So I could get tyre off split them myself and refurb the damaged lip and put it back together?
Or is it a specialist job with this sort of thing, proper balancing machines and such?

i'd probably still get them rebalanced once the tyre is back on and they're refurbished tho :smiley:
in fact you may not actually need to take the tyre off at all. just remove the face with the tyre in situ, polish the lip and reassemble. mask up the tyre for lacquer ofc, but otherwise i don't see any reason why the tyre needs to come off.
