Title: Bonnet catch
Post by: justsean on May 25, 2012, 10:50:00 am
My bonnet catch looks pretty rusty/dodgy, never really thought much of it but the other day when checking oil etc I couldnt get it to lock again it had jammed on 'popped' and wouldnt lock down again...eventually had to pull our a screw driver and push down the lock to 'reset' it and it clicked down. Quote from VW to fix the lock was £112...bit obscene for something that doesnt make it go any faster! does anyone know of a cheaper way of getting it replaced? VW parts website somewhere and DIY job maybe?

Cheers
Sean

could you pick one up from a scrappy or a breakers yard from ebay and switch them over yourself? can't imagine its too hard

had the same issue on my old GT FSI.

just buy the unit from VW it will come with the tensioner pully part and replace the whole thing. no more than 20 mins to fit yourself  :happy2:

Had this on mine a few weeks ago.  10 mins with a brush, rag and some 3in1 oil sorted it!

£25 for a new lock mec from VW and very easy to fit, wouldn't get one from a scrap yard as you don't know how long it will last.

Regular use of 3 in1oil & a tin of spray grease does the job.
