Title: Is it safe to drive car after fitting S3 Injectors without remap
Post by: Sammy on May 18, 2012, 12:22:40 am
I have the S3 injectors on atm and booked in for remap by r tech 4 weeks later, What I want to know is anything being damaged or is there risks if the car is driven for the time being? I really need my car 7 days a week so this is a big issue to me

Technically you can drive it but keep the engine off boost as much as you can...

What are the dangers of driving with boost wtho map anyone know? I cant see much issue other then overfuelling? Can pistons or anything else get blown? I do have a 4 week wait whch is very long so need to know before my engine or something blows up!

Without the correct mapping you will over boost and more than likely end up in limp mode.

Yeah i do go in to limp mode every now and then when flooring it to redline but then if i switch off the engine and start it again it goes back to normal, What components of the engine are at risk when overboosting or overfuelling?

Too much boost can bend your rods.

....Tut tut tut, that's not clever!

Who did the conversion? They should have done the appropriate remap at the same time or at the very least have warned you to take it very easy meantime. You should be patient and granny it or it could cost you a lot more.

My engine is AXX james why?

The conversion was done at a local garage to me and they dont do maps at all but did not give any driving advice either but did ask if I am going to get it mapped, Gna have to really have a boring gt for the next few weeks argh!

Eye on weak cam while not mapped or do you mean the AXX engine as overall having weak cams?

they just have weak cams in general

The early AXX had the 'A' version of the inlet cam which had a soft fuel pump lobe.  My understanding was that all the cars fitted with the 'A' cam had them swapped out for the 'B' version.

on the basic rail pressure they flow around 13-16% more which the ecu fuel trims should take care off until remapped with the S3 injector setting.  To see if your in a safe window you will need to check your long term fuel trims on blocks 032 to make sure its with  in range.
