Tried fitting my rear brakes which were beautiful refurbished by DaveB a couple of months ago, but something seems to be wrong, when you depressed the pedal the piston moves out but it's nowhere near the pad!! Can the pistons be wound out half an inch to met the piston safely??? When at rest piston is sitting almost flush with the back of the caliper.......
-
keep pumping the pedal and it will move out mate

It's not, when you lift the pedal it pulls back in????
-
it will a little, but like i said it will move out, how fast are you pumping the pedal?
-
It's not me mate, my mechanic has the car......he has said that when you pump the pedal as soon as you take your foot off the piston is pulling back to the same position, no matter how many times he pushes it or how quick!?

Hmm ive never had that before, i take it he has managed to bleed the system? he could (in theroy) use a left hand threaded wind back tool to wind the piston out slightly, apart from that i dont know what else to suggest mate

The system is bled fine but not working, I think he will try winding the piston out a bit further and see if that helps, he's going back to his garage now, dedicated....!

Hope he gets it sorted mate :happy2:

Hope you get it sorted Lee. Doesn't sound like its a good day for brakes for us does it.
-
handbrake on and off plenty of times will help
-
Do hope you get it sorted Lee. However, Muuuuhahahahahahaha :P Matching calipers aren't meant to be

When I saw you had commented I just knew it wouldn't be anything constructive............s'pose I deserved it though, ar5e! :signLOL:

I've not anything yet today but honestly I'm baffled, I mean rear brake calipers are not exactly a technological master piece, are they?
-
This does sound strange, you'll have to let us know what the problem was once you've got it fixed. Keepin my fingers crossed for you. :happy2:

Roger that, if the mechanic can't sort it, perhaps DaveB will have an answer, just waiting to hear back from him but I think he is currently on holiday. :sad1:

The rear pistons are threaded on to a corkscrew type centre pin which is pushed out/in with the handbrake. It sounds like the piston is seized on to the pin. I'm guessing that the piston rewind tool if used to twist the piston a good bit out and then back in will free it up. Give the handbrake a good, strong work out before this as PDT suggests.

Ok mate won't be the piston seized on the pin, that can't really happen after a rebuild. Could be you need to swap out the piston itself, prob best sent to me in honesty.
I'd hook the cable up to it and do your handbrake numerous times....
I can take a look when I get back....

Cheers for the reply Dave, I have sent you an email.
It is both calipers by the way, and after my mechanic wound the piston out to meet the pads the offside one pissed fluid pass the piston seal!! :surprised:
