Title: tommy's Mk5 R32 DSG
Post by: tommy_a on April 28, 2012, 03:41:25 pm
Just thought I'd start a thread to show off my new car! Its a 2007 (57) R32 3dr DSG in DBP with 34k miles on the clock. It has pretty much every extra apart from satnav and parking sensors so im a very happy boy !! The car is in pretty much mint condition apart from a slight ding on the front wing and a couple of marks on top of the rear bumper next to the boot. They will be pretty easy fixes though !!

Heres a couple of quick phone pics:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2F9efb58c0-1.jpg&hash=2d4393dfb8bbf2a2bb66a06004e95a3986783cd2)

And one I took today and had a play around with! I'm not too good on computer so if it's sh*t tell me! I won't be offended!! :D

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2FIMG_5248.jpg&hash=e081dfdc67da45826843ef2db763a1619d7f0940)

I took a few more which ill post up later!

I'm absolutely loving the car! And dsg is just awesome! :D

I have got some plans in the pipe line but nothing that will happen straight away!
To do list/wish list:

Full vehicle detail/paint correction
Miltek non-res cat back
Intake of some sort
RNS-510
Oem Bluetooth

Not a massive list or anything awe inspiring, just things that will make the car complete for me! I was thinking about a slight suspension drop, and possibly getting some 19" VMR 710's but it would be the last thing to do as everything else is more important to me!

Thanks for looking, Tom.

....Milltek is an absolute must-have on that glorious V6  :happy2:

An intake probably isn't worth it - The normally aspirated R32 is difficult to performance mod without spending some serious money. The returns on modding don't match turbo'd cars.

I was pricing up millteks before I got the car!! I'll get one soon hopefully! :D

Yeah I read that tuning the R32 was hard/costly. The only real reason I want an intake is to make the engine bay look abit nicer as its quite bland atm!

^^^^
Understood  :happy2: - My very first mod was a Milltek.

There are a few things you can do to customise the engine cover, especially effective being a 6-pot.

As you can see the engine bay is a mess, its covered in road grime and dust. It will be sorted soon though!!

And the bit of damage to the rear bumper. Looks like someone dragged something into/out of the boot!!

I did the flapper mod today and so far I'm liking it! It seems louder at lower revs which is nice, but it's also a little louder at 70mph which I'm not too sure I like! I'll give it a week or so and see how I get on!
Heres a quick vid:

And I also fitted a new badge to the rear:

That was recorded on my iPhone 4. And like you say it's quite a good recording! And the sound of the v6 is why I wanted one! Worth the poor fuel economy and the compromise on tunability!

Not updated this for a while, mainly because ive just been enjoying driving the car!

Since I last posted I've fitted some amber side lights up front:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2Fce327a68.jpg&hash=138e39c1681f043dd5bde95eb1cb468c94dcef87)

I've also fitted some led number plate bulbs:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2F9b0503e5.jpg&hash=c517adbacd514c1147c11b107ef5f08f18fe362f)

Today I've just finished some work on the rear lights. Firstly I didn't like how the rear lights weren't symmetrical (reverse one side/fog the other) so I set about sorting it out. I removed the red reflector from the rear fog and fitted a red bulb. But as I could still see the dark bulb I removed the white diffuser from the reverse and fitted it. This has now even things up.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2Fc08a2d13.jpg&hash=70f2adf228649ebbfc2ace5ef9aadc3fb125081b)

I've also been working on sorting out the 4 ring rear light mod. I ordered some fittings and set about it.
So take this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2F69a69da8.jpg&hash=3d41f8524ac8a14b622d91b06d9cbd7d81986a00)
And these:

Fit them to the car:

And you get this:

Admittedly not the best picture but I will get one later as it gets dark. I'm very happy with them! :D

Now I just need to save up for coilovers and some bbs ck's !!!

Ive just fitted these:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2F89588646.jpg&hash=c74be4128f0a61b01671334504d313c4048dff19)

As you can see I've removed the silver parts with the writing on. I didn't want the silver parts on and I was hoping the paddles would be solid underneath, but there not. I'm now going to source some thin real carbon sheet and cut out the shapes and re-fit them.

Won't have a proper test with them until later as I'm going to let the adhesive set properly!

As you can see they have done quite alot to the car up to now, and its just waiting for its turn in the spray booth.
It will be having a complete respray so will come out looking mint !! I cant wait to get it back now !! Just over a week to go !!

Although when i do get it back, ill need to spend £460 on tax, and about £400-500 getting the engine, dsg and haldex serviced !!

I might then treat myself to an RNS-510 if i can find one at the right price !!

I will update with lots of pics once i get it back !! Oh how ive missed that V6 growl !!

Glad to see it's getting fixed up good, time for a treat when you get her back with a new RNS510 then  :happy2:

I'm sure your happy... it looks like they have had quite a bit of work to do

Yeah i deserve a treat after everything ive been through !!

They have done a hell of a lot of work !! One of the main reasons i wanted pictures was to see how much/how in depth they were doing. As you can see they have totally taken the car to bits to get it back to how it was!! Im also glad they took the dash out to remove all the broken glass as it would have annoyed me if there were bits rattling about!!

I just hope the finished article looks the part !! Fingers crossed !!

I'm over the moon with the progress that has been made! With it being such an in depth repair I'm feeling quite good about getting the car back! It's been almost 2 months since I last drove it, and I'd oh had it 3 months before that! I celebratory road trip is deffinately on the cards! :D

And Robin, I've gone through all that already mate! I was so angry at first, but now I jut feel sorry for the little f*ckers! I know I'm getting my car back and the fact they will never be able to have one cheers me up slightly!

I spoke to the garage and they confirmed that i should have the car delivered back to me next wednesday! :D im sooooo excited to see it!

I've also booked the car in to have a full engine service, DSG service and haldex service next Friday! I also had to sorn the car today as its tax ran out at the end of August and I had a last reminder letter today! Whoops! I'll be getting the tax next mon/tues ready for its return home!

Im also going to sort out my private plate tomorrow and get it transferred over ready for next week! I just need to order some plates now.

Anyone know a decent site for getting German style plates made up? I'd prefer legal ones but I don't mind risking it not! :D naughty I know! :P

I had the car delivered to me today, but it went back straight away!

Front bumper on both sides not aligned properly with wings, tailgate not aligned with roof or either rear light/wing.

As you can see from the pic below the rear screen has been bonded in to far. They have tried to compensate for this by bringing the boot lid out to get the correct gap but it looks a mess and isnt right!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2F3A586016-2A30-48AB-8AD8-53EFC31E3358-9730-00000B21B8946DAC.jpg&hash=91319e43dbffd370055022e20ae6a8854f97e47b)

You can see how far in the rear window is by the size of the lip on the boot under it!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv725%2Ftommy306pug%2FC18EDF6E-EB5F-4039-800B-F3F2AEAA5FD5-9730-00000B21C076DD87.jpg&hash=8901866093c1826fb50c8e6911739ce679ffc736)

The car is back at the bodyshop and will be sorted tomorrow hopefully! It did look great though! The paint work looked amazing! I think it could do with a good detail/wax/polish to get it looking its best!

Apart from the few littles problems I'm very happy with the job that's been done! :D

Whey hey !! Ive finallye got the car back in my possesion !!

It was delivered back to me at 3pm on thursday with all the defects rectified !! To say im happy with it is an understatement !! I then took the car for its mot at 3:15pm on thursday and it passed with flying colours. I then nipped and put 12 months tax on it !!

There was one problem that i found with it though. When i checked the vanity mirrors and lights neither worked. I was all for phoning them up and kicking off but i thought id have a quick look myself. It turned out that the led bulbs had been put back in the wrong way round. A quick and simple fix !!

I took it extremely careful on the way home as the car hasnt been run properly for around 2 months now !! Howevr as its been running for a couple of days i went out tonight for a quick blast, and OMFG !! I forgot how much i love this car !! Its absolutely immense !!

Ive not taken any pics yet as ive been doing diy all day so not had the opportunity !! Ill try and get some tomorrow though !!

Im so relieved to get it back !! But whilst i have been waiting to get it back ive been looking at mods. Milltek, intake, RNS-510 and coilovers are all on the wish list. Just need to save up a bit now !!

By the way, when you turn the ignition off but dont remove the key, do your interior lights come on straight away, when you remove the key or only once the doors open ?? As mine only come on once i open the door. Is this right ??

I bought some black coolant and washer bottle caps last year, and also treated myself to a Forge intake! I'm very happy with the way it looks now, and the extra noise from the intake is a welcomed bonus! :D

I've also got some .:R brake pad retainers but haven't got round to fitting them yet!

Also, I've got the car for sale at the minute! I've been thinking about it for a while but every time I get back in it or see it after a good clean I wonder to myself why I'm thinking of selling! If someone offers me the right money it will probably go, but until then I'm going to enjoy everyday with it!
