Hi what would be better a R or S3 , I would like a new car and due to the limited miles I drive around 4k pa ,I want some thing with 3 doors and would need to be DSG as my wife would drive it now and again.
I currently have a estate car and a coupe , My wife won't sell the Coupe so the estate will go , our son in learning to drive so will soon be driving himself. So a 3 door is my preferred option, last winter we were stranded due to the snow and having two rear wheel drive cars so this is why I think a 4wd is the way forward.
Last year I seriously considered a ED35 and decided it just wasn't special enough.
I realise the mk6 is almost at the end of it life cycle and will be replaced by a MK7 ,Is the Audi S3 early in its life cycle or is that due to be replaced any time soon. I always change my cars at 3 yrs old and the Merc will be there come October.
We have a ED30 DSG as well and I love it !
Spec wise I think R 3 doors DSG with 19" and metallic grey with Nav is there any other must have options on a R. The ED35 worked out around 3-4 k cheaper but didn't have the 4wd and extra 35 bhp bigger brakes and also looked more special all round imo.
Any advice would be great TIA

I'm sure the s3 would depreciate less being an audi, but i love the Golf R... in blue, black or dark grey..
-
The S3 is nearing the end of its life cycle aswell, i think a new A3 is coming along later this year so the S3 will follow.
Personally ive had an S3 and its awesome and will lose less money than the Golf R
-
RS3?

RS3?
I think they are only in 5 dr sports hatch and i really don't like the look .

If going new I'd wait for the new S3, I would imagine It'll come out a lot quicker than the Mk7 R. But if buying used I'd go for a Mk6 Golf R over the current S3.
Just need those lottery numbers to buck up their ideas. :sad1:
-
Personally I'd go S3 same as above :)
-
S3 all the way but I'm biased
-
I love the exclusivity of the Golf R, so that would be my choice. S3s are ten a penny.

and cheaper :happy2:

Tough one. and I'd say maybe neither.
If it had to be of those two then I concur with above, I think the S3 is more reserved and may fare better in the depreciation stakes but the new A3 will hurt it. The R is a nice car and a little more exclusive, but it's no S3 i'm afraid.
Could you wait for this?? -

+1, S3's are two a penny, see them often, only seen 1 Golf R thus far

If you can afford the depreciation (on anything new) then the Golf R (much rarer compared to the S3).
However, there are plenty of S3 bargins around if you are prepared to look at used, this is a random manual I found http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3825864.htm and would save you around £10,000,
there must be 10's of similar cars at dealers.

Golf R for me. A3 range is due to be replaced in a few weeks. I think the order books are already open!
Plus the Golf's infotainment systems are MILES better than the S3s, altho I think the S3 just edges it on looks for me.
Just whatever you do, please for the love of God don't ruin it by getting it in white.
-
Having driven one recently it would be the Golf R all day long!
I now want one badly! :notworthy:
-
Golf R in in rising blue with dark headlights and silver 19" Talladega all day long, my next car in about 2 years time me thinks
-
Golf R
-
S3 but I'm biased
The interior quality is much better than the golf, it looks better (more subjective I guess) and just feels more solid.
You're not going to go wrong with either though!
