Interesting that you can pick up a well specced S3 hatch or Sportback for less than the cheapest Golf R.

Chris.

Not fussed about the nav thing but the cloth does look pretty naff in the R.

RNS Im not fussed about as I can pull it out my GTI and retro fit but leather would be something I'd want

Seen this car when looking at a MK6 GTi. Has 4 new tyres but previous owner put 4 Kuhmo's on which is a bit cheap skate if you ask me. Can never understand why people buy nice cars and cut corners come servicing / upkeep time. I know there not a bad tyre but why wouldn't you pay the extra??

Interesting I'm looking at these as well.  I'll be very interested in about three years time when they should have dropped nicely (and the piggy bank has filled up nicely)....Though an RS3 tempts me as does a 135i.....decisions decisions.....

sorry guys I've found my match this WILL be my next motor sorry but driven audi's too sterile for me.....i love my VW but fancy a change BMW's just have something about them

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/283273/new_bmw_m135i_hot_hatchback.html

just imagine what a little tweaking could do to  this motor.....

3 y/o Golf R should retain 51% of initial value (31K) after 3 years, my brother is in the industry and tells me these things (we only tend to talk about cars and Golf )

I think around January these will be £20k. Plenty of time to save, and a nice platform for APR stage 3+

There is a hybrid KO4 making over 400 now, I was in a 415BHP MRC tuned stage 1 DSG RS3 the other day and thats fast enough.

Quite why you'd want more than that in one of these cars is beyond me...

400BHP Golf R   nyomm

lol in fwd i agree there is a limit to what is sensible. a 500bhp golf r would be awsome

Would it be 10k more awesome than a 400 BHP one.

Expect a reliable 400BHP KO4 S3 very soon

Expect a reliable 500BHP 2.5TFSi RS3 yesterday

The stage 1 RS3 was bloody impressive, nothing OEM this side of a muircielago would keep with it, went around corners too.

So back on topic

I'd rather have a 23k plus 4k tuning budget to get to 400BHP than a 23k car and a £10k spend to get to 500 BHP.

In addition the 400 BHP could be done pretty much in an afternoon

agreed, i could never spend £10k on my car in one go however when i stripped and sold parts for my last car i ended up with £11k for the car + £7500 for the mods  i was sure i had spent £5k max on tuning  :stupid:

btw you had chance to read my pm re: discs
