Title: Power loss UPDATE FIXED
Post by: Aas on May 12, 2012, 08:37:12 pm
Hi I'm new to the forum but have been reading it for a while.

Lately I have been suffering some powerloss mainly when on the motorway in 6th at about 3.5k the power just cuts and the accelerator has no response, if this happens a couple of time it goes into a limp mode and does it in all gears.

I done a bit of researching on this forum and decided to change my fuel filter, spark plugs and diverter valve. I done this today and the diverter valve was split so I replaced it with a revision D one and the spark plugs were a bit manky too.

After this I took it for another drive and it felt like a different car so much more power and smoother. But  on the motorway the same thing still happens it goes into some sort of limp mode.

I got it scanned on vagcom and it cam up with only one fault. 000135  fuel rail/ system pressure too low.

I can see from the search function a couple of people have had the same problem but in both the threads neither seem to have posted that they resolved it.

Anybody have any ideas?? I was thinking of looking at the cam follower as its a 55 plate on 100k

Cheers

Paul

Yes definitely look at the cam follower.
I would further suggest that before you tinker, do some live logging of your requested and actual fuel rail pressure with vcds.

What other sensors are there on the fuel system.

What's the price of the cam follower?

If your getting that fault, chances are that your cam follower has failed  :sad1:

That will probably mean a new camshaft too. . .  :surprised:

I hope not as it still runs fine unless your in 6th when it does it, I think it's sensor related because it's intermit ant, there's a low pressure sensor on the fuel pump isn't there, I also heard mention of a fuel pressure switch.

Well the car has slowly gotten worse and going into limp mode more, then on weds night the engine management light came on and stayed on!

So I went and got a new cam follower today and changed it and I think i have caught it just in time :surprised:

I also changed the seal on the fuel pump just to be safe too, what a rip off that is! £10 for a bloody O ring,

I can't feel any wear to the cam lobe Either luckily  :happy2:

On the test drive after the engine light went straight out and the car is driving faultless now  soo much quicker now than when we 1st got it  :jumpmove:

Cheers

I don't know what the engine code is to be honest it's an 55 plate if that helps with two metal fuel lines on the fuel pump.

A 55 plate should be an AXX engine...
