Hey folks ,
Been looking around at some possible alloy upgrades as mine are in a bit of a bad state in some areas.
I currently have these...sorry i dont know the actual name , but they are just standard VW allows i believe
Which are currently in a 16" size
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fu373%2FDarkSideJohn%2FWheelexample.jpg&hash=e48ae6c320e8ae8ec63a7f4fe52c276cd186c220)
I've been looking around at the various options and build threads on many forums , a lot of people seem to favour 17" sizes , are there any actual benefits to this ?
Part of my seemingly ever growing "mods wanted" list is so better brakes , perhaps up to some 312mm's , would these even "fit under" 16" wheels
Im a bit of a dunce when it comes to most things , and as such appreciate all your answers , they all get filled away for when i actually pluck up the courage to get some stuff done !
thanks as always
John

Yeh thanks guys that helped.....
I can see the sarcastic merit of what you did there , probably would of been inclined to do so myself ...but still doesn't help much

Hi mate, for a starters 17's will look better and fill the arches more, you will also have better grip under acceleration as the
17's would more than likely be wider hence more tyre surface on the road, also 17s would probably have a lower profile side wall so when going around corners the car would handle a little better as there wouldn't be as much tyre wall flex as with the baloons that are fitted to 16s. Cons are 17" tyres would be more than likely more expensive and you would also be sacrificing comfort as the lower the profile the more you feel the road. If i were you i'd shove some 18"monzas on. They would look loads better. Thats just my opinion though.

312mm GTI brakes under original VW 16" wheels:

With 17's you will feel roll in the car in corners. Plus the car will look better. with 17" alloys yo can fit .:R32 wheels under and the .:R32 came with the option of purchasing 17" winter alloys.

If your going to upgrade your alloys do it properly and get 18's or 19's
17's really arnt that much of an upgrade over the 16's IMHO.

Have to say I love the look of the 17" ClassiX's I have compared to the original Imola(?) ones you have now.
