Title: Sticking door handle
Post by: gsgti on April 24, 2012, 11:04:07 pm
I'm having a problem with the passenger front door handle on my golf. When you release the handle having opened the door, the handle remains in a 'pulled out' positon - as if you are still pulling it. The only way to get the handle to return to a normal position is then to slam the door shut / hit the handle - not ideal

Anyway the local garage (not VW) say they will need to take off the outer door skin to get access and sort problem!!   :surprised: They have already tried huge quantities of oiling to no avail.

Anybody any thoughts / encountered a similar prob and do they really need to remove the outer door skin to sort it?? maybe I should bite the bullet and visit my local VW garage

Any help gratefully received

Ta Graeme

Cheers Stevie

Phoned VW - no recall i'm afraid but they reckoned they could fix it whilst I waited - no door skin off and about £35!!

There is a recall on the tiguan for the same problem, but they have a different handle setup compared to the golf.

I've seen us remove the bung from the handle/door and shave a tiny bit off the bung to stop it sticking (just where it touches the plastic handle)
(that's all the recall is on the Tiguan anyway lol)

If you want to save yourself a few quid, a search of this forum will find a thread detailing the process to remove the lock mechanism. The first few steps of the process are removing the door handle, which is a 5 minute task. The only tool required is a T20 screwdriver style torx tool. I suspect it would be very easy to determine the cause of the stiction.
