Title: 20" wheels
Post by: Gtiain on May 02, 2012, 11:06:49 pm
Has anyone got 20" wheels on their gti? Is it impossible? I've seen a lot of nice Bentley wheels but they all seem to be 20".

It is very possible. With the change in tyre size down to a 225/30/R20 the overall size will be the same as my 225/35/R19 or standard 225/40/R18  :happy2:

The width and the offset are important though.

A good size to aim for would be 20x8J ET45.

Someone on the forum had some 20" on a Rocco (I think).

Heres a few. Don't know who these belong to....

It goes without saying that ride quality would be compromised, but how is the balance and performance of the car effected having such big wheels on?

presume performance wouldn't be great as those are heavy barstewardss, the lighter the better so 17s or light 18s for those more concerned with performance and no look, personally think light 18s are best compromise between performance and looks

.
The genuine Monza 18's weigh 11kg and my OZ Alleggerita 18's weigh 8kg - The difference in feedback is significant. Out of curiosity I wonder what both Bentley and Maybach 20's weigh.

Anyone considering 19's or 20's is surely primarily doing so for looks. Nothing wrong with that at all but it's going to effect the feedback and handling on the GTI platform.

My Bentleys are hideously heavy and the handling is definitely effected.
When i put the monza's back of for winter the car feels so much more alive again.

I like the look of 20's but only for show. Not sure I'd do it though!

RR, my 19" VMR 701's weight 11kg each which is the same as a stock Monza, so not lighter but not heavier either.  Defo went for looks though in my choice of alternative wheels.  :happy2:
