Title: Mk4 r32 talk to me !
Post by: gobbleplease on April 23, 2012, 10:22:27 pm
Anyways i got a phone from ford asking if they could purchase my rs back of me, i said no then they gave me a price and got my attention !!! Anyways i totally love my rs but i considdered the fact i would beable to be debt free ( first since i was 17 !)
And buy a good mk4 r32 with about 3k for mods and a wee drop cash for a rainy day - this is really apealing to me at the moment as my outgoings are pi55ing me off at the moment !

I realise the r32 isnt the quickest but they do sound awesome ! I was just wondering if anyone had any ownership experiances they care to share ? Or buying advice ? Things to look out for ?

Sounds like you've made your mind up to me.

It is nice to have a belter of a car but think how much more you could do with the spare cash. Just think of the BMW Z4 vs R32 video  :driver:

Great cars but all feel really dated compared with your last two cars.

Yea not sure yet tbh, the mrs is badgering me in to doing it, but cars are sort of my thing, im daft on them and love the rs so im bit hot and cold, one minute i think awe man debt free that would be sweet, the next im thinking id miss the rs too much !
Proper stuck at the moment !
Mods wise it would be coilovers, arbs, haldex controler, castor kit, bushes, miltek, intake, map and porker brakes so about 4k no more ! A good thing is there is no where to go with it really as its normally aspirated so my thinking was it would save me a few pennies !

:happy2:

Cheers buddy tbh it was really the only thing i could think of that id want for 7-8k, id never thought about selling the rs until ford started putting ideas in my head.
Did you ever have the st on the ramps nathan ? What did the underside look like rust wise ?
Thats mine got 3.5k on it now and i had it getting the geometry done last week and when i seen rust on the underside already i was shocked !!! Dont get me wrong there was only a couple spots on the beam and arms etc, but on a car thats only seen 1 winter i was a little shocked and disapointed.
I suppose thats what i get for buying a ford though !
Likin the pirelli mate  :happy2:

Cheers chap!  :happy2:

Yeh I had a good poke around when the TB exhaust was fitted and it all seemed pretty good to me bearing in mind it was 6 years old. If it were me I'd have another ST in a flash! For that kind of money they are superb, and you'll be used to the average fuel consumption!!
To be honest the Pirelli feels really muted compared. Do have a massive soft spot for my old ST!

Owned one for a year from new.  The ride is really hard, 1st gear gets you about a yard before you need to change again and I personally wouldn't have another.  The soundtrack however.....

Get a mk1 focus RS instead of a mk2 R32

I wouldnt have one. Get something great 'out of the box' rather than throwing dead money at an average car.

I'd keep that RS, it's depreciation proof motoring at the moment. Oh, and a stunningly great car.

I do love the Mk4 R32 - Always think there's something special about them but then I've heard VW mechanics moaning about them, and saying the 4wd system isn't great and in general they're actually not a great car.....     I still like the way they look though - 3Dr in Blue just looks lovely on the road

LOLing about the first gear comment. Very true! The mk5 is the same, but it quite happily pulls away in second, so that's what I do.

Had a borrowed one for about 2 months... loved even minute of it! However it was a little hard for everyday driving (although still useable)... the sound made it fairly expensive to run but I would pick one over an ST anyday of the week. See mk5 R32 is you want the added comfort factor.

Thats true.  They are holding their money really well  :fighting:  Plus the Mk5 R32 is dull to drive compared to a Mk5  GTI.  How bad would it feel going from an RS to a Mk4 R32!!

I'd take the Mk4 R32 any day over a Ford, ST or RS etc. Might not be as fast but makes up for it in many other ways when modified.

The problem of changing from a Mk2 FRS is that most cars are a backwards step in power/dynamics unless you throw muchos cash at them on modifications.  Of all the things id expect you wouldnt be happy about sacrificing, id bet its grip most of all.  So that narrows the market right down IMO.  You have either AWD cars ie S3 or R32, or you have the FWD hot hatches with LSD as standard.

That leaves some tidy motors though

Those Mk2 MPS's will give a FRS a run for the money and come very highly spec'ed with gadgets inside.  Plus you get a plate differential.

Or you could get a mk1 S3

Id choose all the above cars before a Mk4 R32 tbh.  The R32 brings a lovely engine note and good grip to the party and thats about it IMO.

Ive got a mk2 at the moment, im a vw fan boy so i need a vw in my drive somewhere !

Why do Ford want to buy it back?

I was up buying an i pod lead, and the salesman asked if i was selling ? He said they have done really well selling the rs over the last few years although has been surprized as they havent had any used ones in as people are holding on to them, he told me he had buyers lined up for them. I think they are going to start phoning customers who bought new ones from them and ask if they will sell, im going to say no  even though they added another few hundered on to the price today

I really get on with the car and its holding its money pretty well, plus ive got a few mods ive not even fitted yet so i need to see what they are like

So they have offered you good money and they must believe they can make a good profit as well.

Why not try and sell it private.  YOu might make even more money

Yea im going to say no anyway mate, the rs is brill tbh beats any car ive had before for excitment - the main reason i was considering selling was to be debt free and i was even thinking of just buying a passat !!
If i never had any debt id not even think of selling it even for more than i paid for it, tbh its just i could really do with that extra £500 brick in my pocket at the moment, saying that ive only got a year to go so its only another 365 days of beans on toast to go ! And ill not be buying a car on tick again !

Im not really looking to sell tbh, it was just because i was asked i was a little curious and got me thinking about it, you know what i mean ?

I bought my Golf outright with no loan/finance and used what savings I had left to pay off the loan I had taken out for the previous car. Tis rather nice not having to pay out that sum every month.

I think that you gotta do what you gotta do to make the money allow you to enjoy your ride. Once you've made the financial commitment, which surely is done on the basis of being able to meet it, then forget the money and enjoy the car. Live and learn but there's never any point in harbouring any regrets in life.

If u are making a profit on the RS then I'd sell it. Can always get another. If u are close to breaking even I wouldn't bother. Keep and enjoy it. Lovely car the RS is :happy2:

i say keep the RS but i may have a reason for saying that  :signLOL:

but seriously if you can ride out the next year and not struggle with payments keep it,  think of all the modding money you`ll have after the last payment  :driver:

if the dealer is offering a good deal --but how much are the dealers going to make on it in a resale,I would keep hold of it if you can
