Title: New to the forum from East Riding
Post by: Dewdrop on May 22, 2009, 05:24:12 pm
Hello - I'm new to this forum,

I found it while looking for Mk5 Golf Gti information on Pistonheads - a site I use regularly.

I'm selling my 2002 330D sport to my brother in law (4.5k) and I've got 11k to spend on a car and for me it has to be the MK5 Golf Gti. I've got a pretty good idea of the specification I want - most of which is borne from practicality and neccessity.

So this is what I'm looking for:

Mk5 Gti, 5 door, DSG with paddles, 18 Monzas, car has done no more than 40k (preferably or around there) as we do 20k miles a year.

I guess like most people I'm looking for a decent spec - particularly leather interior.

Are my aspirations realistic for 11k - or do I need to look at higher mileage etc?

I began looking several months ago when there seemed more choice, but its only last week I've got the money together and now there doesn't seem to be many in my price range lol - is there anywhere I can look apart from Autotrader and Pistonheads?

Thanks for reading!  :happy2:

Welcome to the site!  :happy2:

There seems to be a few guys looking for similar cars ATM. Good luck with the search, should be more available at around that price as people take delivery of their new MK6's!

Thanks for the nice welcome?

Having looked at my ideal golf are my aspirations realistic for 11k - or do I need to look at higher mileage etc?

Money is burning a hole in my pocket and desperate to get a GTI!

Well I'm still looking but there isn't a huge choice with my budget (11k) and the spec I want, 5 dr/dsg/below 50k miles and decent spec.

I'm currently viewing one on Autotrader (private sale) but description doesn't match the car... ie it says 18" monzas, mult funciton steering wheel and front armrest yet you can see it clearly has none of these from the photos - I've emailed the seller asking for clarification - it seems they've just copied the description from another advert and put it in theres but changed a few bits - for example it says leather (which it has) and then cloth trim??

Theres also a C/W white one on there I like for - which has everything I want but has no options except an ipod connection - and asking for £11,450 - I need to decide how important the options are - coming from a well specced 330D Sport I guess I've been spoilt.

Hang on for the one you want, as you'll only kick yourself for getting one with a very limited spec fitted.

Good luck with your search.. :happy2:

I've found what looks like a decent car, the only thing it doesn't have is paddle shift.

How important to the driving experience is this?

Can it be retro fitted and if so how much and is it a big job? Where would be able to fit it?

Thanks.
