Looking to do an oil change tomorrow on my Edition 30.
What grade oil should i use? The car has done 39k.
Thanks in advance!

5w40 :-)

If it's stock, 5W-30. If it's remapped, a few think 5W-40 may be better.
-
I'm stage 2 and still using 5W30... should i be using 5W40 then? Why is it better?

IIRC, when I had a chat with Alex from AKS about this, he said that mapped cars run hotter than spec. Consequently, the 5W-30 oil becomes thinner than it normally would in a stock car. This can lead to damage with bearings/cam follower/etc. Using 5W-40 means the oil is as viscous in a mapped engine as the 5W-30 would be in a stock engine.
Or at least that was my impression of it all.

In simple terms 5w-40 will stay thicker at higher temps. this should keep oil temps down a little and help maintain oil pressure.
I have made the switch in my car from 5w30 to 5w40 due to oil temp issues on a trackday.
-
So 5w30 if standard then?

Did it help?

FWIW i never ran anything other than 5W30 in my last and current vRS. Between the 2 i've done over 90k miles and never had any issues. My last vRS was Stage 2/2+ and this one is Stage 1.

don't know yet, will see next time its on track.

It's either/or then untill the time comes when I get her on the track... for which it'll have an oil change prior anyway...
Thanks,

Costco Wholesale have Castrol Edge 5w/40 for £30inc VAT for 4 litres at the moment :)

Castrol Edge 5w30 (Which is VW 504.00 approved as required) :happy2:
Personally I think changing your oil for a remapped car, especially at Stage 1 is a bit OTT.

Maybe a little, but I'm safe knowing that I'm using the best oil available (millers nanodrrive 5w40) and i won't run the risk of thinning oil. :happy2:

Just a question Rich,
How do you know that Millers Nanodrive is the best available? Only asking it as i've never heard of it  (not that that means anything )

I trust alex's information. Although it does look like used oil when new (a bit brown) Alex assures me its the best, and I've no reason to doubt him.

Was just curious that's all with not having heard of it :happy2:

Neither had I to be honest mate.

It's not been out long with Millers. There are only two oil companies in the world who are using this technology. Millers have used it in their gearbox oils for a few years now and have only just moved it to their engine oils.
Search 'fullerene' in google to learn about the molecule and why its so good. It acts like a ball bearing reducing friction and being carbon its a tad strong.
Obviously there are loads of 5w40 oils available, but this is the best.

Cheers Alex :happy2:

Which oil should i go for?
I only want to spend £30 max for 5lts.
Is Mobil super 3000 5w30 or Mobil ESP any good?
