Title: Car advert - would you be suspicious?
Post by: Degudodger on June 02, 2012, 07:39:57 pm
Guys,

So after nearly two years of owning the Jetta i have decided a change of car is on the cards. Nothing wrong with the Jetta just that i fancy a change. As much as i would like a GTI my daily commute is circa 80 miles means Diesel and German.

Spent the past couple of days mooching round Autotrader and found a 2007 Golf GT TDI 2.0 within my budget and after talking to the seller it seems to be a genuine car but i have my suspicions it might be clocked. The advert states the car has 115k miles on the clock but when i did a mileage check it states the last recorded mileage was in Jan 2012 at 115,854. So if the car is genuine what has it been doing for the past five months!

Advert

Should i be suspicious?  :scared:

Just check mot certificate, service history etc, can't see point in clocking a car and putting to 115k :signLOL:

Sure theres a genuine reason. It's already done 115k so no point in knocking off 5k - 10k or so, he/she wouldn't really be making any extra money from the sale.

personally if in doubt walk away.

You will always have a voice in the back of your head that it could have been clocked

3dr model, similar money, with highline, mfsw, 95k. good clean car.

The advert states its a dealer, maybe he just hasn't managed to shift it for the last 5 months?.

Completely agree. The seller has yet to reply to any of my mails and when i phoned him earlier this afternoon the first thing he said was "Ah yes, the guy who wants the moon on a stick" kind of says it all really!

Pretty much it, just couldn't be bothered to argue with him so called him a jackass and put the phone down on him.

The search for a sub £6k GT Tdi Golf with less than 100k on the clock continues........

You're effing kidding me. Call me untrusting but to me that's a sign that he knows he can't pull the wool over your eyes so he's trying to get you to stop wasting his time.

Leave it mate, there's loads out there

The car will sell but to somebody who hasn't done their research.

I am in no hurry to get one so will just wait for the right car to come along :)
