Now I know this is the wrong to ask!!! However, been offered a straight swap on my 2006 gti 96k fvwsh for a BMW 318ci msport 2003 with 70k. BMW lovely car but not sure about power etc. Golf is better car but my mileage is starting to only slightly worry me. Anyone with experience of swapping golf for 318ci msport, whT thy like etc. I am stronger feelings on gti as i love it but was wondering thoughts on mileage on it from experts as such.

It's a lovely shape the E46 coupe, but your car is worth around 6-6.5k, and a 318ci 2003 only about 4 4.5. Also the 318 is hopelessly underpowered, I've driven one.

If it was a 330ci M sport, I'd say go for it, or even a 325, but not the 318. I reckon you'd regret it big time.

Well as many on here are well past 100k and still going strong I'd say no!  :happy2:

Mine is a 2006 55 plate with 95K, and my garage said it is running superbly. I've had 3 Golfs with well over 100k on them:

1989 GTi 16V, sold with 213K
2001 V6 4Motion sold with 153K
1999 1.8T Gti sold with 116K

All were in excellent order. As long as they're maintained properly, there is nothing to fear on high mileage. 95K isn't even considered a high mileage for German cars nowadays anyhow. Don't worry Rusty, enjoy your car for many more miles  :happy2:

Dont swap, theres tons of 318i msports out there for £3k, hard car to sell.

Believe it or not, cars dont suddenly destroy themselfes at 100k miles, its just a number.

Yea as GTian has said if it were a 325i or a 330i maybe a swap might be worth it , but what PDT has said also is bang on- just because your gti is heading for 100k does'nt mean its gonna go bang if it's been looked after, serviced regular and had a reasonable amount of mechanical sympathy it'll be just fine !

DONT SWAP FOR A 318I lol

I would keep the GTI every day of the week over the 318i (330ci would be a different story though) AND as others have said your car is worth more. On a mk5 Golf forum we are probably biased but your car has a FSH with VW so is probably in good nick as well, keep it!!

I wouldn't go for it! mark 5 interior is much nicer than e46 regardless of the spec,

I considered E46 m3 some time back and one sat in it I thought I am in 1995 car serisouly, crappy plastics ect
