Title: Power cut at 4000rpm
Post by: Dan.b on June 02, 2012, 07:24:04 pm
Hi all,

Just got my mk5 GTi and have a power issue.

If I floor it in 1st or 2nd it splutters at 4000rpm, the rev counter goes dead, EML and EPC light come on. If I then slow down and shift before 4000rpm it seems fine.

Scanned it for fault and found 1 pending fault p0321.

Would I be right in saying the engine speed sensor (G28) could be at fault?

Anyone experienced/ fixed this fault before?

Had your coil packs replaced under warranty?

Is your car modified?

Did the error come back after being cleared?

Mines a 2007 and according to VW they dont need doing?

Fault code hasn't come back yet but car still does it.

It runs fine aslong as I don't hold 1st and 2nd Upto 4k + revs

Car is fully standard. 42k miles.

Full service inc plugs, cambelt and water pump at 38k.

Google is saying G28 sensor which is the  Engine speed/cam sensor.

Just wondered if that will cure it.

Did they actually change plugs though, Breeze VW were supposed to have changed mine, but a month later I was having a bad missfire as soon as it came on boost, and that was the plugs...

Need to scan it... though plugs won;t show as a fault...

I don't think it's plugs. Its not really a misfire. More like a power cuts both mechanical and electrical lol.

I think il change the G28 if I can find out where it is!

Just been out in it again. The fault happens in any gear at exactly 4000 rpm.

It gets to 4000 rpm then the power cuts, rev counter drops so I shift up and the power is back until 4000 rpm again.

Atleast in saving petrol I suppose lol.

Just done a 40 mile trip and fault has gone!

Will have to keep my eye on it.

Fault is happening again intermittently so I will be plugging it in again tomorrow.

Kind of hoping it comes up with G28 sensor as it should be a simple fix!

Problem solved with new crank sensor.
