Rather than replacing the existing turbo, What options are there in converting the K04 to a hybrid, or upgrading its internal compressor?
A mate of mine has a Focus RS - he was running 385bhp and sent his turbo away for a compressor replacement (apparently a Porsche 997 compressor was installed) and he is now running around 430bhp
Now I don't know anything about the internals of turbo's, but I'm sure somebody here has some sort of experience on this?
:popcornsoda:

Thats interesting, Might consider doing this before upgrading

I think it the hybrid k04,might be wrong though..
-
It is interesting, but it seems nobody here knows about it
-
Has any of yous searched for "k04 hybrids" on here?
Lots of info..
-
vrs alex has a hybrid k04 with wmi iirc :happy2:

Indeed and it pulls very well, Stve Jnr @ statller has one, Luke at Jabba has one. as said lots of info on here :happy2:
CR turbos, Turbo Dynamics, LOBA Motorsport all worth a google
-
It's expensive, last time I asked its around £1400 for the hybrid
-
Who would do the custom map after the install?

APR...
-
any good tuner writing his own software will do it!

Jabba, R-tech, Apr etc, probably some others too, that offer custom software.

GIAC also have a hybrid extreme file.
There are many other things to consider if you are thinking of going for a hybrid K04 upgrade. Fuelling is one of them. The "in-tank" low pressure fuel pump need uprating (internals like the HPFP) and also RS4 injectors (you can use OEM K04, but they are limited). All these add up.

Think Custard Code might do them too :ashamed:
I was talking to Luke at Jabba and he told me his ED30 K04 Hybrid is running S3 intercooler and Std Injectors, I asked if it was necessary for larger injectors and adding FMIC's and he said larger injectors were not required, uprated fuel pump was tho, he also said he was not running an additional FMIC at front and said the S3 alloy version did the job just fine and his was running 400bhp.
-
The RS4 injectors aren't a pre-requisite for a hybrid conversion, but they do make better power. I was speaking to Steve Jr at Statllers ages ago when they were doing development work with GIAC. They ran 438bhp/440lbft on their dyno and it isn't a particularly high reading dyno! (this was with WMI too!)

To achieve 400ish on standard gti engine I would need apart from hybrid turbo forged pistons and rods? Is that it for it to be safe and reliable??

I asked the same thing to Luke @ Jabba and he has been running his with no uprated pistons/rods as he tells me they are plenty strong enough for 400bhp, he said if they were to push it nearer 450 he would think about doing them to be safe, but im sure everyone has their own opnions.
His does not run a Diff either, he reckoned for every day use most could not drive the car quick enough to benefit from it, lots of track days your car would benefit from it.
-
I think you would need a diff too to plant all the power down
-
diff on the way to be fitted in 2 weeks! cant wait
Paul

mine is running 400bhp with WMI, The diff is a must, so much easier to put the power down. + makes it far more fun to drive.

Ed30 engine is slightly stronger than the GTi lump. I wouldn't want to push the standard GTi engine with a hybrid.
Diff is amazing. Should be the first mod to any car!
I'm just running s3 injectors, stock intank pump and lots of boost and the fueling is spot on. Rs4 injectors are only around 10% larger than the s3's.

I thought Gti & ed30 engine is the same except the turbo is different, correct me if I'm wrong

You are mistaken! ed30 has upgraded internals in addition to the k04 turbo.

ED30 engine is closer to S3 engine than the GTI :happy2:
