Been looking into changing my lower engine mount and have read it is a subframe off job, and that it also is possible to do it without needing an alignment.
What are peeps experience of this? Is it a hellish job?!
Isn't the steering rack mounted on the crossmember....sounds nasty!

Bump

are you wanting to change the full lower engine mount? i.e. the on in the subframe if so it needs pressing out/pushing out the old one and pushing in the new one
-
Thats the one - although will be changing it for a Vibratechnics job so will be easier to fit that an OE one.
Just wondered if anyone of us mortals had tackled it on a driveway with a jack and some axle stands!

Fair play to you for yet more DIY Jim

I did it recently but my mate has a two post lift in his garage so I cheated .
Can't see why you couldn't do it off axle stands as long as you can get your upper body comfortably under, and maybe enough room to crack of the bolts with a breaker bar.
I found it a right pain in the arse pressing the new ones in (OEM).

Cheers Mike! :happy2:
Its the actual removal of the subframe that bothers me, not the pressing in of the new one as I will be going for a Vibratechnics job anyway.
Thinking about getting some made up if I can fathom it all out - need a spare subframe to play with mind - some on ebay cheap enough.
