Title: is there an idiot guide to buying alloys?
Post by: dannymk5 on May 06, 2012, 11:40:48 pm
hey everyone yet another advice topic apologies!

new to this game but im a keen learner, just learnt so much from this site and i now have the bug.

i need some new wheels for my mk5. ive spotted your average monza alloys with tires range around 450 +

however ive spotted some on gumtree going for half this. is there any hidden dangers in low cost alloys?

also i wanted some rs4 style alloys for my golf, but ive heard some do not fit the golfs?

how will i know if they fit before i buy?

thanks again  :notworthy:

make sure the PCD is correct (112x5) and the offset isn't too low otherwise they stick out too much and you might get some rubbing. ET45+ would be safe. you should be able to get loads of designs that will fit

I alway's go for genuine VW alloy's,you'll find the cheaper one's are replica's which weigh more and are much more prone to damage(cracking),but what do you do as good alloy's with a good set of tyre's don't come cheap!

Another vote for getting genuine alloys

Then no idiot's guide needed!
