Just seen that cisse goal  :congrats: :notworthy:

I can not believe how much bend he gets on the ball, incredible stuff. In my opinion it's between that goal and the crouch goal against city for goal of the season :happy2:

Great result for Spurs tonight. I like Bolton but I can't help but feel that tonight was it for them. I'd have preferred them over Wigan to stay up, but it looks like the great escape again for the Latics.

It's strange because when Wigan put their minds to it they play some really nice football, maybe the Spanish influence. They only start playing with about 5 games to go though!

That's why I'm always really surprised when Martinez is linked with high-profile clubs. As they've proved, they can beat top clubs and play great football, but why leave it until you've got 10 games to save yourselves?!

I am the proud owner of Exeter City FC (well im a trust member, we are a trust owned club, so therefore i own a football club)

we are on our way down to league 2 :sad1: but we will get the chance to beat bitter rivals plymouth argyle, get to meet up again with aldersh*t, hopefully torqueer and oxford and brissel rovers so TBH thats more fun than beating Leeds utd (2-0 at home) sheff Wed (5 yes FIVE-1 at home, and 2-1 at hillsbrough) Chalton 3-1 away, oh and we sent argyle down last season, now that my friends was a great day, they took the piss bigtime when we went down to the BSP with chants of "we'll never play you again" well we have a new one " we're sent you down, we sent you dowwwwn, plymouth argyle, we sent you down :signLOL:

one of the most meaningful goals we have scored
&feature=related

and then this in the game we sent them down

that goal was followed up by this at sheff wed to win the game 2-1

all in all league 1 has so many happy memorys for me

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
YOU'LL NEVER WALK, ALONE!

They are both very similar, in the sense that they were both only aiming to get their shot on target, so on that basis Cisse had a lot more work to do due to his position on the pitch. Crouch just swung his gangly legs at the ball!

I'm not biased towards Cisse, but I am quite anti-Crouch. I think he's a bloody terrible player to watch and he fouls ALL the time.

Goal of the season has got to be one of  van persies 2 volleys. Think one was against Everton? To shoot with that much control on the ball when it's flying over your shoulder, is world class.

So who do you think should get Manager of the Season then?

I can't think of anyone who deserves it more than Alan Pardew. Newcastle were relegation candidates, andf he has taken them to the brink of Champions League football, and made some inspired signings along the way. Fair play to him and Newcastle.

I think Pardew's has to get it, not only to get where they are but the fact people thought it would fizzle out after 15 games or so. He's done well to prolong the challenge and if they get champions league football then that's just unbelievable. Where did they finish last season incidentally?

He does have a taste for the spectacular, mr crouch

Henderson is shocking, but Downing and Spearing have been very poor too. I do think Chelsea are going to tire here (ha, Drogba has just scored!)

Well, you never know. Well done boys!!

Well, as someone who doesn't follow football or have a favourite English team, I enjoyed this FA Cup Final as a match. Wnen Liverpool fought they fought hard and got better as the game progressed. Chelsea did what it takes though and so deserved the win, imo.

What I don't understand is why on earth don't football games use the same technology that Wimbledon Tennis does for line calls? - i'm thinking of that Liverpool shot on the goal mouth line which bounced off the bar.

Would already have goal line technology if it wasn't for that prat, Sepp Splatter. I'm sure he does the things he does because he hates the English

I've got to say, I hope Blackburn go down today. Their fans have been an utter disgrace all season. They're in a desperate predicament tonight, a loss would see them get relegated, and their fans decide the time is right for another protest. Why do they think that is appropriate? Wouldn't getting behind your team, being the 12th man not be more useful. It's as if they want to go down.

And although you have to applaud the clubs owners for sticking being Kean, they aren't actually at the game this evening. Do they care?

As a Liverpool fan have no complaints as I dont think you could expect the ref or linesman to say that had gone is as camera's were inconclusive.

You cant give Chelsea a 2 goal start and then start to play and hope to win - even though we could quite easily have won it in that last 30 minutes as apart from the 2 goals Chelsea created no other shots on target.

I would have dropped Henderson and played Kuyt on the right with Bellamy up front with Suarez, and let Gerrard sit deeper with Spearing trying to contain Mata , Lampard and Mikel.

Our game plan failed in first half because Spearing and Henderson do not possess the quality/experience to cope with the quality of Chelsea's midfield, which meant Gerrard had to drop so deep that he was miles away from Suarez.

No disrespect to Norwich, but just because this plan worked to great effect against them does not mean it would work against a team as solid and experienced as Chelsea!

If we had Alonso and Mascherano instead of Spearing and Hendeson we would have won, but that sums up our team at present - Rafa gets criticised but some of the players we had in a few years ago are far better than what FSG have brought in - Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Crouch, even Arbeloa

Berg, I agree with u fully.
After that first 60 minutes display we didn't deserve anything.  Drogba's goal was quality, but their 1st goal had 3 catastrophic errors from Spearing, Enrique and Reina - a Sunday league pub side would have prevented that goal!!
You mention our old midfield, Alonso and Mascherano - with Gerrard one of the best in the world at the time!!
I'd take Benitez back in a heartbeat, he never had any backing whatsoever from Hicks and Gillett and in the last few years had to sell to buy.  The Robbie Keane and well as a few other deals had nothing to do with him.  Dalglish was a great manager in the past, but I think his style of play is behind the times.   :sad1:

Jussa - yeah would rather be forward thinking and not go back to Rafa but I do think he is a more tactically astute manager than Kenny and would attract better players and get us competitive agin for trying to get in the top 4.

We have to be realistic - we should either give Kenny one more season, bring Rafa back now or bring in someone else who is better than both of them but who would that be who would actually want the job bearing in mind no CL? I really am torn in one way I think Kenny should be allowed one more season see how he gets on on the other hand I think go now - you have steadied the ship and won the league cup.

Just been looking at Premier Leauge Table. Did you Liverpool fans realise that your nearer in points to the bottom club than you are to the top club! Incredible, 34 points behind the Manc' clubs but only 27 points above Wolves. You really have got to have a clear out, Carroll must go and sack that Dalglish twat otherwise you will be in the Championship at this rate.

Years ago when they used to be a big club there's no way they would have been happy with mediocrity!! Used to worry about playing Liverpool, now you turn and an easy 3 points.

Not in the slightest. In fact most NUFC fans I know and have spoken to think European football has came far too soon and could in fact become a hindrance to our League push next year. The question being asked is "where to next?" because most fans realise we have probably overachieved this season.

The difference between us and the Manchester clubs is huge, that was more than evident on Sunday. In fact in terms of set up, squad size etc we're behind most of the top 10.

I don't see what your point is? There isn't a Newcastle fan who could claim to have been happy with Pardew's appointment, but then there was no reason to be. I'd imagine many people outside Newcastle also questioned his appointment. He doesn't have a great track record and if you remember, he replaced Chris Hughton who was extremely well liked. Pardew has proved himself.

The person who is deluded is Kenny Dagleish, who can't seem to accept that his Premiership season has been flawed.

Well if you can keep your squad together and ward off interest for Cisse and Ba and make a couple of astute signings, we might struggle to catch you next season too! Our defence is better than yours I would say but our midfield has been so poor compared to Cabaye and Ben Arfa, and Ba and Cisse have obviously performed better than Suarez/Carroll.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is madly excited by the Europa League. The schedule is so intensive it can do more harm than good.

There aren't really any clear cut games, Spurs have Fulham, and Arsenal are away to West Brom. But saying that, I don't think we'll beat Everton away from home.

We (Spurs) are playing Fulham at home on Sunday. Keep looking at the table and PRAYING that we win. Obviously hope the Arse lose badly and then it won't matter what Chelski do in the final. Can't be doing that Thusday night bol**cks again.

my ideal scenario then would be for us to finish a mighty 7th (whoooo) spurs and arsenal to lose, newcastle to win, city to win, united to lose and chelski to lose in the CL final.

not asking for much then

The final could go either way, although I would put my money on Bayern winning it in extra time by 2 goals to 1.

Personally I'm just happy that Liverpool FINALLY found "some" form and annihilated a very poor Chelsea side last night.
I for the first time this year actually enjoyed watching us play, none of that boring passing amidst the defence and then back to the keeper  :drinking:

We will be back PROVIDING they do actually build us a new ground as there is no doubt that "fortress (sic)" Anfield is holding us back and they do continue to invest in better players (cant be hard to sign better players than Adam, Henderson and Downing can it? Hoilett, Dempsey and Sinclair?)

Yes and no becuase the day out at wembley when you win is great but playing n Europe's premier competition is more important financially

It's not like we have not won anything in the last 20 years is it (40+ for city) not counting the FA cup which has over the last few years been 3rd in importance for most top clubs.

I think a draw for City and a late winner for united will be ok (preferably in the 92nd minute so City dont have time to reply)  :signLOL:

Bottom line is I dont mind them winning nothing, if it makes the board spend money in the next 1-2 years getting schneider in and getting mourinho to manage us and bring Ronaldo back with him, on that basis I am happy to have no trophies for this and the next season  :happy2:.

Who knows what will happen, hopefullly we will sign a few players in the summer.

I have to agree with the Hoilett, Dempsey and Sinclair I'm not overly too sure about.
Henderson is like Lucas, I think he will do fantastically if given the chance next season

Aye he is a bit of a muppett, but no one can say he ain't world class  :signLOL:, It is common knowledge that fergie will do another season and that mourinho is his most likely successor, possibility of bringing ronnie back with him, good I think!.

That should certainly help you climb back up to the top of list for most w4nkers at a football club and dominate the domestic d1ckheads table for sometime !  :P

Yeah I think it is to soon to write off Henderson, but it does not help playing him on the right. Either play him in the middle or leave him on the bench!

Where do you stand on giving Kenny another season/bringing Rafa back/bringing in A.N other?

It's a tough one about Kenny... he's an absolute legend but looking how we have performed this year in the season is just absolutely crap.
We played some absolutely fantastic football when he first returned, and its now recently returned Woy's boring defensive play which just isn't good enough.

Personally I reckon it would be best to evaluate his position after Christmas. See how he stands on his own two feet without having to work with Comolli on transfer's, that way we will know whether the lack of form this season was a result of Comolli not being too smart with signings or if it was actually the king

Congrats to Man sh*tty on scoring the Prem league winning goal on 94.54 seconds, as a United fan it pains me to say it, so well done................but there are 4 silver linings to "My" team not winning it!!

1. Liverpool losing at Swansea  :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:, well they played like they did most of the season, CRAP!!  :happy2:, even better is watching them finish below Everton  :signLOL:

2. And more importantly I placed a bet at the local William Hill bookies on August 12th (Might have been 13th, it was the friday befire season started) last year for Man City to win the league at 6-1, and on my way home from my Golf comp today I picked up my £700 winnings  :signLOL: :signLOL: :signLOL:, I HATED to back a team other than my own and its a bitter pill to swallow seeing City "Doing a United" and grabbing a last 6 seconds winner, but that £700 felt quite nice in my pocket. I already placed my £100 bet for United to bounce back next season and win it  :happy2: :happy2: happy days indeed! (yes I did feel like a traitor! for this season, but feel I backed the right team next season, Blue Moon rising?, we shall see in the next 20 years   )

3. Our team came second in our golf comp and I won both the longest drive (367yds) and nearest the pin (5 feet) :happy2: :happy2:

4. Newcastle missed out on 4th as a better team (Spurs) got in  :happy2:, now Newcastle are in the Uefa league (at the moment anyway, if chelski win CL final spurs will get Uefa and Newcastle nowt!) that means they will probably play about 70 games next season so they will likely finish about 11th

Sad  :sad1: and happy days  :happy2: together

Can't wait for next season, its time to smash the City!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me, I've had every possible scenario covered.

For the record though, should Chelsea win (and here's hoping) the Europa place that Spurs would be awarded is an additional one and doesn't effect any other teams.

Its a "GAME" chaps   :stupid:, I am no longer a supporter who gets upset at losing or mopes about until the new season (life is too short), the game carries on, If I can take "Solace" in winning money off the back of another team winning with a shrewd bet then why not?

Not sure about most folks, but it comes to me laying a Bet, I generally bet on who I think WILL win, I do NOT bet on who I would WANT to win  :stupid:

Spurs man here!!
Well, it was a HE'LL OF A DAY for all of us. I was watching 3 Sky Sports Channels are boy that was exciting. For me personally I wanted the Arse and to lose (and Spurs win) but all said and done to finish forth is something to be proud of this season for us.
Being English and a supporter of football I would like Chelsea to win CL BUT as a Lillywhite I want them to lose, would love to be back at the Lane on those Tuesday/Wednesday evenings entertaining the greatest club teams in the world.
Oh and checked my Bet365 account and after all the bets I placed on various outcomes from the season I think I am £2 up! Better stick to the day job!!

I am a Tottenham fan and I can tell you this , if we had won the Leauge after 51 years (in our case) I would be milking it for all it's worth and all my friends, none of who are Lillywhites, would not hear the end of it until next season. the 'word' seems to be that they were not keen on kenny from the start. however given 5 months to prove himself he did very well, and with the supporters backing he was hard to overlook.

I find it ridiculous how many times the manager gets the chop for underperforming players. find me another manger that has won the PL with 2 different clubs and won as much as he has as a player.

Spot on with everything you say there BUT Liverpool have had the funds for big purchases and have still managed their worst Leauge position in 20 something years.
I am not a Liverpool supporter but those that are must be pulling their hair out in frustration, yes the players have under performed and many are not good enough for any Premier Leauge club let a loan a so called "big club" such as Liverpool but it all comes down from the manager, who they buy, who plays, what formation, what tactics blah blah blah and keeping Dalglish because of past achievements is wrong, only my opinion.

Yep... based on recent results, the team performances were not good enough. The manager is always responsible for their signings. He propably got longer than most, simply down to the fact that many expected there players to do better.

However a manager that has won the championship 4 times, and done it with 2 different clubs does command some respect. Its just a shame that it seems to come from the fans, rather than to a few so-called footballers whom he signed and handed contracts worth millions of pounds. I think FSG had other ideas from day 1.. I dont think it will take them long to name a replacement.

However if they get this wrong  :scared:

I'm all for staying with the same manager and at the end of the season take stock and go from there. I think the days are long gone where a club (or it's supporters) sticks with their manager if results are not what's expected or anticipated.
Look at my team, Spurs, before "the Legend that is Harry" came along we went through managers at an alarming rate. No manager is ever given the time to build a team over 2,3 or 4 years.
For example - Everton have no money at all and every year they stay up (usually with no problem) and it's down to the SAME manager, they don't get scared mid season and sack him, they put their faith in him and it's paid off. Look at Wolves, sack Mick and they went down, not saying they would have stayed up with him but it's the stability and continuity that the same person brings that helps.

Disgusted that Kenny has been fired.

The players need to take a long hard look in the mirror. A lot of their individual performances across the whole season have been woeful. It's not the Liverpool way to sack someone so soon, and to do it to a man who forms Liver Bird scabs when he gets a cut is shameful. I'm so angry that he hasn't been given a proper length of time to get it right. They won't spend big this summer, so we won't attract a top-line manager to replace Kenny.

And to top it all off, John Terry is going to the Euro's, and the family member victim of his disgusting racial abuse has been dropped. Form and Injury reasons, my a*se. And Crouch has been far too good to get in the squad. I'm not watching any England games, they'll be knocked out in the group stages.  :fighting: :fighting:

Downing in the squad. He's been sh1t all season. :surprised:

Carroll I can understand because he is something different upfront and has just started to find a bit of form.
Defoe can always get a goal.

The biggest joke is that henderson is a reserve and not Carrick.

And I'm with you on the whole terry thing, he doesn't deserve to go 'cause of what he's done and he's nowhere near as good as he once was.

Be good to see oxlade-chamberlain given a go  :happy2:

Hope it's a case of picking the right players for the best team rather than just picking the 'best'players and fitting them in.

France 2 England 1 (John Terry sent off for head-butt)
Ukraine 1 England 1 (John Terry sent home for sh*gging someone's wife)
Sweden 0 England 0 (John Terry arrested for racial abuse and homophobic comments towards airline steward)

Interesting to see the people Liverpool are being linked with for the Manager position. I think Martinez would be a massive mistake. I really don't understand why people rate him. Seems Brendan Rogers has ruled himself out, a massive signal of loyalty to Swansea (or does he think the Liverpool job is a poisoned chalice?).

Also bizarre that after rumours they may be interested in Pardew a lot of Liverpool fans are still claiming Newcastles position was due to a mixture of luck and skewed results making them look better than they really are, citing that we didn't win important games. We beat Man United 3-0 at home, we beat Liverpool at home, and we beat Chelsea away from home immediately after taking a hiding from a resurgent Wigan.

You won't hear any of that bitter jealousy from me Andrew, I think Newcastle have been superb. Pardew has created a great team unity, and his work in the transfer market has been inspired. Ba and Cisse are two of the best signings of the last few seasons. I'd love to see either of those at Anfield.
I'd still love to see Martin O'Neill as manager.

No. Please, no. He was dire at Inter, and his best days as a manager are behind him. Martin O'Neil, Johan Cruyff or Jurgen Klinsmann are realistic targets that would bring a great style of football with the ability to attract top players. Pep Gaurdiola is totally unrealistic, but fair play to Liverpool for sounding him out!

Im sorry carnt see guardiola at chelsea, he just isnt gonna leave barca for a break then join chelsea a few weeks later. I mean chelsea, one of the most boring teams in english football.... come on :rolleye:

I wouldnt be surprised if he had a year out and joined Arsenal and Wenger goes upstairs, they need a freshen up their imo. Wenger has done a great job but hes becoming slightly deluded with everything and has lost sight of whats important and thats winning trophies and is fast making arsenal a feeder club. Arsenal suites guardiola, defo not chelsea when roman and the senior players pick the team :stupid:

Liverpool fans are about as deluded as the toon fans! We all know there attituded when pardew took over and now look, he nearly got them into the CL. AVB would be a good shout, because lets not forget the only reason he didnt do well at chelsea is because the senior players turned the dressing room against him because he left them out. Give him some cash and the fans behind him and he could build a good young team their. Certainly better than "king" kenny who spent £100m and finished 8th and bought Carrol for £35m and he clearly doesnt fit into the team in any way. Stoke is the perfect team for that lanky long haired plonker not liverpool or England for that matter :stupid:

My point is fans of these clubs are too quick to give a manager sh*t before he has even had a chance. The toon idiots wanted shearer and got pardew, spat there dummies out and then nearly got into the CL. Liverpool lot want a big name like pep, they arnt gonna get him so will give whoever comes in sh*t and I do hope he goes on to do good things just to shove it to them like pardew did with the toon muppets.

This games got penalties written all over it and we know ze Germans are not to be messed with when it comes to pens.

I hope he's half as good as Pardew in the transfer market! Hopefully he'll have a big clear out and get rid of the headless chicken and Charlie Adam, who has been sh1te. Several others I'd get shot of as well. How well he does depends on who he can lose, and how much he gets for new players. I think he'll bring an attractive style of play though.

I hope he's half as good as Pardew in the transfer market! Hopefully he'll have a big clear out and get rid of the headless chicken and Charlie Adam, who has been sh1te. Several others I'd get shot of as well. How well he does depends on who he can lose, and how much he gets for new players. I think he'll bring an attractive style of play though.

i wish i was that optomistic

Now hopefully the transfer slag that is Eden hazard has finally finished his ego trip and announced where he's going, we will hear no more from him this summer? Or is that too much to ask!

Meh. To be fair I'd choose a London club over a Manchester club. People are bemused that he hasn't chosen United or City but who knows who else Chelsea are targeting this summer. He could have been given some pretty exciting reassurances.

Fair point, the thing that's confused me is that Chelsea don't have a manager, it's just another example of abramovich trying to be manager! Infact why doesn't he just name himself and cut out the middle man.

I'm glad the hazard saga is over, really annoying everyday waking up everyday to listen non stop to that twonk. what kind of club allows a player to announce his transfer on twitter after publicly pimping himself. I'd have pulled out if I were in charge of the teams involved. I couldn't imagine fergie putting up with him nor Mancini having another ballotelli on his hands.

Chelski = Big wages and assurances of playing regularly in an ageing team which will get rebuilt buy the 10th manager.

City = Big wages and be a bit part player in  team full of Ego's

Arsenal/Tottenham - Can't afford his wages/demands

United = Would be nice to have to him to replace Scholes, but if he is only in it for the money, meh, we need a motivated player, not a wages slag  :happy2:

His quote of "I am joining a champions league winner in the premiership" still leaves it 50/50 for United or Chelski (Actually its 66.6/33.3 )

And for all the hype it sounds like Shinji Kagawa might be the better buy!

Quote
Eden Hazard: 192 apps, 50 goals and 30 assists. Shinji Kagawa: 198 apps, 86 goals and 45 assists. In a better league.

Obertan

Alan Smith
Jordi Cryuff
Anderson
Forlan
Bellion

Fergie isnt as great in the transfer market as you may think, but agree most clubs have just as long of list of players that have failed or flopped

Disagree with Alan Smith, he did well for 2 seasons, Anderson has good and bad days, Forlan was a great striker but could not adapt to english game, Bellion I dont remember and Berbatov does not suit United's game, no doubting he is a quality player tho.

He has the makings of a good manager, their inability to "Boss" games was probably due to them lacking 2 or 3 key players, at Liverpool with the style of play he uses it should go down well at Liverpool.

I think, as a Liverpool fan, we have to be realistic.

If you appoint Martinez, Rodgers or Lambert all are an equal risk. Rodgers less so because he coached under Mourinho and to be fair they plated good football all season whereas Wigan were sh*te for 3/4 of it.

If you look at wanting a young manager the only other candidate who might come was AVB. Is he more or less of a risk than Rodgers? That is debatable as Chelsea players thought he was awful yet he had a european pedigree.

I am ok with the appointment because people who thought Pep might come are deluded - he might fancy a challenge, but not that much of a challenge  :chicken:

If it is to work Rodgers has to be given time and the support of the board and the fans, the liverpool team at the moment is average at best and it wont be turned around in a summer of transfers. Hes gonna need at least two seasons, remember the competition for the top four in the prem is at its highest ever, i just hope the liverpool board realise this.

I think hes a quality manager and likes his team to play attractive football unlike the chavs who are anti football in every way :fighting: :indifferent: :indifferent: :indifferent:

I also hope guardiola stays well clear of the them and there dirty oil money

Also Spain or Holland to win the euros. England are so poor its embarrasing to even wear and England shirt at the moment, they have so little idea of what to actually do with the football its like there completely brain dead <----- this has absolutely nothing to do with the manager, its the players and it always has been.

For the first time in al my years I really couldnt give a flying monkeys about England and the sooner we get knocked out the better. Maybe then we can move on, clear out the 30 something's and start a fresh with the young talent.

Makes me very sad to see our national team played by wife beating, wife swapping, biggoted, prostitute using thugs, who appear to be fully paid up members of the BNP, at least they will fit in well in Polish hooligans.

Oh and Rodgers is a good manager, good luck with that poison chalice mate!!

I think the reason for him departing is pretty obvious. They had a massive dip in form which coincided with his very public flirtation with the England job and consequently cost them top level European football next season. As an employers I'd be pretty pissed off too.

I personaly think he was forced out because of the incident with the tax man and thats why he also was not even considered for the england job.

Yes he was cleared but if you read up on some of the stuff he came out with to get cleared, you'll soon see why he wasnt even offered a contract extension even though he did very well at Spurs.

The guys a fraud, he claimed he was completely computer illiterate, couldnt use a mobile phone properly, didnt know what emails were and didnt even know he'd set up an offshore bank account :stupid:

Think about it for a second, hes a good manager and yet hes been completely discarded by both spurs and england. Theres a good reason for that hes a fraudster!

You're forgetting that Demba Ba was a nobody before he joined us. No one else would take him on. It's OK saying now that the clause was a mistake but it might have been the only way to secure a deal. Besides, he wasn't exactly pivotal to our success in the second half of the season so IF we do lose him we'll manage. There are at least half a dozen players I'd be more worried about losing.

I thought Young played a good defensive game.

On the whole it was a frustrating game though. Bring on Italy.

Ok we are no Spain but we are well organised and the ball that crossed the line the guy was offside in the build up and there other good chance was miles offside, lino needed to wake up me thinks :stupid:

Agree young hasnt been good enough going forward and milner is useless other than that we are ok, just ok.

Italy next :popcornsoda:

Hi - bit better as you say at times in the second half.  We can only improve!  Need all our forwards to start looking more dangerous and threatening.

We just need Hart and Lescott to wind up their mate Balotelli and we'll soon be playing against 10 men..

offside if you ask me lol

thought they were rubbish and ukraine were the better side. milner has been very poor, gerrard hasn't been great. the defence have been pretty solid though, especially with parker just in front.

can't seem to keep the ball for more than a few passes.

needs walcott or the ox instead of milner. young will be alright just needs to be given the ball. rooney definately needed that game

With the money at stake these days football should be leading the way but to much technology will ruin the game. Goal line tech is needed but the worry is if we use it for that, then people will want it for penalties, handballs, free kicks and it will never end. Before long you will have stop  start   stop   start    stop    start.

If it improves the flow of the game or doesnt interfere with the flow of the game and decisions are correct then im all for it. <----- This is the most important thing above all else.

I see your point about not interrupting the flow. Tennis involves less players and stops don't really disrupt the game.
Title: Re: *****FOOTBALL THREAD*****
Post by: RobH on June 20, 2012, 06:46:45 pm
Yep thats why it works well in cricket and American football and to a certain extent rugby. Theres already to many free kicks given by officials for soft fouls having to go to a video ref will mean more delays.

Its all about momentum in football, getting the fans behind you and building up pressure on the other team leading to them making a mistake. Teams already brake up play with fouls to hinder that. Italy are the past masters of it, you will see that when england play them this weekend, if england can actually string some passes together that is.

Yes it was over the line and yes it was offside, but then rooney's shirt being pulled in the box is another area they need to look at (not just Rooney) but all shirt grabbing, once they give a few penalties hopefully it will put a stop to it, although as most footballers struggle to remember their own name I doubt they will remember not to pull opposing players shirts in the box!  :signLOL:

yes... i think they should all be made to wear global hypercolour t-shirts so we can all see where the holding has been going on. Or just create a super stretch shirt OR one that tears when pulled (this of course should be trialed in the womens football world cup just to ensure it works...  :jumpmove:

....An excellent idea!

Even more effective might be to trial body painted 'shirts' in women's football. The body paint will smudge where handled and as a bonus save the cost of shirts.

The Germans have been far too teutonically arrogant and desrved to lose.

The Spanish fancy triangular passing, though skilled, is tedious and can spoil a game.

So I want the Italians to win on Sunday. They were great last night.

We can't have been watching the same game, never to worry though, ETTO.

Was not bothered who won so went with Spain to win and they won that in 2nd gear. Italy seemed chuffed to have made the final so not too bad for them really. Knowing Italian football players these days I imagine they all made a few quid from the result!

Spain were on another level to Italy.

It seemed to me that all Spain were doing was to let Italy do a hell of a lot of running round. Then they took advantage of the tired legs.

Chielini was crap.....as was de Rossi.

Pierlo as usual did most of the work  :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Crazy Balotelli  :stupid: is amazing but just didn't receive the ball like in the Germany game.

Motta going off was the last straw.

I disagree with the comments about the Primera Liga, tbh its a 2 horse race and has been for many years (you may as well watch the scottish prem league  :indifferent:), Barcelona funded by fans/local businesses versus Real Madrid funded by the government, far too much diving and play acting (triple rolls whilst holding your face when someone just brushed against you  :fighting:, it's lame, then you wave the "imaginary card" and when the opposing player is booked your suddenly up and sprinting away ), there are only 2 matches worth watching, Real Vs Barca and Barca vs Real, I will stick with the premiership where at least 3 or 4 teams have a chance of winning and most teams can win against the top teams on a good day!.

I think Leon will do well there, good luck to him. By all accounts it sounds like Blackburn are building a sound Championship side.

Sounds like we're bargaining hard for Luke De Jong. Apparently they're after £14m for him. The most Ashley has paid for a player was £10m (Colo).

So, rumours that Newcastle want Andy Carroll back and have had a loan proposal knocked back. I've got to say, I find the prospect pretty exciting, if a little unrealistic. This has all the hallmarks of Ashley rocking the boat, messing with Carroll's head and getting him to initiate a transfer request, enabling us to get him back for a steal. That of it's very clever diversion tactics while he off loads one of our key players.

It is also a very good way to get Liverpool fans and players speculating, thus causing dressing room and terrace unrest for the reds. I have no doubt it's not just the Toon who want Andy, I reckon a few clubs will be in with requests very soon.

I'd guess you're right. The transfer window hasn't really got going yet. Give it a week or two.

The Walcott to Liverpool rumour is also quite interesting. I find it hard to believe that he's thrown his toys out because of the RvP saga and would be prepared to go to Liverpool.

I think he would suit Liverpool's style of play but I also think Man Utd could sneak in a bid for him not just because they may want him but just so none of the other 'top clubs' get him.....remember the Owen Hargreaves saga? Bought merely so no one else could get him......

I'm learning that there's rather more to football than just kicking a ball around.

What would happen if all football teams could only be made up of players who lived within 50 miles of the club? Or at least were born in the UK. Would it be good or bad for the game?

What chance an Olympic Gold then??

Great Britain are playing their only pre Olympic friendly on Friday evening, against Brazil at the Riverside (live on BBC 1), could be a lesson in the beautiful game.

Still not sold on the idea of highly paid professional football stars being in the Olympics but as most of the other athletes, tennis players, basketball players are multi millionaires, why not I suppose.

Great Britain men's football squad:

Jack Butland (Birmingham),
Jason Steele (Middlesbrough);
Rayan Bertrand (Chelsea),
Steven Caulker (Tottenham),
Craig Dawson (West Brom),
Micah Richards (Manchester City),
Neil Taylor (Swansea),
James Tomkins (West Ham);
Joe Allen (Swansea),
Tom Cleverley (Manchester United),
Jack Cork (Southampton),
Ryan Giggs (Manchester United),
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal),
Danny Rose (Tottenham),
Scott Sinclair (Swansea);
Craig Bellamy (Liverpool),
Marvin Sordell (Bolton),
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea).

Is Brazil back up their usual magical standard then? I haven't watched them for ages and they were a bit disappointing in the last World Cup.

Their fans are nice eye-candy though:

"As of Mar 31 we had total indebtedness of £423.3m..increases risk that we may be unable to generate cash sufficient to pay amounts due."

Oh good, that means some Arab Oil Sheik might see an opportunity and buy the club for £800m (Getting rid of the Glazers) and throw another £300m on new players, we might even get £500m for naming rights for the ground and various car parks.

Have you supported Man Utd all your life then?

Yup, since I was 5, my mum was an Man U fan (my dad being from north London supported Arsenal) and she used to work United in marketing/sales, she met 3 Utd managers while she was there (Big Ron and Fergie, I think the other was Dave Sexton, can't remember off top off my head, she left in 94'.

Had lots of signed united shirts/boots/scarves/footballs when I was younger (From 83' to 94'), they were all auctioned off for the charity for the condition that my mate died of in 95'.

I distinctly remember most of my mates at school supporting Liverpool and Tottenham (Glory seekers you call it today!), they don't bother giving me grief about being a "Glory Seeking" United fan as they know I was supporting them when they were an average team in the 1st division when I was younger, also being from Manchester helped!

^^^^ Cracking performance by the young man, if he continues in this form Birmingham will be minus a kepper for next season. If he gets noticed it could generate some much needed cash for Birmingham. We could do with another keeper at Spurs come to think of it.

Hi MV, I am a liverpool fan but not seen any of match yet but I hear we were poor?

Tbh, not happy with owners letting Carroll go on loan and not bring anyone in  :fighting:

We had a small squad anyway so how are we meant to cope if Suarez or Borini get injured? Down to Sterling and young Adam Morgan... nuts.

I hope the new American owners are just steadying the ship re wages but surely they could have gone to £6million for Dempsey after unloading Adam and Carroll's and Spearing's wages??  :stupid:

I don't class Suarez as an out and out striker.

Liverpool were very poor, Gerard had a stinker, the new fella "Hasan?" was poor too, Shelvey came on a livened it up but soon got booked and that quietened him down again, Suarez was average.

Arsenal were solid at the back (again) Cazorla lit up midfield in certain moments and was man of match, Podolski was looking more like the player he was before joining arsenal, giroud could not hit a barn door at 20 feet

Can never have enough about football...

Gerrard had a poor game, reina was poor too. I dont think enrique will be starting the next game.

I would like to add... you are 2-0 down. 20mins to go... and you get brought on... what do you think the manager would like you to do???? (a question for sthitward downing)

on a positive note, allen had another good game. and sterling looks like he can offer 90mins on a regular basis for now.  :happy2:

RVP seems to be settling just fine (4 goals in 190 mins  :notworthy:), CM looked OK to me (More worried about the wings as Valencia and Nani both look crap currently), it was the defence that was really crap, altho tbf little Rafael stood no chance with that big Oaf climbing all over him

We still have Chicharito and Wellbeck should anything happen to RVP, as for him being a sell out I think he spoke to the manager every year about how they intended to progress and nowt happend, typical they should splash the cash once he leaves (once they cashed in!).

I still fancy Chelski for the title this season, defensively good, goals from all positions and ability to score freely, if southampton and Liver-Poo can score 2 against City I dont rate their chances against the bigger/stronger teams

I strangly went with arsenal for the title before it all kicked off... so I am sticking with that. I think man u are lacking in midfield.... we will have to wait and see i guess.

p.s. he is not a sell out because he left, he is a sell out because of where he went  :fighting:

So if he had gone to City or Chelski for the wages only to sit on the bench every other match he would NOT have been a sell out?  , I think the fact he went to United when other teams were offering higher wages (much higher in the case of City and other european teams) shows he is moving for football anf family life reasons not personal gain, but ETTO i guess.

I think between Kagawa, Cleverley, Scholes, Giggs, Anderson, Young, Nani, Valencia, Carrick, Fletcher (still not fit), Powell and a couple of junior members we will be OK in MF.

Arsenal only have 8 midfielders fit, but I dont see them challenging for silverware this season, maybe next season once they have knitted together  :popcornsoda:

That seems to be the arsenal problem... just when they get a squad together their best players leave. Their first team when all fit, seems to be quite good though... they just need to make sure they are putting chances away.

Yeah, it was a decent game. You were rampant in the first 15, I thought Rooney was excellent. I felt pretty deflated after the game, but on reflection we didn't play too bad and with a more experienced back four we might not have conceded at least 1 of the first two goals.

Looks like Van Persie will get a three match ban for the elbow on Cabaye. Pretty pointless when you've won 3 - 0!

Depends on what happens with Everton. They're looking great at the moment but I wonder if their squad is strong enough to maintain their current performance right through the season. I guess they don't have any European distractions this season.

^^^^ very true regarding Everton. David Moyes works wonders with little money and a non star laden team. Can't see them sustaining this for a whole season with their squad.

AVB has not grown on me yet, would have been well chuffed had David Moyes been offered/accepted the job. I truly believe he willbe the next Man Utd manager, don't think the Special One will get it.

Whether its an elbow or not you can clearly see his arm unnaturally move to Cabayes face. I personally think Van Persie is a nasty piece of work. And before any Man U fans start defending him, just remember 6 months ago you were hurling abuse at him in an Arsenal shirt.

Either way the FA aren't doing anything about it, nor the Tiote and Huth stamps or the comical cheating of Suarez.

Suarez Van Persie Ba

Quite Chelsea heavy with 4 players but I reckon that team would take some beating at moment

Not a fan of Chelski but enjoy watching that little Mata chap, reminds me of Modric, I would replace Nolan with Bale, Suarez with Cisse or Berbatov (now he has decided to put some effort into his football, modern day matt le tissier IMO  :notworthy:). Like the rest of your team, as much as I think Cole is a retarded tw*t as a human being I must admit he's the best in his position in the world.

Yeah those Everton lads have played well but not as good as the ones mentioned imo, Fellaini been injured for a bit. Cant see how Cisse or Berbatov would get in ahead of Suarez? Probably Defoe or Tevez if not him.

Some players I expected to do well this season seem to have struggled - Papiss Cisse, Sessegnon, Aguero, Adebayor, Adam Johnson to name a few

That Lallana for Southampton looks quite good, QPR have been awful
