Cool, but that's about it! :happy2:
If it was a concourse, minty fresh ED30 with only a couple of hundred miles on the clock and build no. 1 then that would be something!!
-
+1. If it's in mint condition and low mileage, it would have been worth a lot more.
-
Surely that would have been the press car at the time which could have been ragged to bits by various journalists and others.
-
Is this not the car used by fifth Gear, where Tiff nearly killed it!!
-
Nope that was OY56 OXC not OXB :signLOL:
-
^^^^ forgot about that 5th Gear item.
Just had another look at it. Needed some modding that one!! More time sideways than straight line.
Wonder if whoever bought that one knows it was the tester for all the journalists to throw about!!
-
It appeared in Volkswagen driver feature mag this car... So if it's been a press car. It's been ragged.

Sounds a bit iffy to me?
Are they are trying to make out that there is a different set of 1500 ed30's in each European country? :stupid:
"This vehicle is no 0001 of UK models (with VW letter of authenticity) and not necessarily the first off the production line for worldwide Edition 30 production."
Worldwide???
I was under the impression that they were only sold in Europe, and there were 1500 (well 2500ish) made in total.
When I questioned a guy at VW HQ, about my build number being the lowest on the forum, he told me that the first 5 were German registered. (not sure how true it actually is)
So that would just leave Number 006.
Another thing I remember, is that a guy on eBay was selling ed30 plaques with build number 001. He had about 20 of em!!! :stupid:
Anyone else share my theory?
-
I thought VW just sent the plaqes out in the post & they were nothing to do with the build numbers off the production line?.

Afraid not Gene. They are def build numbers. Sometimes they seem to differ with registration plates but this is only due to date of registration.
-
Surley the point is at the time this thing was new who knew this was 0001 as the plaques hadn't even been thought about until we started screaming at VW!! :stupid:
-
It was used for the Car magazine road test too:-

Im surprised at it being a press car and it not being bejeweled with Options....
Looks like a bog basic one to me
-
.
Either way, the sellers are just trying to big-up the provenance to gain a higher price or get it sold. Us lot here know quite a bit about the true history of this car and, as Greeners rightly points out, the plate fiasco. Many folks out there probably won't know the history behind the plates and they'll believe that the car is more special than it is. Estate agents, auctioneers, car salesmen, they're all the same!
-

oi, were not all bad people, yes we might sell you over priced car polish and what not but not all of us need shooting :P

....Yeah, I know. But those occupations generally carry a bad name because of the bad ones. :happy2:

I agree with Robin,my wife is an Estate Agent and she,s orrible... :rolleye:
-
I would say yes it's had a hard life but equally if VW treat their press cars like what we treat ours they are more than well maintained.
-
.
And isn't the GTI designed to be driven quite hard? The key is not to thrash from cold and to maintain properly.
