Title: RNS in Mk6 Problem
Post by: Lyons on June 08, 2012, 12:07:53 pm
A mate fitted an RNS to his GTD and the volume controls on the mfsw aren't working, all the rest are however.

He hasn't got nav activated in VCDS yet, but surely the volume controls shouldn't be affected by that?

Any reason why they aren't working that we've overlooked?

I had this issue in mine. I solved it by updating the firmware on the RNS but Becareful u don't brick the unit!

i'm pretty sure you have to activate 'BAP' protocol or something like that because of the new CAN interface for the steering controls in the mk6...

It sounds like its not coded in properly, it needs the BAP and short press in the nav activating

Cheers for the replies, but it's randomly started working!  Still needs coded for the nav though.

He also had Bluetooth fitted prior to the RNS, but since adding it the screen and power has flicked between on and off for random periods of time. I got him to remove the Bluetooth loom and the RNS has stopped going off, so at least it's 100%. It sounds like there's a dodgy connection or 2 in the loom. Could this be possible? Would it be safer just getting another from Kufatec?

Sounds like a loom failure if the RNS works fine without the bluetooth

What kit is it?

I can't remember. It's a VW module.

I assume Kufatec are the only ones that make looms?

Unless you are using the loom that came with it, it'll be a kufatec loom most likely.

Complete nightmare!!

Loom removed and the RNS is 100% one day, then flicks on off and the mfsw doesn't work the next!

He still hasn't got BAP activated yet. Does this sound like that could be the answer?!

Will that make sense to someone that's familiar with VAGcom?! I've another mate that does a fair bit, but I don't think he's coded an RNS.

with vag com

go to Navigation (37) or Radio (56) > Coding > Long Coding > using the down arrow scroll through till you see BAP and Shortpress and tick the boxes.

Reboot the RNS by pressing  < > and i or star button

Just to follow on, the unit has been sitting in the cupboard for the last couple of months.

All the above have been tried, but it's still not playing ball. The bluetooth has been removed and the RCD310 put back in to try and it works 100%, but the RNS is still not behaving and the screen/unit flickers on/off every so often.

Would it be worth updating the firmware as a final shot, or if there is something dodgy with the unit is there a greater chance of bricking it?

He intends to sell it as faulty at a loss as the owner won't give him the money back, but I don't know whether its worth taking a gamble with the firmware or selling as is.
