I know the GTi's are generally higher priced than the GT, don't have any spare ££ so I would be looking at a GTI around the value of mine. I've spent £ on making sure mine has a high spec which I know I would loose due to value of a GTI, but as I dont do the mileage I used to, would YOU guys prefer?
-
That's a tricky one!!
If you get a GTI will you be able to resit the URGE to mod it. If you can resist then get one, if not (and your funds don't allow) then keep the GT. Saying that, get a GTI!!!
:drinking:

Funds are tight......I know I would have to get a down spec'd GTI.
Only reason for a change >> would be power/fun factor. GT is lovely car, but it will never be a GTI
-
Cant you just keep some of the options back? and put them on gti once purchased?
-
Not really - dont have original parts - and a lot was factory fitted
-
personally, id keep the GT for as long as i possibly can saving the money id normally be spending on insurance/fuel for the gti and in 12months/18months use that cash to get me into a newer car.
Then again because your thinking about this means you want more power....its a head or heart situation!
-
Totally. This is my 1st Golf............(technically 2nd wrote the 1st one off) and have to say I love the GT, really has and does everything I need to to.
See GTI's fly by and went it one the other week - and they sound lovely and just seem to put a bigger smile on my face than the GT.
I did go in Darren GT (morty's) and his was fantastic!! He's had remaps, hybrid turbo etc. just little £££ for me at mo. I have the 04 140bhp model not the 170, so kinda think even if I did all these upgrades I'd be lucky to get mine to match a standard 170 model
-
personally id go somewhere like r tech or shark for a remap.
You would be surprised how much difference a map makes! makes you fall in love with the car all over (well it did for me)
I mention those 2 tuners because although personally i have not used them they are a cheaper alternative to say revo but i have head loads of good stuff about them!

i was in the same situation as you a few months back but a r32,in the end decided to keep my tdi and put a hybrid turbo on

is there a lot of difference between GT and GTI are GTI massively more expensive to run?

thanks for stating the obvious :congrats:

It sounds to me like you've already decided in your heart that anything short of a GTi is always going to feel like a compromise.
My GTi makes me smile every time I look at it and drive it, and for £300 a superb PDT remap has transformed it with 240bhp, and massive torque gains.
I don't have a huge amount of money to play with for mods, I save up for them and get them done 1 at a time in a sensible order that I'm learning on here.
Go for it! :happy2:

what is a standard gti bhp
-
what is a standard gti bhp
197bhp for a normal GTI and something like 230bhp for an ED30

Personally before I had my gti (which started as a low spec) I had a 210bhp Alfa Romeo brera the 5 cylinder turbo diesel model and it was gorgeous, highest spec and great to drive. But alas it had a typical Alfa Romeo temperament so sold up, and as my gf is a Vdub nut a got the mk5 gti. Omg although it's low spec (at the beginning) its so much faster, lighter more of a go kart on roids and I love it so much and haven't looked back since. But also I've slowly added leather, colour coding, etc etc as I've gone along over the past 18months. Will be starting a build thread on it soon when it's had a few more things done, but I'll never be going back to diesel again that's fo sho
