What can I say....bloody great bit of software that makes the DSG what it should have been from the factory
7k+ shifting ftw.
Faster shifts up AND down the box
Smoother shifting up and down the box (didn't think this was possible)
Better "blipping" noise from the zorst
Manual mode is now a manual (but if you push it continuously it will push through the rev limite to the next gear if you want it to)
Faster set off from a standstill
Better torque handling capability
Torque limiter relaxed in 1st and second gears
60mph is now possible in second and 90+ in 3rd
It now releases the full rpm power potential of the K04, so no more RR days with the box killing the power just over 6200rpm
Option of launching with up to 3,700 revs with launch control (and 4,500 for the R32 boys, which must be handy )
There are other companies who are developing DSG remaps, HPA, Revo etc, but they will find it hard to better unless you are able to customise the settings yourself with a handheld programmer
Even though it is damp out I can tell the difference. I reckon it is good for probably 0.3 to 0.4 off the standing quarter :jumping:
Honestly, if you have a DSG and want to get the best from it, a DSG remap (whoever you choose to do it) is an absolute must have
Roll on my Quaife arriving now to knock a few more portions off the QTR mile.

If this had been around when I was speccing my GTI, then I would have definitely gone for DSG!!
Very exciting modification! You must take me for a spin in your car one day John so that I can feel it!

wherein the car/ how do they program the DSG box

WOW, look forward to seeing and feeling this!
Your on the stock clutch still then - no new clutch packs or anything yet? Sorry cant remember how far you got with it

:drinking: cheerio Mr Clutch :signLOL:
You must resist the temptation to use Mr launch control John!!.
Sounds awesome Mate, your car was fast enough before, let alone this mod!!.
LSD next..... . Test drive please!!, ill form an orderly cue

wherein the car/ how do they program the DSG box
It is programmed through the OBD port like the ECU tuning. Mine took a while to do as they didn't have my code for the box and so had to refer it to the USA which took a couple of days (USA west coast time differential doesn't help!). Once they had the code it literally took ten minutes to hook up and download the map into the mechatronics control unit. It doesn't affect your ECU map at all (you can have any engine map on the car...REVO, CC, GIAC, APR etc) and as long as your engine map has a higher rev limiter than the GIAC DSG map then it is fine. If you have a lower engine rev limiter (ie stock) you can still have the DSG remap modified to allow you to use it.
-
WOW, look forward to seeing and feeling this!

Yes, I'm still on the stock clutch. The GIAC site quote that the clutches are uprated to handle 500nm safely by the remap (don't ask me quite how, but I understand it is something to do with the oil pressure giving a higher clamping pressure on the clutch plates to reduce slip and give a more positive engagement).
All I know is that the car is more responsive and definitely more sprightly than before

Sounds very good mate, i am very tempted by this but am concerned about warranty if there was to be a fault with the dsg :scared:
-
Mine car is 2yrs and 2 months old, but I probably invalidated the warranty in the first six months with what has gone on the car.
I was always going to modify my car and so the warranty was of little concern to me from the offset. Once I'd had the car a few months and it was all running fine with the small niggles sorted by VW, I just set about the car and didn't worry about the warranty at all. If you are worried about the car's warranty then you do need to seriously think before modifying
-
Can this be done on a car thats not remapped John? :chicken:
-
Can this be done on a car thats not remapped John? :chicken:
Yes, I asked this at the time and they can do a modified map for OEM stock customers too. All they would have to do is ensure the engine limiter is higher than the GIAC DSG limiter :happy2:
-
Damn you John, Damn You :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:
-
What's the cost John?
-
What's the cost John?
I got a discount where I went as I had to pop back a few times (10%), £399 is the price normally (although it says £450 in the listings), but if you ask I'm sure you'll sort a small discount for asking wherever you go. :happy2:

glad u got it sorted mate, was a pain to get installed for me.. have been rather impressed so far though seen 110 in 3rd been out every night this week testing

I saw your piece on it when you first had it fitted. I came across the same USA-UK time issues you had :surprised:
It is addictive isn't it though listening to those 7k+ upshifts and pops

nice one Hurdy , Im very jealous
Reckon with this software update makes DSG the box to have :happy2: esp as it solves the clutch clamping load issues....
you coming to the SC meet , would be good to see how many extra gg's youve now got

Certainly is, had a boost gauge fitted same day and was spiking at 25psi and holding 20psi right up to c6800 rpm, then changes up and your at 4000rpm with 20psi and flying, love it :happy2:

I thought that the 25 slots were full anyway....plus some reserves too.
Not to mention the voyeurs and bourbon munchers

Sounds brilliant Hurdy, DSG changes are very quick standard, I can't imagine what they are like now :happy2: :happy2:

Glad to see you are happy with the DSG software John.. Good in it? But I wouldn't get to confident about taking 4/10th of your 1/4 mate. 1/10 will be about your lot I would say.. But that's not just what it is all about. The whole experience of all other features is spot on.. :happy2:
I reckon you have got a good 3-4/10ths to come of your time anyway John with a few more runs under your belt. From going out in the passenger seat it feels just as quick as mine..
-
Cheers Ben :happy2:
I think I will be able to get down into the 12's with the Quaife I've ordered and some R888's in tow :jumping:

Phoning up tomorrow to get a proper CAI  and to enquire about a decat for the Milly
GTI international should be interesting in the MKV category this year :innocent:
-
You still on the slope then mate? :signLOL: Look forward to seeing the old girl running at Brunters mate, especially with those new additions. What CAI you looking at EVOMS, Dbilas?
-
Definitely still on the slope  I seem to have hit a steep bit at the moment
I've gone for the EVOMS CAI. Just had confirmation that it should be arriving tomorrow. Ordered with the dry filter, sock and heatshield - so no MAF issues like the oiled filters can sometimes have :happy2:
Just put the Carbonio in the "For Sale" section.

I just hope it drowns out the sound of Leif GARRETT nearby on the 1/4 mile :signLOL:

I have an EVOMS heatsheild spare... damn, missed out on that one.

Any ideas if it's TDi DSG compatible?
-
The GIAC site only quotes R32 and 2.0TFSi, but there shouldn't be any reason why the remap wouldn't work with the TDI. The dealers can have custom ones written at the same cost and so lowering the gearchange limits shouldn't be a problem. :happy2:

Cool, thanks for the info - out of interest which GIAC dealer are you using as they sound pretty clued up. Fiancee has still got me 'looking' at TDi A3's as opposed to the more expensive to run GTi's, so it would be nice to know I can play with the DSG/S-tronic on one of those too - got to admit, a remap and a hybrid turbo for around £2k giving around 230-250bhp but retaining the economy and insurance group 11 is quite appealing (can't even consider a DSG TDi Mk5 as they only come in family size - aka 5dr)... Sorry for straying off topic! By the time I've sorted myself out hopefully the Revo one will be ready too. A Superchips one that uses the Bluefin handset would be nice as well.

I used Statller (Autorads) in Sheffield. :happy2:

This sounds like an interesting mod but wonder if its worth it without an engine remap as the power and torque in my std ED30 tails of at the red line (6.5k). My DSG if left to its own devices wont change up until 6.7k or 6.8k at which point you can feel the power tailing off but the rev limit for the engine has not been reached, this alows me to manually shift at 6.5k. Just for info does anyone know what he rev limit is for both engine and DSG on a std ED30 as I know Hurdy stated his shifted at 6.2k before the mod? If I was going for this I would go for and engine remap to make the most of it. For you guy's with these mods at what revs does the power and torque tail off?
Cheers,
Edi30

Your feeling the soft limiter engaging, that isn't the turbo falling off..
The car will pull strong to 7200rpm no probs.. A lot of it is in the engine tuning too, most of the tuners out there dont remove the soft cut
-
Sorry Hurdy, I thought I'd posted a congrats post on here already but obviously not - congratulations and with the Quaife, it'ill be awesome. I'm not feeling bitter, twisted and left out at all with my crocked Ed30

Never even new it had a soft limiter, i like Edi thought it was the turbo running out of puff.

So does that mean with a DSG car that you need to have the DSG mapped and the ECU mapped with 'soft cut' removed to have a car that will pull a lot more strongly all the way to 7200 ? and if so which tuner offers 'both' and does this have a major impact on either DSG or Engine reliability ?
In other words, is it possible to have an car that's signifcantly better than a ED30 with just an ECU remap with 'soft cut' still in place by having two maps done and soft cut removed ??
sorry for the questions :rolleye:

There is a company that do all of that yes..

Excellent, who and how much ££ ?
and is it really that much of an improvement over a normal mapped Ed30 with soft cut still in place ?
Many thanks :happy2:

Your best off firing an email over to Revo..
Dont get too caught up in the soft cut issue that I said about.. This is more prominent on a DSG car as it starts to think about changing gear as it approaches the rev limit..

Mine is DSG though.

This sound awesome!! Im almost tempted to donate my place at Superships RR to see what the beast can do!!!! Almost
Would be nice to have a 7700K redline on a manual too, anyome know if this can be done with a remap?

Not sure what benefits you'd gain form having a 7700rpm redline on a K03 though mate..

Its pretty pointless on a K04 once your out of 1st..
But, with GT30 and bigger that is when it starts to work! The guys in the states are revving to 8500rpm now.. Should be over 9k later this year once some new trick valve train parts are released
-
Mine "only" has a 7,200 limit. Plenty for me though
It means I can drop out from a mere 7k revs, slap bang into the middle of the power band :innocent:
1st to 2nd only though  keeping it legal. :rolleye:
There may also be another DSG tuner coming into the fray too :innocent:

Hi Fraindog and welcome to the forum.
There are several US posting on You Tube with the DSG. These are shots of the HPA and GIAC DSG remaps and mainly concentrate on the rev counter. One or two do show the speedo as well.
Suffice to say that the DSG remap is well worth it for the money if you have a modified Edition 30. The benefits for the standard K03 turbo'd GTI are less pronounced, but still give you swifter shifts. 8)

I was at Regal Autosport yesterday for the Giac DSG software, and I've gotta say if you have a DSG with a remap this should be the first thing you should be spending your money on (you need the map to get 7000rpm+), Hurdy is 100% right, I cant think of a better way to improve the cars performance for the money.
Looking forward to getting deep into the red on the next trackday and some sprints at Brunters, see you there John, side by side??? :happy2:

Excellent Neil,
Great to see someone who can at last echo my sentiments on the DSG remap.
