yesterday I went for a drive in the sun into the countryside, and upon hearing the 'bing' and "refuel now!" on the display, I looked for the nearest petrol station...
20 miles later, I'm desperate and find an old Thames garage, with nothing but 95 RON. 20 quid's worth in the tank and off I go.
Around 10 or so miles later, I begin to hear a metallic rattling sound upon moderate acceleration, for around 1 or 2 seconds each time I apply the throttle :scared: performance is the same or there abouts, but I've been taking it easy since then and will fill up with the usual tesco 99 later on today, but would anyone agree that this is the sound of knocking/pinking?
GTI is on stage 1 with cat back & twintake

pinging/detting is a sound of like marbles in a tin can moving about.
Fill up some 99 and see if the noise goes away :happy2:

I suspect most folk with a stage 1 map will have their timing set for 98 or 99 RON petrol so putting in 95 RON fuel may lead to the ecu not being able to pull back enough timing to maintain optimum CFs leading to pinking.
-
so say you remap on 95 ron, then later add 99 ron what difference would that make?
-
Not much unless the map is adjusted to suit it.
-
i.e more timing can be pushed with 99 ron.
