I know this is an old question for the Mk5's, but I am looking to improve the braking of my Ed30 without braking the bank [no pun intended]. I know the S3 / R32 option is popular, but would typically mean ~350ish for the calipers and another ~250 for the pads, discs and hoses.
I was thinking of keeping the OEM calipers and getting some DS2500 pads, HEL braided hoses and either new OEM discs or something slightly better. By my reckoning this set will come to ~250. I would probably look to improve the oil as well.
Does anyone have any experience of the 2nd option??

I would consider the S3/R32 setup, you will get a good quality set with plenty of meat on both discs and pads for 350 or less, just keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground!! I have S3 fronts and the braking is soooo much better than the OEM 312mm setup, it did feel a bit snatchy initially, but I have just had new discs and pads fitted on the rear and the braking is far more balanced.
Edit: These - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-r32-mk5-brake-calipers-345mm-front-s3-tt-audi-a3-3-2-v6-/330722944449?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4d009fa5c1#ht_500wt_1156 - are the unpainted type found on the A3 3.2 Quattro and some A6's, identical to S3/R32/Cupra just unpainted, which imo is better as it makes it far easier and cheaper to DIY refurb. :happy2:
