Title: Front ARB Drop Links
Post by: Mk5 GTian on May 14, 2012, 05:47:28 pm

Mine are worn and causing creaking noises at the front.

What are people replacing these with? OEM or upgrades?

Ian what noise is it making? My front passenger side is making a click /clunk  noise and I'm thinking it could be the drop links.

From what I have read, OEM is the best all round option as upgrades can be noisy  :sad1:

Hi Gray, It's like a creaky clicky noise, sometimes a light clunk!  :rolleye:

My mechanic reckons its the drop links from what he heard when fitting WALK 2 weeks ago.

I think I'm gonna get new OEM ones on as they're only 33 quid each, and only take half an hour to fit. The noise is annoying me now  :sad1:

My front right is clunking away. Fitting new ones and they are costing me £15 a side. Not buying VAG oe ones as a drop link is a drop link.

Fair enough 56OctyVRS, but I have a policy for my car that it's OEM all the way unless a part is widely given the thumbs up by the great and the good on here as being a beneficial upgrade.

Ian, try Dave Hawthorne @ SERE Motors Belfast. SEAT Main dealer parts dept.  Im sure the drop links are cheaper than that.  Rapid delivery too.  Dave is a top bloke  :happy2:

Thanks a lot Mike. Can they supply all VAG parts for my Golf? I've got a few interior bits I need and Colbornes Guildford are the ultimate stealers.

Not interior parts just the parts that the MkV platform share.  Mostly mechanical & serviceable parts i.e. drop links are the same on the Leon ;)

Im getting my drop links from Partco and you will find that most parts from them are actually made by the same company that makes them for VAG but at a lot lower cost.  For a piece of metal with 2 ball joints either end I am not willing to pay £30 a piece when the same thing can be purchased for less.  Things like cambelt etc I will buy for the 2 year guarantee but parts like the drop links I dont mind buying non OEM, as they will function the same and are of the same build quality.

just changed these on my golf.

Got them from Euro cars parts £19 a side and they are exactly the same as the original.

Didn't know what the noise was, but changed these and noise is gone.

Also was a nightmare to fit the first side as never changed these before.

Drop links fitted and the car rides a lot firmer and no clunking noises. I fitted QH parts and side by side comparison appear better made and thicker than the OE item.

Mine are getting fitted on Saturday. Looking forward to a clunk-free drive :happy2:
