Title: Speed limit now shown on screen
Post by: Squeeguk on May 09, 2012, 09:25:17 pm
I used to have the limit shown on the screen, but for some reason it's disappeared and I don't see the option for it on the screen anywhere. Anybody got any ideas? Is there an option in VCDS that I may have missed or inadvertently changed?

IIRC there is a box you can select in the map or navi section of the RNS setup.  :happy2:

Have you just done an update or something?

I put in a new disc with the same level maps, but updated POI's and cameras, but it didn't ask me to update or anything so assumed it didn't. Perhaps this has caused the issue as the timing does correlate.

Anybody got any ideas?

I just updated the firmware to 4020 hoping it would bring it back, but still no option for that.

Not all roads have the speed limit displayed.

I am on 4024 firmware and it is shown on mine. To ensure it is displayed

Press Setup > In the setup menu select Map > Scroll down > Ensure there is a tick in "Show Speed Limitation"

After this do a soft reset just to give it a kick up the hoop as changing the POI database can sometimes cause it to sulk  :happy2:

.
Does that mean that every time you went over 60, or 70 on a M'way, it displays it (as a warning?) on your screen? - I wouldn't want that!

If the limit isn't on the database and doesn't display that's not good if you are silly enough to rely on the display.

No.

When you are on a road which has a limit, say a motorway, it will display a 70 speed sign in the top right corner. It doesn't change no matter what speed you do. Some roads (like minor roads in a housing estate etc) it won't display anything. I don't think you could use it as an excuse to do 90 though

Can you not set a warning on the Highline like you can on the Maxidot (Skoda equivalent) where the dash will ping at you if you go over a pre set speed?

Thanks Carl, but that option is no longer there to put a tick in?????? IT did work before and the option definitely was there?

Will go and have a play on VCDS, perhaps something has changed.

Are you sure your on 4020?

All firmwares from 2660 and above and V6 maps (it may even be V5 i need to check) have the speed limit display.

....Don't worry, Rich - Carl likes to roger anything which moves. [Perhaps you should worry afterall!]

Switching off the ping everytime I exceeded 70 was one of the first things I did when I first drove my car. The worst thing about it is that the actual ping is exactly the same as all other audible alerts and warnings and so imagine as you accelerate from 60 to overtake and the ping goes off as you overtake, your immediate thought is that something has gone wrong. Very distracting and totally unnecessary in my opinion.

Surely it would be easier not to exceed the speed limit.  :popcornsoda:

Which of course i never do  :innocent:

Potentially though he has re-formatted his HDD going to 4020 but should have gone to 38xx first.

You don't need to bother with 38xx if you can load 40xx. It will still make the 3 partitions regardless. It shouldn't make a difference though as it's the map & firmware which display the speed limit. As long as it is above 26xx and definately V6 maps or above it should have the display.

Does your show the display? I know you went from 2xxx to 4xxx so just wondering if you have the same issue.

....Not easier at all. A very good example recently: [ :indifferent: Sorry folks] I was driving on a 50-limit B-road and following at safe braking distance a guy in a Ford. We were both exceeding 50 but not by much and I spotted a marked Police car further back behind me. I slowed to 50 (according to my PogoAlert GPS) but the chap in front didn't spot at first and then slowed right down to about 40 when he did spot the Police car. This was too slow for the road conditions so I waited until I saw a stretch suitable for an overtake, positioned myself to show my intentions and check out the view ahead, indicated and booted it. As the Police car immediately followed and matched my speed I continued at speed to create space for his completed overtake before I simply got off the loud pedal and settled back slowly without braking to around 50. I half expected to get stopped because I had done 65 or so during my overtake, but the Police were sensible and just followed me for the next 5 miles or so and witnessed me arrive at a 30 zone without braking and go back up to 50 immediately when my shoulders were level with the NSL sign as taught.

I would not want the distraction or alarm of a ping during any part of that maneouvre. [Thanks for reading...... If you did!]

OK chaps, all sorted. Went and checked with VCDS and in the Navigation coding there is an option for recognising traffic symbols or something like that. It was ticked on, unticked it and did the coding. Checked the Map settings now and speed limit shown option was back.

With regards the firmware, being an F unit, it was on 3970 so no problems with partitions, etc.
