Hello guys
Was bored a few days ago and bought Jeremy Clarksons latest book called: Dont Stop Me Now
Basically its a compilation of the articles he writes for the Guardian. Obviously its the best ones only and some of them truly are epic.
The 3rd last review is that of the .:R32. What a fabulous read. I shall quote:
"Its every car you could ever reasonably need. Fast, Well made, practical, surprisingly economical and above all discreet. Nobody's ever going to mistake you for a footballer thats for sure"
And the nicest quote:
"We dont know what the future holds, so we cant plan for it. We only know whats in the here and now, and this Golf R32 is as good as it gets. Which is why Im giving it the rare accolade of a Sunday Times 5 star rating".
Thats some nice writing coming from a man who hunts foxes. I also want to mention the article is the only article out of about 25 to receive the 5 star rating from him in this book.
Its interesting that he didnt include the GTi in this book. As in almost every article he compares the cars (Be it a Maserati, Ford, Ferrari or Lambo) to the MK5 GTi.
Just thought I would share this with you guys especially since I saw my 3rd ever R32 yesterday, my first MK6 a week ago and my first blood red scirocco today.

Sometimes us Yorkshire people mix up our R's for G's and 3's for T's and 2's for I's :signLOL:

Me too VC
We still have the Topgear test for the MK5 GTi saved on our PVR and show it to people when they make obscene comments towards the car.
The book ventures through 2005 and 2006. I really did expect an article about the GTi to appear which is one of the main reasons I bought it.

And what do you confuse the ED30 part with? :signLOL:

Oddly he says on top gear he would rather have a GTI. Im presuming he threw out things like price and fuel consumption (like most reviewers) and commented on the car for what it is

Thats what I like about Jeremy Clarkson is he speaks his mind.
Often he will start an article completely positive going on about much he loves the car. But then tell you its sh*t right at the end and instead of a diesel 535 BMW you should buy a Passat and die slowly.
He doesnt care about fuel economy etc etc. To him its all about the drive and thats why we happily ordered our GTI without even test driving it. We love the GTI.
We also read revies on the 1.8 litre Corsa Bakkie we have and bought it without a test drive and its utter rubbish. If it was Jeremy was testing it he would have told you about the luxury, high end sound system and features but finish off by telling you to buy the 1.4 litre and save your money.

Wonder what he will make of the new RS if he thought the ST was an 'ASBO'
It looks like a lairy scouse bird on E to me.
Chucked together with spare parts on the WRC workshop floor. Performance wise im sure it will be good though.

think he likes the st and rs because he bought himself a focus a little while ago and his wife got an aston! lucky woman/ stupid man! i love his articles i read them on the times website every sunday :happy2:

^^Didnt realise he had one. I would expect it to be his daily commuter car, wouldnt like to be racking up the miles on the Aston...or the Lambo Spyder if he still has that, wonder what else is in his garage (Besides ladders and paint funny people).
He is a funny guy though I can connect with his humour.
Oddly Rightly so, he says on top gear he would rather have a GTI.
Fixed that for you Jules :innocent:

Has he ever reviewed the ED30?

Whilst I'm a BIG Clarkson fan, I've now read all of his books, and I find him entertaining, but highly inconsistent in his opinions. He often contradicts himself too.
However, HE knows this and therefore doesn't take himself too seriously - I certainly wouldn't buy a car based on what he says as gospel (no offence to anybody who does - each to the own!)
But he is what he is - an opinionated entertainer.......that is revered by his (many) fans :)
