Title: Slow But Steady!
Post by: nathangallo on May 09, 2012, 10:39:23 pm
Havnt done a post on here really about the car as i havnt really done much modification as still recovering from buying the thing  :signLOL: and recently doing major service :sad1:

But i do have plenty of things to be done in my head and as soon as my wage goes up (as im on a sh*t apprentice wage) it shall start rolling in a bit often.

Here are a couple of pictures of the car though

As i bought it in November from VW
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2F298835_10150349980891867_694776866_8713250_2048544664_n.jpg&hash=ce24c78388a952a80562d6f40f8881c5d4fa527c)

Firstly I installed the black vw badge on front.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FIMG_2465.jpg&hash=1170c1ab2d86d3e87c0bfca7faf1ac45ec9c46de)
I then installed Team Heko Wind Deflectors which i think set the car off awesome!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0358.jpg&hash=1977ea9ef8c12ca7ff9de8b0db303dc488f55d53)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0357.jpg&hash=bd56c8390abe64b371a73dcf282fb835a1e18338)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0356.jpg&hash=ee1de61f33f91d58b45761c2a866aa504133c1f7)

Upgraded the exterior bulbs as the car never come with xenon so i purchased 6000k bulbs
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0349.jpg&hash=c1a807e1531bdd057dcfabd6a9a4b0145afa2298)

After that was the X-tec Plate bulbs to sharpen the look of the back.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0363.jpg&hash=98ae53baad4e93bb3593851181e33ff13426078d)

Started going down the route of rear stickers :signLOL:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2F375844_10150367074136867_694776866_8784564_820300652_n.jpg&hash=a08aebdae3e148184d1f971024ade23f564a2c47)

I then wasted a rainy day spraying the engine cover
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0565.jpg&hash=f5d5f0c5b5bb707483615c08434c2ae8cddee4d0)

Carbon wrapped rear badge
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0590.jpg&hash=02edc33664593fbf640dbaf544a8f4c4d5f23b37)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0591.jpg&hash=613efebe345665634f4540f746e6f694260925a5)

I then sprayed my brake calipers transforming them from this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FIMG_0037.jpg&hash=28f3b66e6df3d11b4b4965c25ab2bf88e44b4428)
to this
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FIMG_0039.jpg&hash=0d2425f7023fe4a74c8c91848495aba0351199e7)

As you can see on the last picture i do have yellow lamin-x :ashamed: I know its marmite but i think it looks good and that picture dont show it off that good  :signLOL:

As modifications go thats about it guys nothing to exciting compared to others on here but i am still on honeymoon period with the car and just loving it as standard :)

But i do spend plenty of time detailing! So thought it would be rude not to add beading pics
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FDSCF0595.jpg&hash=3ac290451d3fb0769f26f08667f0081f906de99d)

Welcome mate. Looks a tidy motor. Just got a GTI myself last month. How did you remove the rear badge for the carbon wrapping?

Tilt the handle and you can see we're it splits just get a small frat screwdriver in there and prize it away slowly. You can take the whole mechanism out but that seems a bit ott when you can do what I did  :signLOL:

You can only do this on the new style 3d mechanism mind not the older 1 piece  :happy2:

Haven't done an update in a while with moving and work so gave her a clean yesterday/today so thought it might be a good time for an update.

Owned the car for nearly 18 months now and i still love it even being standard performance wise.

Still a couple of things doing to get it where i want.

Anywhoo here is where she stands at the moment

Biggest update is the wheel refurb.

Had them firstly undercoated in black then lightly sprayed Vauxhall Anthracite with a glossy clear coat.

Next up was a new RCD51o with centre console wrapped piano black

So this is how she stands now. Very please with the look, was exactly what i was going for and i like the 'Dark' theme.

Rear badge changed the piano black instead of the carbon effect
(In desperate need of r32 rear lights)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fp519%2Fnathangallo1%2FIMG_3154_zpsc60b4fb2.jpg&hash=49197a04cd7697cc0d9fa784419ad81ebf09c8f0).

Thats all all i have left to do for me to be 100% with it now is.

1) Light window tints
2) R32 rear lights
3) Hubs/calipers refurbed
4) Front grill wrapped Matt Black
5) Open front fog grills
6) Xenon stlye front lights (Maybe)

Dont want to do much more than that as i am waiting for the R, Ed35 or TTS to come into budget and i will change.

Hope you like  :happy2:

Lovely colour that, I love the wheel refurb nice choice of colour been thinking along similar lines myself but it seems wrong to refurb immaculate wheels (might get some old ones)

Piano black console looks classy and new head unit looks so much better.

To many stickers for my liking but I'm 38 so ignore me, perhaps add colour coding of your lower rear bumper to the list?

Top car :happy2:

Stickers are marmite  just a bit of fun though

Got the idea from the newer vw's and someone on here recommended me a company to buy from. Sets it off good, I am going to attempt the other vents next

Tilt the handle as if you was going to open it and you can see we're it splits into two, put a thin screwdriver in there and prise the parts aparts. You can only do this on the later 3d badges.

Had a long three days on the car getting things sorted.

Middle of the week i realised my rear pads needed changing so saturday dropped it off had them done along with its 10k service brought it home and gave it a good clean.

Painwork was ok as i detailed it properly before the winter, so was just a normal wash but did top up the Collinite 476s with an extra coat.

Leather cleaned and sealed and full clean inside.

I then removed all the wheels as i havnt sealed the insides since they had been refurbed only the front i have done.

So they had a wash, De-tar, clay bar, Polish with SRP, two coats of Poor Boys Wheel Sealant then a couple of coats of AG Instant Tyre Dressing.

Whilst the wheels were off i painted my calipers as they were looking a little sorry for them selves.

And whilst the wheels were off i thought id show them off a little more.

What do you think.

Here is how it started
