :signLOL:
Most of the parts required to build these boxes are shipped from china, Bulgaria, and Mexico of all places, so costs soon mount up. Unfortunately, cost of this technology has to be Subsidised in some way, so if to join sky, you had to pay cost price to join, then our 10.5 million customers wouldn't be here.
just a suggestion Carl, as your very good with words, can I suggest you call cxlations department, say you wish to cxl your subs, and see if they try and jump through hoops to keep you. if they don't, go on to virgin as they are so much better as everyone keeps saying.

That's my point about the iPhone. It is far more technically advanced and has to be made smaller than any component in a Sky Box. You surely realise that to make something as powerful as an iPhone that small, it costs more. So i fail to see how Sky are paying £187 per box. To be honest whoever has told you that i think is either telling you porkies or Sky suffer the same problem the MOD do in their procurement. i.e Muppets run it.
I have spoken to Cancellations and they aren't interested. Which leads me to believe they would rather have a new customer sign up than keep and existing customer.
Steve i have no idea why you appear to be taking this so personally  It's not as if you own Sky and it's going to affect your pay/life if i'm not happy or think something is better.

Also the 1TB boxes are made by Amstrad aren't they?

Also the 1TB boxes are made by Amstrad aren't they?
All amstrad boxes are now Sky's own brand called Picotronic.
trust me Carl, I'm not taking this personally, but I spose because I've been apart of sky's upward success in the past 14 years I've worked for them, when someone comes on a public forum and starts calling us a bunch of c&nts, does gets the heckles up, but you don't know the full story as I know a lot that goes on within Supply chain, but seriously, if sky aren't interested as you say they are not, then it sounds your better off leaving.
Skys current drive is to reduce churn rates, so for them to say they are not interested in the slightest, is very surprising. Each customer when they join sky gets a FREE box, whether they joined 12 years ago or just know, you get whatever is current at the time if you join, if you want an upgrade will always come at a small cost.

I called Murdoch a Cnut not Sky engineers :P
I said I'm happy to pay an upgrade. But I would have expected to pay less than a new customer who pays £149 for the box and gets £25 of M&S vouchers.
I get told I can have a box for £149 pay £60 for an engineer to fit it or pay £15 for sky to allow me to fit it myself. As said its a case of swapping 4 cables from the existing box to the new box. I'm not refitting a whole system.

For the £60 install, you should have new ct63 cables installed and brand new dish. remove your old stuff and don't let the engineer use your old gear, as I expect your dish s older then 2 years. dish condition and cables are cruicial to a reliable setup.

I think I'll wait till I move and tackle it again.

Don't forget that with Virgin you won't get all the sports channels in HD either including F1 as Sky won't let them have it :fighting:

Looks fine on my telly in SD and when it's live on BBC I can see HD then should I so require. :happy2:
-
Only 36 hd channels? That's 22 less then sky... Oh from 45 a month... Basic pack... So after 6 months, you then start paying the same rate for less choice then Sky?
-
Some of those HD channels on sky are things like Sky Arts HD :indifferent: Not exactly going to miss those
As said I will pay £2 less per month and have
Same channels I currently have less Sky Atlantic and Sky F1HD in fact I'll have more as I currently don't have Sky Sports.
Faster BB
1TB Box
Record 3 Progs or various combo's of watching and recording
Unlimited Anytime calls to landlines
Not trying to cause a pissing contest Steve. I understand your loyalty to Murdoch. But at the end of the day it's a job. Whenever you leave Sky they ain't gonna care about you anymore and you will be replaced by another engineer. Your going on as if I'm slagging off your company.
Both Vermin and Sky have plus and negative points.

sorry Carl, it's only because I do this for a living, and my work mind comes into play
I'm not Going on, just think for £2 less, you not getting as good VFM. but ETTO, but yes if it was my company, you'd been gone long ago :signLOL:
Oh and hope you don't get this soon after install.... :innocent:

Unfortunately many companies, from Banks, Building Societies and Insurance companies to Mobile and home phone networks, Gyms and many others seem to have better deals for new customers compared to existing customers.
Whilst it is an annoying fact of life, it is no different to seeing something in the sales the day after you have bought one. :angry015:
However, I think that in the after sales department Sky can't be faulted. :notworthy:
A month back I had a problem with my Sky HD box which couldn't be sorted with any of the various re-set options. I was wary of buying a box from Ebay, so I called Sky who gave me the option of buying a new box or having an engineer call for £60 with the promise that whatever was neccessary would be done, including a replacement box if one was required.
I pointed out that I had been a Sky customer for well over 20 years and that whilst I was aware the box was well out of warranty, I felt that they could be a bit more generous than that! Without too much trouble they got that charge down to £20, which I would have been happy with, although in the end they charged me zilch as the system wouldn't let her input £20, so bargain. (She also looked into the situation with Sky Anytime Plus on BT Broadband who have just put fibre optic into my road and then rung me back to say that she had heard a whisper that Sky would be able to offer me fibre within a couple of weeks which I have now had installed. :happy2:)
I was lucky enough to have SaintSteve as the engineer who called as I am in Southampton, so we talked about cars while he was changing the box. All is now perfect, I'm a happy customer and would recommend Sky to anyone. I've never dealt with Virgin, so can't comment on how this would have been handled, but I can't see how they could have done any better.
Sky gets my vote.
