Title: 18's, staggered or 19's? Tough choice
Post by: big al on May 16, 2012, 12:40:09 am
HI guys,
After your advice.
Have decided that for my new dailies I am going to go for some BBS CH alloys.
Now the difficulty I have is deciding on the setup I should go for.

Want to have them repainted in a nice anthracite colour,
Should I go for a set of brand new 18 inch reps that are 8" fronts and 9" rears for a nice staggered fitment.
Or would you advise 19's? Not gone for 19's on my car, and not sure if there is no need to go for the bigger size.

As I said, I did have CH's on the car over winter, and thought they looked ace,  as can be seen here:

Is a staggered setup ok for a GTI, I was lead to believe it upsets the TPMS and traction?

It's a sure fire way of building understeer into the car, but I'm not sure it'd upset its nanny aids? 4-motion however I believe is a bit more sensitive.

I don't think this car is for 'go' though  :happy2:

I thought it was ok, and just R32's you have to be carefull as mismatched diameter can wind the diffs..

I personally think 19" wheels are way too big for the MK5.

Im defo going 19's personally on static

but bud you got the comfort of buttons, and If im not mistaken a 19" wheel tucked in your arch will look awesome

^^^^ those 20" just look plain daft. 19" always look good IMO, if your car is lowered (even just 20mm) they seem to fill the arch perfectly all the way round although not a consideration for Al by the look of his slammed beauty. Very nice indeed sir!!

....It certainly is personal preference but with my designer's hat on, 20's look grossly oversize for the Mk5 body.

I really like staggered 18s, especially CHs. think they look immense!

It all depends on the style when it comes to wheel sizes. Dished wheels will always look smaller than a mono block style wheel. For CHs I'd go 19's. The black mk5 on the multi spokes looks lovely!

What are the correct offsets to use if using 19 inch BBS CH reps anyone?

Presume these are 19 x 8.5
