The really shocking thing is!

Cars done 272miles on a full tank and is just showing under half the tank, it says its range is another 130miles, that's pretty good going in my opinion?

The yellow one's alright too  :P  Was eying up the bonnet lifters on the super copa yesterday  :innocent: lol

I fitted the DD42 bushes (Well Alex fitted them) yesterday, make a nice difference. Did you have them on the Fr?

Alexs Sigma 6 linkage feels nicer still.

Was still around at 6 getting on half 6 Andrew but me & Sy were getting into divorce territory (with swmbo) so did risk messaging you as  we wouldve probably ended up with an AKS mini meet going on till late lol

I hate how the OEM Cupra R Gearbox feels, The gearstick throw is awful so i had some of my old FR TDI Parts fitted today

Forge Quick shifter
Forge Side to Side Shifter
42 Draft Design metal bushes

Car now feels how i think it should feel OEM, Feels very mechanical now

Engine cover off
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjj266%2Fbaz88icf%2F20120528_190031.jpg&hash=5931c431d71ce8d418a6cae8bf4dde3162f1ffdd)

Shifters+ Metal Bushes
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjj266%2Fbaz88icf%2F20120528_191531.jpg&hash=9d5363d09f34f008db5f464e4156efaea017a5fa)

IMHO all 6 Speed VAG owners should fit the Forge Quickshifter (about £70) and the 42DD Bushes (About £15), the side shifter IMHO is not worth the money (about £70)

Awesome GTI

Beware though there's problems fitting them to the Leon's they seem to have several different shifters so you might need to modify them slightly.

I had to file mine down abit

How does the FR compare to the derv? Love the yellow

FR TDI was 228bhp and 370lb.ft, it was stiff and low, very torquey

Cupra R OEM felt pants, ive now lowered her and running APR Stage1 its alot faster

Another Update

I was at APR about a week ago chatting about GTI International when i said to Keith that i quite fancied some kind of APR Branding for the car for GTI International, He went to a cupboard behind his desk and said what like these... A set of stickers for a MK5 3 Door Golf Racecar, Anyway today Andy one of the APR Technicians fitted them for me

Initial thoughts, Sound's like Darth Vader's Spanish cousin is hiding in the glove box, noticeably picks up quicker and feels like its pulling better etc

So whats next? well Alex is fitting me some Metal bushes that go onto the gearbox soon, Also getting my middle box removed for more noise and maybe some Red coilpacks

Looking good mate. I was there a few hrs previous to you having mine serviced. Did you pick up the black washer fluid and expansion bottle caps? Think it will finish off the engine bay nicely.

ah but thats weight saving.  Thats different as theres a performance gain.  Im talking carbon inserts for fog lights, and grills etc that serve no purpose other than looking pretty

Yeah that's me.

I know what your saying. I'm generally not one for buying stick on parts as it were. I saw the mounts whilst I was down there and will probably get a set further down the line. As you recommended the Forge shortshifter and 42DD bushes, I imagine these would compliment them quite well.

Yip cap from the 991 911 part number 991 107 475 00 ( same as yours )
One thing ill say from looking at your Cupar is that your oil filler cap neck extends out where as my edition 30 is recessed and as the cap is shorter than oem the cap does not fit the edition 30 !

My coolant cap fits fine though !

Cheers

What times you getting?

Rubbish times! Just couldn't hook up the launches tbh lots of wheel spin

Got it down to 14.3 ran about 5 @ 14.3 was crossing the line at 107mph (107.9 to be exact)

Getting some new rubber on wheels and then going to try break into 13's

The alloys looks the nuts

You need a diff and some stick tyres for the 1/4.

because it will help with grip by shifting the power thats spinning away to the wheel with the most grip.

But they won't be spinning at the same speeds, one will have a little more grip than the other so the diff will transfer it, which coincidently will put less power/torque into the spinning wheel which will allow it to gain some grip, at which point it will get given more power.  Just traction control, but better

Andrew, thankfully it's not that bad. A quick press of the pedal and 99% of the time it goes away. There is a strange rattle when making progression though, which again goes away once the power is fully applied.

yep.  The plan is for me to collect it on friday.

Thats good news.  The pistons arrived last friday so hopefully they will have it up and running pretty soon then.

Do you have a stage 1 graph?  Would be good to see the difference between a stage 1 and a 1+.  A KO4 TFSI stage 1+ with stock intake and exhaust is my idea of the perfect setup.  Thats surely got to be about 310Hp

no graphs not been near rollers until tomorrow :(

APR reckon Stage 1 2.0TFSI K04 should make 320. With intake 325-330

The Stage1+ will make no more power peak but will make more power midrange

Finally had the car on APR/Volkswagen Racing's Dyno tonight, its a MAHA Dyno used to calibrate the VW Racing Cup cars

Current Spec:
APR Stage1+ (The + is to take into consideration the HPFP)
APR HPFP
Neuspeed P-Flo

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbaz88icf%2FLeon_Cupra_R%2FIMG_20121211_181302.jpg&hash=eeffd33cddf09c95832492cd4f2e3bef5e58223d)

Here's the graph
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbaz88icf%2FLeon_Cupra_R%2FScannedDocument.jpg&hash=c97611348e004cb91c465482e9fe2cd21d809b5d)

Now the Wheel Horsepower is very low so i put the question to Keith @ APR why? his response was
Quote
It's a MAHA and we see anywhere from 70-120 on these platform cars depending on wheel/tyre combo, strap tension, tire pressure, etc but the calculated bhp is always the same regardless of the difference in whp and bhp.

We calibrate for vwr cup race teams and they have to certify their power at other dynos and even though the other dyno reads whp higher and losses less, the bhp is always the same as ours.

I would say the explanation for such results at stage 1+ is that turbo cars love the cold weather.

Also to explain the spike at the start of the graph
Quote
It's the load being applied by the dyno during spool. It typically won't happen on the road.

Hopefully on the 22nd i will have my 3" downpipe + 100cel sports car fitted so i can have Stage2+ flashed then

Thats nice power. My stage 1 Cupra only made 295bhp. No other mods.

thats more power than Mikes cupra with his full decat TBE, massive IC, aircon delete and stage 2+ APR map etc

Liking the torque, great plateau. Shame they couldnt do a stage 1 v stage 1+ on the rollers.  Id have liked to have seen the difference.

My question to Keith would be if it's so cold why are the intake temps so high?

APRs

God knows then, think i need to have a race with Mike  :P

I think what we need to look at here is not the overall peak figure, because we did 3 runs, 342,341 and 355, 355 was the first of them 3 runs but an average figure

im certainly no expert but a few things i can think of

1.Still running OEM downpipe and Cat, so is the cat not flowing enough for the Stage1+ map therefore creating the temperatures? (ive got a 100cel sports cat to go on)
2.Car was showing -1 on the dash board when it was strapped on, after the 5 or so runs we did (some where aborted) it was showing 12 degrees
3.Neuspeed is an open intake, it doesn't even have a heat shield (i think i will ask Alex @ AKS to make one)

according to the dynos yours would be about the same if not quicker.  Same power at 3k, same power at 4k, same power at 5k, more power peak but your IATs are showing 22 degrees higher.

So this is a stage 1 K04 car with OEM DP and cat with a Neuspeed intake making 355hp and 336lbft.

If that's the case then I must admit I am a little skeptical.

Been to see Alex @ AKS Tuning today for the rest of the Stage2+ hardware to be fitted

First thing was a H&R Rear-Anti Roll Bar (Front one is to be fitted at a later date)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjj266%2Fbaz88icf%2F20130109_102008.jpg&hash=dc7cc360ffa0baa6e414a7b7397aed29362e1ae4)

Notice how bad the OEM exhaust looks after nearly 3 years

Next up was my Ebay special downpipe, 3" with 100cel sports cat, I took it to Alex and he has rewelded it and fitted a bigger and better flexi hose
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fjj266%2Fbaz88icf%2F20130109_103134.jpg&hash=9a8fd4c1f839ca3b2b53cc3632298afc54a2b4aa)

Alex then fitted an AUDI RS4 Pressure Regulating Valve  which allows more pressure than the OEM valve

Now my plan was to drive straight to APR tonight and get them to flash the Stage2+ tune, but my clutch is slipping really badly now so im now going to flash any more tune until ive got gearbox sorted out

Next up:
Southbend stage2 SMF & organic clutch
Quaife LSD
H&R Front ARB
AKS Tuning metal gearbox mounts

Picked the car up this morning, Alex said my gearbox is in perfect condition (Unlike my old FR TDI), The OEM clutch is still in really good condition but the OEM DMF is knackered. The Southbend kit which is a silent kit (was very noisy on my FR TDI) is silent on this car, LSD feels amazing.

This afternoon popped round to APR to get Stage2+ flashed and all i can say now is WOW, The difference between Stage1+ and Stage2+ is immense really cant wait for RAF Marham 30-130 day now

Been after a replacement engine cover for a while as the standard one doesnt fit with the intake

Audi TTS one does thought but TPS/Audi always have to order it so ive never bothered.. popped into Crewe Audi on sat and they had one sat there did it for £90 with all the mounts needed (think TPS wanted £93)

All as it really does is stops water dripping on my coil packs

My idea is to colour code it slightly by doing the black bits gloss black im not sure wether to keep the audi badge and do it yellow with the TFSI badge or to remove Audi badge and fit a SEAT Sport badge instead.

Few photo's from GTI Springfest yesterday! Good think about HDR photo's they can make the swirled of cars look shiny! Haha

Thought i would do a quick update

Firstly Keith invited me to test out the new APR Switching a few days early before it was released. The mapping now contains Stock,95Ron,98Ron and 104Ron. Im running the 98Ron as always :D

Since Santa Pod the car has felt lacking, I suspect a boost leak as my boost gauge is peaking at 1.5bar and holding 1.4bar where as before it was peaking at 1.9/2.0bar and holding 1.7bar.

I haven't been able to do any logging yet, I've had a quick look over the car and all the pipework appears to be normal, I swapped the Rev D DV for a new Rev G , the car does feel a little bit more gutzy low down but it hasn't solved the issue. Had a look over the PCV system and that looks fine aswell, I will probably get the BSH kit to rule this out though.

So im hoping to get some logging done soon and to fix the issue.

Im also hoping to add the following soon:

BSH PCV Delete
Neuspeed Turbo Discharge Pipe
Exhaust (Either Scoprion or BCS)
Possibly some brakes

Got my first MOT tomorrow so decided I better give the car a wash, its not been washed since Santa Pod about a month or so ago.

Got the Karcher out and blasted it off and then gave it the old two bucket method as always. The sun was out so decided to give it a quick polish and wax aswell which is the first time ive ever done it on this car, was feeling lazy so decided to apply the polish and wax with my Meguiars DAS-6 that I've had for about 4 years and used once.

Cant really tell on the photo's but before it was starting to become a dull yellow and very swirled, now its abit brighter, id say roughly 20% less swirled and more shiney. My plan is now to get it professionally done in the next month or so.

So plans now? Well hoping to get a BCS Sport system fitted soon to make it more vocal and some new brakes all round

I have the same wheels as Mike and the brake clearance (width ways) is insane on the Turinis due to the design and lower offset.

Is Mike's car still at Alex's unit? If so, I'd suggest asking him for cheeky trial of one of your wheels on his car to check for clearance.

Those brakes really are the business and will look fantastic on your Leon. Any ideas on the cost of replacement discs & pads on these?

Got a free 20 min track taster to use this year at Rockingham so will use this and then no doubt i will be hooked and my car will end up like mikes

So today was the day to get rid of them pesky 345mm brakes.. the OEM brakes as standard are very good but mine where knackered due to the amount of stick this car has had as a Press Car including going round Rockingham a few times.

OEM setup

So i took the Leon to Rockingham today, My car being one of the Ex-SEAT UK press cars its no stranger to Rockingham.. it was my first time on a real track day, ive been to lots of "drive around" the track sessions but never a full on track day. I paid the extra for a tutor to come out with me and i can well recommend it to any other new people. The tutor was really good he kept egging me on to go faster and faster through corners and by the end of the session i was going alot faster than my first lap.

Few pics and Video's taken by the GF from the pits.

So how was the car?

Well all as i can say is it surprised me, it handled so well out there i really wasn't expecting to be as good as it was. The LSD was working well and the brake upgrade was superb, When you come out of the last corner your foot is then planted and you arrive at the first corner which is also very banked because its part of the racing oval I was arriving at that corner doing around 125mph (clock speed not GPS) quick dab of the brakes and then turn into the corner and keep the foot semi planted, The second corner which is a hair-pin style corner you arrive at it doing approx 100mph and you need to brake very hardly to enter it. Now if i still had my 345mm single pot setup i wouldn't of managed to brake how i needed to for this corner, The 370mm 4 pots on the other hand stopped me exactly how i needed them to :)

I have well and truly got the track bug now, i was tempted to stay for the afternoon session but the GF and mate wanted to go for food.

Few minor updates

1. Used torque app this morning to test the G/S of the Neuspeed P-Flo and it manages 244g/s which isn't great think im going to invest in a better intake soon.

2. Picked up this

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbaz88icf%2FLeon_Cupra_R%2F20130929_185407_zpsac3563fc.jpg&hash=a1f8ab142a75bddef32387c1044044e3a1a76704)
Its a Piper Cat-Back System, will be fitted in next week or so

3. Hopefully purchasing some Schroth Harnesses from TFSI Mike, They plug into the rear seat belt buckles and then into the front ones as well, can be easily unattached if you need to use rear seats... obviously these will only be used for trackdays etc dont plan to use them everyday

Got home from a 12 hour night shift, decided to unload the exhaust out of the boot and put it in the garage for now.. while i was doing it thought might aswell give the exhaust tips a polish, as you do at 6am :cartman:

Exhaust is on, took a while to get it sitting correctly and had to cut up the downpipe

Original system (standard middle section with Remus backbox)

So what is it like? the car barks and burbles ... but isn't stupidly loud, the system itself has two small boxes on it

Looks alot slower than it actually was

Awesome track.  Which layouts did they use?

I found it destroyed my tyres though, i left there with blisters on all of them every time i went there in the Fabia!!!  Out of interest, what speeds where you hitting before hitting the anchors into Deane Hairpin?

Yeah mine was about 120-125mph tbh i think it could have had a few more mph if i could have stopped the car better.  Never got to try Rockingham with the Tarox kit, only the stock milk bottle tops.

So I've had a small chip in the windscreen for a few days, Called the insurance and they sent out Auto Windscreens to repair, Bloke turns up and repairs it but as he removes the machine the bloody windscreen decides to crack half way across it :(

£90 excess later I'm having a new windscreen on Thursday.

I got to drive Irfans car the other night with the latest APR software and I was mind blown that a 2.0tfsi with a stock turbo can pull so hard and smoothly.

That car would have destroyed my old stage 2 plus Revo K1.

It's mad how back in 2010 everyone thought these engines where maxed out in the stock turbo yet APR keep finding power. Makes me want another one

Haha i know its so mad... spinning up like hell now though with the road conditions. I might throw the RFD kit in soon which should offer a little more top end.

So local company LC Autoclean came today who are a friend of a friend.

Winter protection and hand enhancement was completed, I don't know the names of all the products he used so I'm waiting for him to do his write up then I can link to it.

Bearing in mind the only work this car has had done to it since me owning it was me giving it a quick polish with the Kestrel DAS-6 a few month ago it was looking quite sorry for itself.

The paintwork was a little dull before and quite swirled I would say 60% of the swirling is gone now and its got a nicer colour to it now and is very smooth after the claying.

The SEAT touch up paint is quite "off" with the colour but hopefully it will get dirty and blend in

Just waiting on a gas strut now

Basically I switched From 95 to 99 and then it flashed up ESP fault on screen,  then it wouldn't start..  Reset the battery and it would start..  Turn it off and it wouldn't start again.

Really not sure what caused it.

Very, very nice looking car! :congrats:
The exterior look changes are subtle and they really suit the car. The wheels, brakes, splitter, tail lights, even the APR branding on the sides come togheter realy nicely.
About the performance mods I have one question: why did you only buy spings and not a complete coilover suspension?

First impressions of the intake are that the car pulls alot stronger with it on over the Neuspeed, it sounds better aswell.

This afternoon I visited PartsULike to see if their MK2 Leon LED conversion kit they have listed would fit my car (I was sceptical the kit would fit because I've heard some of the bulbs are different in newer cars), Yes we were right the kit didn't fit.

Below are what we have changed and pictures of the original bulbs.

1. Sidelights
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fbaz88icf%2FLeon_Cupra_R%2F20140226_201908_zpse5qbk8o2.jpg&hash=e9af5bc1620eec608a87f93f028f6fd33b047ef2)

Once PartsULike have emailed me the exact specs of the bulbs we have replaced them with I will post the list.

Below are some poor quality pics of the new bulbs.

I will try to get some better photos at some point.

Basically the only non LED lights I have on the car now are the DRL's and Fog's but I never use either of these so not going to bother.

Car is at AKS having its 40k service while I'm in Romania.

I'm possibly doing a deal aswell to trade the LCR in for a new MK3 Leon Cupra 280 with DSG, So the car will more than likely be up for sale in a few weeks.
