Do I buy Y or Z rated tyres??
When I bought her she had conti sport contact 2's Y rating at the rear & conti sport contact 3's Z rating at the front.
I only really need 2 at the rear, so what should I plump for??

Doesnt matter unless your gonna do 150MPH+ :signLOL:

In that case youve answered your own question.
Z 150

Y 186

Why does Z rating mean 150+ and Y up to 186???
150+ could mean good for 10000mph.

If its stage 2+ and your planning on maxing it on a german autobahn then you will likely need the Y rated tyres :happy2:

So the bottom line is that Y rating are better for speed than Z rating???
-
Affirmative
-
Assuming 7k rpm in top x 27 mph/1000 rpm = 189 mph in theory.
I don't want to be a passenger if that's alright. :scared:
-
^^^^^ wow!
Has anyone actuallymeasured the top speed of a stage 2+ s3. at that sort of speed it must be terrifying :scared:
-
:signLOL: I haven't done it yet, but I'm hoping to attend the next 30-130 day where you can reach your terminal speed.
If Y rating is the highest and only good for 186 mph what do the 200+ super cars use???
:popcornsoda:
-
Special tyres :happy2:
-
I reckon as Jim @ JKM only made 163 in his K04'd TSI Octy you should be fine.

You'll struggle to break 160-165 on a 30-130 day at Marham!
-
My mates S2+ S3 made 158mph at this years 30-130mph.. This was the same result for 2 S2+ S3's the year before..

Did he say he could have got more?
Was it DSG?
158 still requires Y rating then

w's will do. S3 stage 2 plus will max out at about 160mph gps verified. Will read about 175mph on the speedo
-
Really  My iddy piddy K03s Octavia maxed out at 168mph gps verified on the autobahn at Stage 2+. Unless the Octy drag coefficient is good for 8mph then I would expect the S3 to go quicker.
-
that is good, ive found the k04's to generally run out of steam at around 165mph indicated, get over 170mph indicated but that requires keeping your foot on the loud peddle for longer than I would want to.

K03 at 168mph

As i see you disbelieve
Here is a clip of it doing 162mph which iirc was at Stage 1. Watch from 2:10

Firstly I can't open that YouTube clip??? Maybe it's my IPad??
I'm not disputing the speed, what I am surprised by is poverty telling me I will only get 165mph and u got 168mph out of a K03, does that make sense??
:popcornsoda:
-
Ahh yes it won't play on mobile devices due to copyright because it has a daft punk song on it.
That was my point too. I was surprised at him saying a Stg2+ S3 would max out at 160mph.
If that is the case then i can only guess that the Octy drag coefficient is better. But i wouldn't have thought it equated to 8mph.
-
Yes, but was the Octy K04???
If not, how does a K03 have more puff???
:popcornsoda:
-
No the Octy was K03.
I think Poverty must have got his figures wrong somehow.
-
Mmmmm, so what do u reckon I'd get flat out??? :happy2:
-
I don't know for sure. I would say, given enough road, 170mph. I got to 162 fairly quickly (in the space of about 2.5 miles) but to eek out the further 6mph took around another 4-5 miles to achieve. But that was absolute max I would ever get without going to a bigger turbo. Or down a fcuk off steep hill
Iirc Hurdy had more than 160mph in his Golf ED30 at stage 2+
The factor that you would have to contend with is the drag. Although you would get to the top speed far quicker than the Octy I don't think you would get much more out of it unless you started putting a hoooge turbo on it.

It might be because your runways longer. Generally Ive found once I get the k04's to around 170mph indicated the car doesnt really speed up that much anymore and I leave it at that! Could be the skoda is more aerodynamic than the s3/cupra/golfR and perhaps wind was against me on my days.
Maybe the k04 suffers from worse EGT's and alot of effort it used into controlling the EGTs at continued WOT runs. Who knows, lets see what other k04 people have managed!

A quick search on ooootoob found this Revo Stg 2+ S3 doing an indicated 285kmh (178mph)
The speedo generally won't be that far out. My Octy at an indicated 160mph was registering 154mph on GPS so i would imagine that S3 is registering around the 170mph mark on GPS. The thing to note here though is how quick it gets there it's less than 90 secs.
-
Very interesting, I just assumed that the K04 would have a higher top end than a K03, not just get there quicker :chicken:
-
Top end is down to gearing. The size of the turbo just determines how close you can get to it :happy2:

The two s3's at 30-130 where reading out by about 15mph. Interesting the faster the car went on the speedo, the more it was out on the v-box. My TTRS at indicated 180mph read 170mph on the vbox.
-
Right well I've just been shown a picture of a APR k04 doing 180 indicated ok the autobahn and the driver says it had more in it!
I think marham must have just had alot of wind against us that day.
-
Comparing a top speed run on the Autobahn to the Vmax speed reached at Marham on the 30-130 day is like comparing apples with marsh-mellows.. :stupid:
An autobahn run can go on for as long as the engine holds out (traffic dependent) or until a long enough down hill stretch is found. Marham's runway is 1.6 miles long and that includes the braking area AND a good 1/4 mile is missed when entering the runway/starting area at 30mph. I would say the actual running area before braking is just over a mile. Now compare that with Carl's 4 mile run on the autobahn on a different day in different conditions and tell me they are even in the same category..?

Was it DSG?
It's was a manual mate and without the weather cutting the day short I dare say another 1-2 mph would of been possible with a few more brave pills, but that would be about it..
-
The question asked was what the top speed was though for a S3 at Stg2+ Not top speed at Marham or any other track/circuit/runway. I'm not disputing what can be achieved at Marham. I was merely pointing out that a Stg 2+ S3 could go faster than 160mph.
This is what I was answering.

My stage 1 ed30 managed an indicated 174mph on the autobahn so I'd imagine a stage 2+ S3 should achieve at least that depending on how high the final drive ratio will let you go?

That wasn't directly aimed at you Carl, I just mentioned your run as people seem to be making a comparison with that and Marham results, when in fact they couldn't be more different..

Looking at his rev counter he was in the redline.
I don't think the DSG box would allow that (as it will change automatically in the lower gears), but then again, not sure what it would allow in top gear as I've never taken it there :signLOL:
-
He may have a S-Tronic/DSG map (more than likely with it redlining)

Unfortunately there is no DSG map apparently for cars older than 2008

I thought it was the other way round. There is no DSG map for my 2011 car, well Shark apparently can but I haven't heard of anyone else doing it yet. REVO/APR/GIAC all said no when I asked a few months ago.
-
Carl have you tested Vmax since fitting aero roof box? :driver:

Different car now Mike. I don't think the tarmac on UK roads could handle the downforce, grip and speed if i did
-
Carl, trust me when I say shark can't do the dsg map either if they have told you so it is misguided info as they can't. The only people who can do a full on proper dsg stage 3 remap is hap motorsports in the states, on all new models. I know this as I have been looking into it for months and have to send them my mechatronics unit over for them to do this, which is being done as we speak. Hope this helps. :happy2:

Unitronic in the states?

I didn't think they could to be honest but that came from the owner, Ben and he responded to my question in a public forum.
Let me know how you get on please :happy2:
-
No worries I will do. Mike obviously mine is dsg, however it's all the same technology used so I think of they can do my dsg they can do unitronic aswell pal. :happy2:

I thought unitronic were the company who are going to map Sy's Fabia dsg to get around torque limiting problem
I may have just made a boob of myself though
