Hi Steve,

Is that because she's done a lot of these, and it's not too good for her? That makes me a bit nervous as mines a 94k'er.  :scared:

....As you know, mine's now done 100k miles and I've lost count of how many JKM rolling road sessions! I don't see how a dyno session by someone like Jim can be harmful.

If all fluids are hot and the car is well maintained, it won't do any harm  :happy2:

As Robin says, his is fit & healthy after many a run. It's actually less harmful to your car than thrashing it through the gears on the road as there is no wind resistance on the dyno, plus the car doesn't have to haul it's own weight. . .

Its mainly because the last time I went , I was told my Dsg clutch packs were faulty by the guys at JKM. (slipping on the rollers) This was only the 2nd car they have had do this, and funnily enough, that was another Bluefin stage 2 car.. Seeing as bluefin is ment to me a less aggressive map then others, I didn't believe that this was the case, so I done a Dsg reset with VCDS, and also had the bluefin map replaced. she's now had a CAI installed, and I'm totally happy with the way she runs and have logged to check alls well, and also have ZERO slippage on the road ( infact only experienced it once before Jim suggested it) .. She's been roller'd nearly a dozen times over the years and I know a figure which she's achieving, so I'm happy with that. Car is awesome on the road, I don't want to told anything else like I have been before that I've proven wasn't true.So I'm happy to come along and spectate.

Will be good for me to see the difference between Jabba's Dyno and JKM's Dyno as most of the current mods will be done by then (in the back of my mind I am thinking APR fuel Pump, RS4 Valve and FMIC of some sort, but undecided yet)

Look forward to putting some faces to forum names  :happy2:

....Done! Now only 8 places left!

If you run on the same JKM's rollers again sometime in the future, it will give you a very useful comparison if you add further performance mods. And anyway it is like a car health check.

Hi Robin what time is it all due to finish? I have plans for the evening thats all?

....They are usually over by around lunchtime. They always start very soon after 9.00am and there is a maximum of 30 reservations on the dyno.

I can possibly arrange for you to go on earlier rather than later if you have a long way to travel for your evening plans. What car is yours? A K03, K04, GTI? (sorry I don't remember everyone's specific car).

KO4 ED30 2+ Robin.

If you can Provisional me that would be great as I am at AKS getting some problems sorted on the 6th Sept.

If Alex can't fix, I am sure he will, then I will have to pull out.

I have a 2ish hour drive but no worries RR.

....Sounds as if your personal circumstances change might be a downwards one - If so, I'm sorry to hear that. But think positive, life is full of changes.

I very much appreciate you letting me know, Mike. This event is nearly full and it possibly makes way for someone else.

Yes it is a long way to travel, but I am sure it will be worth it, plus putting some faces to names and seeing other GTI's, ED30's, VAG cars is always good  :happy2:.

My front splitter still needs painting and rear bumper clip replacing and alloys need a refurb (previous owner liked kerbs and gate posts!) , not gonna have time to do anything about that before then, altho it will get the PV Exhaust take off pipe changed over (free update) before then and probably an oil and filter change (gonna give the Millers Nanotech oil a go!).

I get on the motorway at junction 9 so driving the opposite direction to meet at Hedge End is silly.

My brother did it last year and said it was boring as hell, loads of waiting around with nothing to do and having to fake laughter when they're on the 6th retake of each scene!!

Robin - now we are getting quite close to the big day, I'd like to bring up a comment that R-Tech Nick made following the results from the dyno day back in Feb.

Nick questioned why JKM start the dyno runs so late in the rev range on the K03 Powered cars as he believes this loses us torque (the K03 cars spool much earlier and thus give higher peak readings).

Apparently JKM used to start the runs at a lower RPM (can be seen from their website).

Anyway, here is what Nick said http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,40255.msg496998.html#msg496998

Do you think its worth raising with Jim & the team before we start? I'm aware both R-Tech and JKM are well respected tuners so i'd expect there is a logical explanation as to why JKM changed, but I for one would be keen to know

Cheers,

Graeme  :happy2:

Regarding the matter Nick @ R-Tech brought up: I thought this when I was going through all of the RR graphs on the JKM gallery. Surely this will limit hinder the torque produced?

Would like to hear the response from JKM so keep us updated RR  :happy2:

How do they test the R? Surely they don't like doing the 4wd stuff similarly to the R32...

I thought there was a stage 2+ R there last time that got 324bhp or something...?

IIRC, this question has been covered in another post ages ago - R-Tech Nick should already know the answer to that question. But hopefully things can be confirmed again.

Robin,

I've been on the dyno at R-Tech today and the clutch was slipping quite a bit  :sad1:

I'm up for running but not sure if it will be worth it - I'll have to discuss it with the JKM team when I get there.

My graphs from today's dyno look like a mountain range

Sorry for short notice, only found out 20 minutes ago!

Was looking forward to meeting a few people from on here..................................

Will PM you with message also.

....If you mean a running order list which groups cars by type (Ed30's together etc) then yes, as they usually do.

However, as you are a solo Rocco R I guess it makes sense to sandwich you inbetween the Mk5 GTI's and Ed30's. Do you have a particular wish if it can be accommodated, Lee?

....Yeovil isn't far from me - It's only ~1.5 hours drive from JKM. JKM Dyno-Days are usually finished by lunchtime.

I can't guarantee the running order but I'm sure that Kate will do what she can by putting you on early in the Mk5 GTI group.

EDIT: I've just spoken to Kate and as all our cars are very similar, on this occasion the order isn't so important. So I'm going to arrange it based on the order which folks asked to be added but to accommodate special circumstances wherever possible.

I'll post the final running order list on Friday lunchtime so that JKM have time to print it out ready for Saturday.

This isn't gonna be much of a meet if everyone buggers off as soon as they've had their go on the dyno.

Don't worry Mr Wolf you can come back with us for a nice cuppa tea or coffee, whatever you prefer.

Also if there is space I think Dan at Vanworx would be interested in bringing his MKV along

....I spoke to Dan on the phone earlier this morning and he didn't want the rollers. He will probably drop by if he can persuade his girlfriend to go shopping in Southampton - Surely that shouldn't be too difficult!

Being both happy (VW) campers, have you met Dan, Oli? I'll make a point of introducing you if not - Vanworx do some good work.

I'm pretty sure Oli has met Dan as I believe they were on adjacent pitches at the Festival of Speed.

....No problem, Oli - That's why I kept you in at #10. If we get to #10 before you arrive, then we'll slide you down the list one at a time.

The R didn't manage to crack 300 on JKMs heartbreaker Dyno today.

340 lb ft of torque though, but peak bhp was way earlier than Oli's with identical map/engine/settings!

353.7 bhp from memory. Impressive

James did 378bhp with a hefty 420 lb ft of torque

What setup is James running?

Water meth if I heard correctly but someone can correct me if I'm wrong

Was quite happy with my 230.0 bhp from my stock eddy. Not bad after 5 years and 42k miles. Again, thanks to JKM and Robin for a good day out.  :happy2:

R-Tech custom map, K04 with WMI. should see the graph   it's totally flat from something like 4200rpm. Holds the power all the way through. Well done Nick for mapping that output  :notworthy:

JKM had to put extra straps on as it was almost pulling itself out of the dyno

@Robin - thanks for arranging the day & the passenger ride  :happy2:

@James - cheers for the passenger ride in that animal  :happy2: cannot believe how well it goes

Thanks to everyone for coming - A great day out  :happy2:

I'm very happy with mine - It's back up to where it was now that the APR hpfp has settled in. The crisp temperature of the day will have helped.

My Revo 2 is still set B7 / F7 / T5.

....I guess that's the K03 vs K04 difference.

I drove h4rdy's Ed30 today (Stage 2?) - Very nice indeed! The power creeps up on you... I thought the alert beep was telling my I was exceeding 70 but it was 100!! Ooops!

322.2bhp.

Stage 2+ Robin.

310ftlb Torque if I am reading it right. (i'll post to my thread)

Apparently a nice AFR curve?

But the curve is very nice. Full power at 6400rpm and then just holds until the redline.

Very very pleased as it just drives so well :driver:

Sorry I couldn't hang around much past 11 chaps but thanks Robin for organising, great bunch of chaps and the badge was briliant Robin/Hedge!

It was good to meet a few of you today, some really impressive cars on show...a credit to their owners!  :happy2: I had the silver 3 door Pirelli.
I wasn't sure what mine would make being a Pirelli with a Revo Stg 1, but I got 265.1HP. I've included my plots. Not sure what the AFR plot is telling me as there seems to be a steady decline from 4000rpm. Anyone know anything about these?

I'd love to get nearer 300HP next time...

The AFR lines go down at top of rev range as it gets richer (more fuel ) which is the norm to prevent engine getting too hot and going bang!

But 265 is abit low though for stage 1 Pirelli.

Just to add to what chungster said, it may be worth getting a Revo dealer (ie JKM etc) to check your settings. Who installed the map for you?

I am biased, but a custom map will get you better results. The "one size fits all" Revo has been based on mainstream mods like miltek exhausts and ITG intakes etc. With your pre-cat removed a custom map can be tailored to get the best from the extra flow without the map having to be compromised.

R-Tech FTW

....You're right, Gray, but achieving a custom map by R-Tech (or equivalent if there is one) can take a couple of days and involve a huge amount of trials/tests. It depends what the car driver individually wants - I've always been extremely happy with the driveability of Revo on my K03 GTI and this latest JKM dyno plot is testament to it.

As you already know, I have a huge amount of respect for Nick/R-Tech and am not shy in saying so, but Revo Stage 2 suits me well. I don't want to remove my pre-cat etc as it potentially would interfere with my Milltek support. It works beautifully, so why should I mend it?

Looks like I missed out on good rr day again.. :sad1:  lol   Next year I will have my own TFSI to abuse tune and bring along to the rr days. :driver:

Maps aint magic, they play a small part in the final power output.  Biggest factors are hardware, fuel, manifold air temps ect..   I gained 23bhp on an ED30 last week by replacing the D revision with a G revision.  The car was making 292bhp on stage1 with the D, then I tuned it to stage2 and managed 291bhp but with 30bhp the midrange, then fitted the G and ran the car again to make 314bhp peak.

The maps also have offset load reduction maps based on lambda / fuel trims /coolant temps /air temps and knock control, so wrong fuel or a bad batch of V-power with the car running a little hot 5-6deg out of the optimised maps range then its easy to lose 20-30bhp from the peak power numbers.  Only way to explain dyno numbers on a RR day is to log the engine during the run.

I was over the moon with James's 450lbft 380bhp on the JKM dyno, torque numbers same as my dyno but 20bhp down from the good run on my dyno but I can understand the reason for running 20bhp.  Peak HP for close on 2000rpm is madness.

Nick

So has anyone learnt why so many Police were hanging around the JKM area? There must have been something major about to go down judging by the amount of Police. It certainly wasn't undercover!

I got the impression they'd had a "tip off" that JKM were holding a forum event and saw it as a potential nice little earner   - although I only seemed to see them pulling White vans

I used to visit Demon Tweaks (popular motorsport garage near Wrexham) which was in the middle of an industrial estate (similar to JKM's) and that was almost under constant surveillance by the police  as drivers made an enthusiastic exit off the site. . .

They were pulling over cars all over the place so it was definitely traffic policing (not a murderer or Jimmy Saville on the loose  )

....But all they had to do was park an unmarked car in the road opposite the turn into JKM. They didn't stop any of us AFAIK. Mind you, we are usually responsible drivers rather than boy-racers and keep our spirited driving to a safe time and place.

I spotted 1 marked BMW estate, 2 Police vans (not camera vans), and at least 8 Police on foot in high viz clothing. I saw one light flatbed small truck they had stopped - Typical scrappy or dodgy trader vehicle.

When I took out a couple of us in my car for a demonstration ride I noticed a couple of the Police on the pavement take a long hard look at me but I was as well behaved as I always am in urban environments so I just stared back from behind my prescription shades (and with my 'Jim Fixed It' badge well hidden).

Last time I got stopped by marked Police they apologised to me and told me what I nice car I had! They thought my Hella DRL's were foglights until I politely proved they weren't.

The TSI seems to make quite a difference over the TFSI.

Not sure why really maybe the head is a bit more efficient.

The heartbreaker broke my heart.

Previously on JKM’s rollers I got 321, Revo2+. On Saturday I had wmi and timing bumped up from 6 to 8.
I was a bit disappointed as the car seems to pull noticeably harder so was expecting more.
The only thing I can think of is the S3 cooler maybe causing a restriction in airflow as I don’t think temps were a problem on Saturday. Maybe a Twintercooler or THS will reduce the pressure drop.
Maybe this is all I’m gonna get with Revo 2+ on an eddy?
Think I may give R Tech a call on Monday. I want K04 with more..

Be interesting to log the CF's with timing set at 8, even with WMI. All speculation without data logging.

I understand what your saying and don't get me wrong, the car does drive very well. I was just so sure from my butt dyno it was making more than another 15hp and when it didn't I guess I was a little disappointed, especially after putting a fair bit of effort into it.

CF's at timing 8 are anything from 0 to 6. It varies quite a bit, sometimes 0's and 1's, another time 3's and 6's.  I use the Polar FIS advanced to constantly keep an eye on them.
I've spent countless hours changing nozzles, pump pressures, when the water/meth kicks in, test driving and logging by FIS mainly.

Good meet yesterday guys. Big thanks to JKM and Robin for sorting the day  :happy2:

The old girl managed to run, despite my concerns about the clutch. Looks like it started to slip at little at about 3.5k, but overall very happy with the result.

Need to get a uprated clutch sorted and then should be able to tweak the settings a tad for a little more  :happy2:.

James said he could hear the clutch slipping whilst on the dyno.  :sad1:

Will prob go for the same Helix & SMF that James runs - if its good enough to cope with his power, it'll fine with a full powered Revo stage 3.

James's clutch is hardcore   you'll develop a strong left leg after a traffic queue

Does anyone know what the difference between the Ed30 engine and the ED35?  As my stage 1 ED35 makes nearly the same power/torque as my old stage 2 ED30 did.  It feels just as fast from my bum dyno, but then there is only 5 bhp differnce, the Ed30 being run at SRR and obviously the ED35 at JKM.

Cheers in advance

....Yes, I have done in the past at The Churchillian (good pub dining food), Portchester, overlooking Portsmouth. I normally combine it with a BIALI lunch meet but not many folks from the Dyno-Day attend as they get dragged off shopping by girlfriends etc. Still you'd get on well with the BIALI Boyz - We're all car enthusiasts.

It makes a lot of sense for those who have travelled a big mileage to JKM and it's better than a McD's (which is perfect for a quick breakfast).

I have already spoken with JKM and we're looking at the next Dyno-Day being late February / early March - Always a Saturday morning.

I'm looking forward to the next one already!!

Surely wheels spin would result in a flat spot on the graph?

You would see wheel spin on a graph depending where its loosing traction running light of the rear idel roller or spinning on the front brake roller.  Its just the diffrence from a generic map and a full custom map from scratch with over 100hours R&D and a passion and drive for power not profit / sales.

The car makes 450lbft on my dyno aswell, and the graph is following the boost curve I mapped in 2 weeks proir,  fast spooling but held back to 4000rpm to keep the turbine speeds lower so the turbo pumps air not chops it.   On my dyno when the LPFP is above 4.1bar and the constant fuel trims are below +10% the car will make 401-404bhp, but as soon as the LPFP is playing catch up and trims exceed +10% the ecu is set to pull out around 20bhp.  We spent 7 hours trying to work around this to realise a 6bar pump is needed anfter fitting a brand new LPFP.   But still with the stock LPFP it can fuel fine to 12.4:1 at 130bar with 0CF across the whole rpm range.
And to show my dyno is on par with the JKM runs, this is what we finished testing the car at the before the JKM RR day. And no wheel spin as my dyno has a fancy system to detect wheel spin and slip.

It was spinning the wheels and pulling itself off the rollers on the configuration runs (or whatever they are prior to the power run). The JKM guys sh&t themselves   and promptly started strapping it down from all angles before they did the power runs

Was quite a sight. . . .

Awesome results there for you R-tech chaps really, you are doing a fine job I'm so glad you had success and opened a few eyes on JKM's 'heartbreaker rollers' !  :happy2:  we've had quite a few cars in with your tunes on board and must say I'm very impressed so far keep the excellent work up guys  :congrats:

Its impressive, no doubting that, BUT surely WHEELSPIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Surely wheels spin would result in a flat spot on the graph?

You misunderstood me.  I wasnt insinuating that the figures are due to wheel spin.

I was thinking along the lines of over 450 Lbft and only 2wd as a road car....WHEELSPIN!!!!!!!!!!!

great figures or not, I cant see that being as drivable as some of the others.  As impressive as the figures are, i think id want  less aggressive midrange

I am pretty sure I am happy with mine, I think it would be tooooo much for me!

One for the younger generation methinks.

Having driven yours, h4rdy, I agree - Your Stage 2+ Ed30 has plenty of driveable power and doesn't need any more. It's possible to smoothly get into licence-losing territory without realising anyway! Ping!

Understood , but think of this as a demo of what can be done with a bone stock K04 motor, specific hardware and a well developed custom tune for that hardware.

I would imagine Nick can easily tune chassis specific for 2WD or 4WD , this however was a show of out + out grunt & power on JKM's famous 'low reader' and I believe it has opened some eyes very wide so good for them!

Impressive though.

When on the same day, a completely stock Mk5 GTI plots 199 bhp and a completely stock Ed30 plots 229 bhp, surely that doesn't indicate that JKM's Dyno-Dynamics is a "low reader" but suggests that SOME others around the country might be biassed as 'high readers'. Though of course, conditions vary every day and generally rolling-road sessions are only a snapshot at the time.

No-one wants to take away how clever Nick at R-Tech has been but the plots on James' car are very extreme. A conversion to '4WD' has been mentioned, surely for improved driveability reasons.

If, on this occasion, Statller/R-Tech's dyno numbers match with JKM's on the same car, then that is at least reassuring to all concerned.  :happy2:

James has all the bits for the 4WD conversion at home

When I was out on the passenger ride, James explained how drivable it is with the linear map (the "tabletop" like power curve suggests this isnt a "peaky" power delivery), combined with the response of the K04, although you can't fully utilise WOT until doing motorway speeds, its smooth and drivable around town (although his paddle clutch is a bit hardcore  ).

Nick has used James's as a development car, but could re-create the setup on anone elses  :happy2:

Surely this setup is a great alternative to a hybrid K04, and fills the gap in the market between standard K04 setup and LOBA?

LOL  got ya,
Under 100% throttle then its utter madness but in a good way which gives grin factor 10   The car is mapped using a unique 1:1 linear throttle map with, linear progressive load control vs rpm which is open loop control for the boost and N75, but for full load the ecu reverts to closed loop boost control..  You will skocked how easy it is to drive and use all the power, even powering out of bends in 3rd at 70% throttle it dont feel like it wants to head for a ditch, or understeer into the path of oncoming traffic.     Its only as aggressive as you want it to be.. :driver:

James's was the TFSI is have used our new TIV mapping style which ditches some of the ecus torque interventions to allow for a faster ramp rate on the load and on its own merits gained 50lbft.

The reason that James' car is making so much power is nothing to do with Nick's mapping skills. It's because James has all my old hardware parts off my ED30 when I got rid of it...  :P :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:

Does anyone know what the difference between the Ed30 engine and the ED35?  As my stage 1 ED35 makes nearly the same power/torque as my old stage 2 ED30 did.  It feels just as fast from my bum dyno, but then there is only 5 bhp differnce, the Ed30 being run at SRR and obviously the ED35 at JKM.

Cheers in advance

Oli are you not selling your '35 now?

Yes, its up for sale, but if it doesnt sell for the right amount, I dont think Ill be too bothered.  Im feeling the love after finding 300 horses from stage 1.  Thinking of upgrading tyres, and maybe stage 2 if it doesnt sell...........

Just read all this!!

It is a crazy car if you planted your foot you would just spin and makes it pointless,  With the trottle map it is 100% useable but it is like learning to drive again lol.

Got to take my hat of nick  :drinking:

It will be going AWD for some crazy lauch fun! but having some fun with my diff first.

Hmmm ok, I was getting 319ft/lbs at stage 2 and 309bhp, and stage 2+ has made a distinct difference in pulling power, so roll on Feb!

Who set your Revo up?

I do agree with you, it's more than enough power... I thought about WMI, but there's no point... R32 rear brakes and suspension mods next year! I let a girl drive my car, she has a race license and races in various motorsports, and she came back with the biggest grin on her face, and said that's the quickest FWD car she's driven... loved it!

A cross between Alex at AKS and myself.

9-6-9 with no timing pull.

Its also a heart breaker dyno so where did to get it dyno'd before?

I am happy as like I said it drives very very well with a lovely curve.

....I've driven h4rdy's Ed30 and it's very smooth on the power and gets up to 100 before you know it!

I am definitely planning to organise another Dyno-Day at JKM in late February / early March but it's far too early to settle a definite date but I have spoken to Kate about it.
