Title: Is this real?
Post by: exodus_ste on April 23, 2012, 10:10:44 am
Hi guys! Officially my first post on here. I'll do a proper introduction when ive got the car im after, which is what this post is to do with. Im looking for an Edition 30 in any colour but silver, with DSG. I saw this example on pistonheads, but couldnt quite understand the price? Either they've missed a '1' off the price or its ridiculously cheap! Could it be real??

Steve

I would suggest that its a scam....report it to pistonheads
Even if it was a Cat C/D it would be more than that. I would suggest they have grabbed photos from an old advert
Contact the seller and state you will come and get it today and you have the cash as you have just sold your old car. watch them squirm their way out of it to get you to pay be bank transfer or another way of paying remotely

+1

That is way to low! Its either a typo on the price or a scam.

Yeah thats what i thought. Usually when something seems too good to be true, its because its BS. There is a notice on Pistonheads stating this:

"Current Fraud Warnings

Please be aware that our site is currently being targeted by criminals attempting to scam unwary buyers.

PISTONHEADS PURCHASE PROTECTION SCAM
We are aware of a large number of emails being sent apparently from buyersprotection@pistonheads.com

These are fake emails and should be deleted.

If you have responded to any of these emails then please contact us immediately.

Fake Escrow Scams
Scammers are posting adverts with extremely low prices and when emailed they claim that they need a quick sale and that the vehicle is not available for viewing.

They have also recently started using the PistonHeads name and logos to give their advert more credibility.

PistonHeads does not operate an approved seller scheme or a purchase protection program. We also do not offer any payment system through the site - all deals must be done directly with the seller.

We strongly recommend against using Money-Gram, Western Union or any other form of wire transfer as this is an extremely unsafe method of sending money to people you do not know.

For more information
Please see our Fraud Warnings page or the Vehicle Safe Trading Advisory Group - VSTAG.co.uk"

Seems it may be a common problem. Hope nobody on here gets caught out by it! Oh well, off to traul the forsale section

There are loads of scams like this, we found one when looking for a Fiat 500 for my mrs. As soon as i asked them why it was so cheap i didn't get any more replies.

As is always stated........if it's too good to be true.........
Once saw a scam car on eBay (a Ferrari 355 no less) with no contact details and the usual low Buy It Now price and the seller stating "DO NOT PAY VIA PAYPAL, ONLY VIA MONEY TRANSFER :stupid:
