Guys,
I know absolutely nothing about retrofits of different OEM seats to VAG cars.
As a completely random question, would something like these 997 seats fit into a MK5 or an 8P Audi A3?
It would be the front seats only that I'd be looking for. I noticed they have the handles present to yank them forward which obviously is a must have.
If they'd need some modification to components, what would it require?

Thanks.

What would be involved?
Cut mounts\rails of both sets of seats and weld Golf mounts to Porsche seats.

^ Those do look smarter sub - the ones I linked to just came up in a search and thought I'd post the question having no experience in interior chops.

Is that the same process as fitting seats from say an RS4, as in would it be a more involved retrofit than other Volkswagen or Audi OEM seats that are more commonly retrofitted?

They look to have flat rails, like a MKV does, whether they match up is another matter. You may be able to mate a MKV subframe to a Porsche seat if not.
I guess it's going to take a punt and some experimenting, you can always sell them on again if it's a no-go.

Pete if you have never sat in the Porsche seats then I urge you to do so before throwing your money away? There are far nicer seats on the market OEM and aftermarket.
Now if you was talking Gt2-3 seats then fair enough but I think you'll be dissappointed with them

Are they not fantastic for £700 then Mr. M?
I'm doing this more than blind really, hence the loose query thread.
I'll look out for some GT2/3 seats but I strongly expect them to cost more than the value of my car, the value of my life insurance and my pension all stashed together
I know RS4's are quite popular retrofits and they'd be ideal, not many around though.
I want something with a half bucket look and feel (very like the standard Interlagos GTI seats) but that comes around at a fair price :happy2:

I spotted some lovely Carbon-backed recaro style seat at Autosport international in January. I think I still have the linky at home. They were about £800 a pair.

Im lucky enough to have a mate who owns some serious metal and he has had a few 997 turbos the last one was a cab and climbing in you think for a car of that pedigree you'd think the tombstone seats would be more supportive.
You know already that a RS4/S3/R32 bucket would fit straight off and look better :happy2:

Thanks Daz. Useful to hear from someone who's tried and tested them :drinking:
I've seen some S5 and RS5 style buckets around too - presumably anything Audi RS or VW Recaro built will also follow suit?

I think the A5/S5 will need modifications but has you was going to do them with the Porsche seats then yes A5 seats are fair game and look top knacker as well.

A5/S5/RS5 seats should be a straight bolt in. I think you need to alter the wiring tho

Sounds good. What's the wiring for fella? - Does that apply even if they're not heated?
-
i'm not sure of the specifics mate but it's a fairly well rehearsed mod on the 8P. (can think of 3 cars off the top of my head with them, and one other person who was considering it) i doubt there'll be much difference between what our boys have had to do and what you'll have to do on your Mk5 :happy2:

Other than the seat heating (if fitted) then there is the wiring for the airbag and belt tensioner to contend with but that should be fairly straight forward, might have to mod or run some wiring if the new seat comes with electric adjustment though?
