Maybe a daft question but i will try it. What sort of bhp/torque would a 1300kg 2.0tfsi need to have to keep up with a 150bhp bike in a straight line? Cheers, Stevie.
-
ok fag pack maths here goes
The Golf is about 1600kg (brake weight for MOT)
bike is say 350kg ish
so to be the same power to weight ratio you would need about 800bhp, but it doesnt work like that, id say you would need 400 to keep up but then you would murder it in the corners as you can go round them almost twice as fast
-
Who you racing now :signLOL: if its Bones you know he'll win lol :driver:
-
Whats brake wgt?? Inc fluids? I really want to get my s3 on the weigh bridge see how it sits.
Toast - A small touring car clip sorts out any KTM.
Cheers, Stevie.
-
what cc is the bike?
A stage 2 plus cupra can just about keep up with a 500cc
A 650hp porsche still gets beat by a 750cc porsche

when you carry out the brake test on the MOT you get the weight of the car so you can work out the braking force, your S3 is about 1900kg thats almost 2 ton

A golf is 1600kg and an S3 is 1900kg..... what
Dont race a bike in a straight line, throw some corners in and you'll have him.
-
:signLOL: So who was it on the bike?!
-
All my mates have bikes but we will use the 600RR Honda as example? My Audi is completely stripped, just two seats. Good to get some answers. Cheers.
-
I read this post sat in my Golf listening to music in a dual climate controlled zone whilst looking at the pouring rain streaming outside. Go Bikes

I did race a KTM super duke with my 350bhp and full interior and he overtook me (in a straight line) as if I had 100bhp. So was just wondering how much is needed to have a real good play with a fairly quick bike.................or even pull out a little on a fairly quick bike. :happy2:
-
Tell the truth you stumbled across that Vespa convoy and wanted a race :signLOL: :driver:

My Ed30 is 306bhp, has WALK and coilovers fitted and in a straight line I kept up with my friends bike no problem in 'D' but then started pulling away. His bike is a 1994 Honda VFR750 (120bhp). He's not the best rider either and I'm sure that would be the one of the main factors.
My other friend has a Yamaha R1 (150bhp) and he is a good rider. I wouldn't even attempt to race him as I know it'd beat any of my cars.
To be able to keep up with a 150bhp bike like the R1 I'd guess you'd need to run at least 400bhp at 1300kg to get near it but this is only a guess and I don't really know much about bikes either haha
-
Even better, if u have an S3, race the bike in the wet!!!
I did the other day, and even from the lights they shat themselves :signLOL:

i was allowing for the fact it was 4wd so transfer box, rear axel, prop and it was a guess lol

Or an over weight rider

A bike will p1ss all over most cars other than exotic supercars. A Zx10R will do over 100mph in first gear
A Golf would have to have 4wd and some serious horsepower to have any chance . New Suzuki GSXR1000 virtaully has 1bhp per kg !
-
A golf doenst way 1600kg though. An S3 might when its fully fully loaded but not a golf.

ok so the heavyist is 1617KG, i didnt think VOSA would have been far out TBH, so with that in mind i would say the S3 would be close to 1900kg as i first thought :P

WRONG :P
1617kg would be the R32 :innocent:
So the heaviest and similar to the S3
-
On the scales my lard arse estate weighs 1495kg.
I raced a fireblade in my 440 bhp ibiza and was exactly the same. Also only just beat a gsxr750 in a mk1 lcr with 430 bhp and a fully loaded interior.
-
or the tdi 4motion, would be close i would have thought, will have a look and see what VOSA give the S3 brake test weight as being on tuesday
-
Is it jyst me who's slightly bemused that people want to be able to race a bike and win. Never gonna happenunless its a pump rider/crap bike/tight track or huge expenditure on the car

TBH your Octy needs to be your/Alisons daily and you need a Caged, stripped, BT MkII Cupra for yourself. :popcornsoda:
-
I beat my mates R6 in my 270hp Starlet GT weighed in at 800kg! :P
-
Good replies thanks. By the looks of it i think we are talking high 400's to be able to play with a quick 600cc bike or similar. Plus if the biker started off behind me he would probably be blind and lying in a hedge with the amount of sh*t my screamer throws up. With 520 and hopefully 12**kg I shouldn't be far away from where I want to be. Will look into getting my Audi weighed soon. Cheers, Stevie.

this thread is hillarious! no car below 500ish bhp will even be close to a bike especially if you're talking supersports like r1 for example! these are in different league! Obviously in tight corners car would be better but straight line????
Not sure if it's only me but everytime I ride a bike car seems to be standing still and doesn't matter be it m3 or a porsche!
I am pretty sure any biker here would have similar impressions
Paul

an r1 will do 0 to 150 in about 12 seconds, problem is you have to be a demon rider to make it do that, about 700 bhp per tonne with rider sat on it :signLOL: so golf would need 1000 bhp? a 600 would be about 500 per tonne with rider, but tyre contact patch is the size of a 50p coin so to just wind it back takes big  basically for the s3 to keep up with any sports bike the rider would have to be human i.e. scared :signLOL:

I'd have to agree with this tbh. Just look on YouTube and you will see 800hp cars being beaten by 750cc bikes never mind the 1000cc bikes.

Completely stripped haha! You've took the back seat out! Get the door cards oot, electric windows out, Perspex windows fitted, seatbelts oot, carpets and sound deadening removed, air bags deployed then it will be a stripped out monster lol
-
Lol this is a funny thread indeed.
Had a CBR600F once..... 100bhp, 180kgs = 555bhp per tonne! (without rider)
0-60 in 3secs, does 70mph in 1st gear.
That's a straight forward 600cc bike. Not even talking about 750s or more.
On acceleration the bike will just jizz all over most cars out there. You can't really beat simple PtoW physics!
But by all means have fun trying to out do them though and mod your car accordingly.
-
Taking into account an average driver and rider then imo you'd only need around 350-400 bhp to keep even the litre class sportbikes honest over the 0-60 dash..
It takes far more skill to launch the current crop of litre plus bikes to their full potential in a consistent manner compared to an M3 or RS3 with an auto box for example, however once out of the wheelie zone then the advantage falls firmly to the bike and it'll just clear off into the distance unless you are packing 650bhp + imo..
Bear in mind a BMW S1000r will cover 0-150 in 10.5 seconds which is only a few tenths slower over the same measure than a Veyron super sport with 1100bhp,
However this is all straight line stuff which is not only pretty boring but does give the bike an advantage, throw in some corners and the simple fact is that it takes huge cojones to pilot a bike to the same corner speeds as a car on the public highway, I have the scars to prove it
-
Not having a dig but kind of went off topic a bit somewhere, the example was a 600cc RR and somehow some people have went into 1000+cc monsters. Should of seen that coming though. I do understand the zx12's and the 1000cc gsxr's are a whole different ball game. Cheers, Stevie. :happy2:

Holy sh*t f1 cars rule!
-
Moto gp bikes are faster than f1 in a straight line drag, not even close in the comers mind.
